Logic Apps

Logic Apps allow developers to design workflows that articulate intent via a trigger and series of steps, each invoking an App Service API app whilst securely taking care of authentication and best practices like durable execution.
If you have any feedback or ideas on Azure Logic Apps we’d love to hear it.

  1. Provide management overview of the runtime endpoints

Now it is extremely difficult to see the various "triggers" and to stop/start them. With BizTalk, we have receive locations that we can all see in one view and we can stop/start them. (the same thing for send ports). Now all of that is encapsulated in the logic app and it would really be a good thing to provide more "management views". As an example, we have customers with more than 1000 receive endpoints. I want to get them in an easy to handle and search overview.

  2. Improve monitoring of outputs

For monitoring, outputs are preferred, compared to tracked properties, as they reside on the workflow run level itself. However, they are only tracked in case a Logic App succeeds. This feature request is to improve the monitoring experience of outputs. Two steps are proposed:

    >> Ensure that outputs are also monitored in case a workflow runs does not complete successfully.
    >> Provide OMS integration for outputs and foresee configuration option to only monitor runs and no actions (will save a lot of unneeded records in OMS).

  4. Improve resubmit from an operational perspective

The resubmit feature is very powerful from a runtime perspective, but it can be improved from an operational point of view. It would be nice to have visibility on the resubmit, so that you know as an operator that specific failed workflows can be ignored, because they were resubmitted already. This can be achieved by adding an additional workflow status: Resubmitted. Another alternative solution is allowing an operator to query for failed Logic App run that were not resubmitted yet.

  5. Supporting AI for Logic Apps?

We use Application Insights(AI) for telemetry logging and reporting purposes. Is there a plan for supporting AI for Logic Apps?

  6. Lock VS created Logic App

Now we can create a Logic App in Visual Studio, we need to lock down the deployed logic app so that it can only be changed from VS and not in the azure portal.

Example... I create a logic app in VS. I deploy via our ALM processes. Later, someone edits the logic app in the Azure Portal. Now source control is out of sync with the logic app = confusion.

  7. Logic App Runs - Multi select

The Resubmit and Cancel Run buttons on Logic app runs are great options. It will be really useful to have the ability to select multiple logic app runs to either resubmit or cancel, instead of doing it one by one.

  8. Foresee every Logic App with a Service Window

A service window that easily allows you to schedule the active time of your Logic App, so it gets automatically enabled/disabled. Provide same user experience as in Azure Scheduler or the CRON notation used in WebJobs, both are very flexible.

  9. Reset trigger state when a logic app is enabled

I just found out that logic apps trigger state is maintained when the logic app is disabled. This is a great feature, but usually one of the reasons to disable the logic app is to avoid events that are triggered during that period.

Today, the workaround to circumvent this is to manually make changes in the trigger and save the logic app again. This will reset the state.

What I suggest is that when you enable the logic app, the environment ask if you want to reset the state. This would put the control in the hands of the operational…

  10. Turn off payload tracking in run history

A feature in the portal to turn off payload tracking in the run history so that when a monitoring person is looking at the runs they are not able to look at the data flowing.

  11. Can we search the LogicApp run instance using TRACKING ID?

Good see the more search options in LogicApp run history like run identifier etc.
It would be good if we can search the LogicApp run instance using TRACKING ID of action.

  12. Capbility to run LogicApp in verbose mode

When user opens the LogicApps designer in the portal, there is a "Run" button to execute the workflow. There could be another useful option to "Run in verbose mode". When user clicks this option, separate OUTPUT window would launch in a new blade. During this mode, runtime information could be captured in the output window along with the time stamps and other useful micro-details. Also, user can write custom debug traces to capture various runtime variables.

[Argument] : Although, this can be achieved using Trigger History and Run history.
[Counter-Argument] : From the developer point of view, during development phase,…

  13. for monitoring purposes, for endpoints that are triggered (not scheduled), allow to specify an expected run profile to flag errors

for monitoring purposes, for endpoints that are triggered (not scheduled), allow to specify an expected run profile to flag errors.

For example, allow to specify that the SyncProfilePicture endpoint is expected to run once a day. If it hasn`t been triggered log an error so we can act.

  14. Logic App charts pinned to Dashboard missing Logic App name

If you pin a chart (eg. Runs/Throttled Events in last 3 hours) to the dashboard, the chart doesn't auto-refresh.

Also, the chart is missing the name of the logic app.
