  1. Support Azure.Identity on Local cluster

I would like Service Fabric local cluster to support Azure.Identity such that I can start an application on my local cluster and use my user credentials from Visual Studio, Azure CLI, etc.

Currently, I am getting errors like the following, only when running applications in my local Service Fabric cluster:

'RunAsync' reported Warning for property 'RunAsyncUnhandledException'.
Azure.Identity.AuthenticationFailedException: SharedTokenCacheCredential authentication failed: Access to the path 'C:\Users\USERNAME\source\repos\application\subdir.IdentityService' is denied.

'RunAsync' reported Warning for property 'RunAsyncUnhandledException'.
Azure.Identity.AuthenticationFailedException: Azure CLI authentication failed due to an unknown error
PermissionError: [WinError 5] Access is denied: 'C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\.azure'

'RunAsync' reported Warning for property 'RunAsyncUnhandledException'.
    Azure.Identity.CredentialUnavailableException: DefaultAzureCredential failed to…

  2. Provide architectural and other technical guidance for TCP/IP RPC based programming

We have several legacy TCP/IP RPC, Client/Server programs that we must port to Azure Service Fabric; however, support and guidance when migrating TCP/IP program to SF Cluster are not supported. We are not told we can't do it, but when it gets down to actual development and testing support, it turns out that quite a bit of design work and coding is necessary to port an RPC program to SF. One of the primary issues is when your RPC server generates IP port assignments at runtime; this type of design does not work very well in SF as each listener…

  5. Increase deployment speed when doing ARM deployments

We change our Service Fabric resources very frequently. The loadbalancer resource takes around 45 minutes to finish without actual changes.

This is not acceptable in a fast paced environment.

  7. Is there a way to still use client certificate to auth after add Azure AD in security session?

Hey there, we just add Azure AD but we still like to access by client certification sometimes, is there a way we can do that? or we need to delete AAD from sf cluster each time?

  8. Would like to view times in UTC

All of our backend telemetry is in UTC time. Rendering events in SFX using local time actively hampers investigation, as developer have difficulty converting between the timezones on the fly, and introduces another vector for user error in performing such arithmetic.

  9. Service fabric installation documentation not properly updated

Guys, you should say in the installation guide for 18.04 (Bionic Beaver) You MUST run the manual steps... otherwise is misleading when you mention run the script to install service fabric. If you take a look at the script it only works with xenial...

    Have a nice day

  10. Secured Cluster correct certificate url from keyvault

When creating a secured cluster and provisioning the scale sets, one has to reference the certificate url in the following format: https://<vaultEndpoint>/secrets/<secretName>/<secretVersion> Certificates are typically not stored as secrets and the reference should be able to handle a certificate reference instead of a secret reference:
    https://<vaultEndpoint>/certificates/<certName>/<certVersion>

  11. In Service Fabric Explorer, sort all items logically, especially node names.

In Service Fabric Explorer, sort all items logically, especially node names. For example, nt02 should appear in a list before nt010.

  13. Warn when certificates are about to expire

We have had two total cluster collapses because of expired certificates. Once with node certs and once with reverse proxy certs. The only feasable way of recovery was a total cluster rebuild. I think Microsoft should have provided a warning email about certificates that are about to expire, and also make sure they are automatically renewed instead of just letting the cluster collapse. And in the event when the cluster has collapsed because of a certificate problem, there should have been a simple tool to recover the cluster with a new certificate. Now this process is extremely complex and error…

  14. Allow KeyVault certificate identifier in ClusterConnectionParameters

Updating the SF cluster certificates is quite some pain for our company as most often we need to make a microservices' deployment just to update the ServerCertThumbprint in the ...\PublishProfiles...xml files and every time to manually go through the dance of updating the certificates on the VMs. And we run several SF clusters. It'd be nice to:

    1. only update the certificate in KeyVault, yet maintain the same KV identifier in ClusterConnectionParameters and within the VMs.

    2. for bonus points, to have the certificate update automatically in KV, N days before expiration.

  15. Allow viewing of the settings

Our micro services in Service Fabric use appsettings.json for a couple of settings but nowere in service fabric explorer can we view the content of those settings. I believe this would be very usefull.

  16. Create a system managed identity for SF App w/o deploying code

Currently the ARM template used to assign a managed identity uses a Version object that requires an sfpkg. Therefore, the code is loaded and running immediately. Further, the permissions on the key vault cannot be added until the SF application exists. The code I am deploying reads its secrets on service start-up. So the permissions have not yet been granted, and nothing functions correctly. I see two possible ways forward: 1) Perform this deployment without requiring code. 2) Change New-AzureRmServiceFabricCluster so that is can take a ParameterObject argument. If it took its Parameters as an object instead of only via…

  17. Please make this work on Visual Studio Online

I'm trying out the new Visual Studio Online ide, and would love to test out my service fabric services there!

When I run SetupServiceFabric.sh, it gives me an error.

  18. Disallow cluster certificates as client certificates

Cluster certificates have two abilities - node-node communication, but also client-node communication.

It is hard for a cluster owner to see the ramifications of using the cluster cert as a client certificate. Doing such should be disabled by default to follow "secure by default" configuration and then allow it if someone really needs it.

A larrge amount of infrastructure is deployed via Docker containers. It would be helpful to deploy IoTEdge via Docker.
