  1. Allow overriding resource names using a (special) Tag

    Azure resource naming is very unwieldy. Over the course of the past few years our (or our customers) naming conventions have changed. We ended up with a messy collection of resources conforming to various naming conventions.

    Ofcourse it's problematic to change naming behaviour because it'll affect existing Azure users. Therefore I request a special tag that will override existing resource names if set.

    For example: "displayname".

    This solves our problem of not being able to rename resources while preserving existing behaviour.

  2. Hosted agents are not upto date

    Hosted VS2017 is not upto date. I have faced this multiple times that whenever I add tasks to build pipeline and run it with hosted agents, I always get errors related to the older versions of az cli and PowerShell installed. This really affects our productivity.

  3. Remove customer IPs from the AzureCloud Service tags. (Or make new tags which exclude customer IPs.)

    I don't understand why the AzureCloud service tag includes customer IPs. What possible use case is there for these tags? Limiting something to AzureCloud rather than the Internet does reduce the "width" of exposure but not the "depth" unless Azure can assure us that their customers are all a cut above! I would like to see the customer IPs removed from the AzureCloud tags. Create new tags for all of Azure if you want but such tags have no practical value for a customer! (Maybe they are useful to Azure admin, in which case hide them from customers.)

  4. Grouping resources deployed to avoid orfant resources

    When a resource is deployed, multiple resource types is often deployed together (deploying a VM deploys a storage account, disks, NIC etc).
    But when you need to administer groups with many resources and the deployment didn't tag it, this becomes a nightmare. But Azure already knows which resources that belong to each other.
    My proposal is to make a grouping function so all resources belonging together can be marked together and moved/deleted. So when you need to mark a service including its child resources, you can find and mark them easily. This would certainly easy administration of resource groups with…

  5. Being push-notified when an ARM deployment status changes

    Right now when you submit an ARM deployment, you have to regularly do an HTTP GET to pull the current status of ARM deployment. even PowerShell or AZ CLI are doing the same thing in the background. it would be nice to be able to subscribe to an event through which Azure Resource Manager pushes a notification to you when status of the deployment is changed (started to running to succeeded/failed).

  6. ability to deprovision vs provision (like how TeraForm does it)

    I want to be able to tell ARM manager to delete the resources in the arm template instead of creating them. as simple as that. Tera form already can do this. we need it natively with arm.

  7. support utcNow() as a varialbe

    the way you can use utcNow() function is limiting us. using it just as a default value for a parameter implies that somebody can override this value with an explicitly provided value. we want to use this for tagging the creation time of our resources and we want to make sure nobody can mess with the value.
    if we could simply use this in a variable definition, or call it normally as we do with other functions within the template, our problem would have been solved. the implementation could be as easy as computing it at the arm trigger time…

  8. Azure REST API to update Azure AD User's Authentication Info

    We are having our Web Application which Creates User in Azure AD using Graph API and stores its details in Database including Email and Phone. Our requirement is to update the Azure AD User's Authentication Info, that is used for Self Service Password Reset and Multi-Factor Authentication, via back end using Azure REST API.
    So we want to have an Azure REST API to update the Azure AD User's Authentication info.

  9. provide an ability to query metrics APIS by resource groups and tags

    This ability is required to restrict the response to a particular resource group or tag on a set of resources.
    This could be required when integrating Azure with an APM like Dynatrace or other tools.

    Currently, all metrics are returned irrespective of the resource group or the custom tag in the query, polluting one environment with data from the others that are hosted in the same subscription.

  10. Allow us to Stop an entire Resource Group

    I'd like to be able to stop (and start) all resources in a resource group where resources can be stopped with a single button in the portal.

    The use-case is development stuff, things I'm learning. It'd be nice to just turn it off and feel safe that I am not inadvertently consuming resources.

  11. Better error handling, reporting

    When deploying linked ARM templates, the user gets below error:
    "status": {

       "value": "Failed",

    "localizedValue": "Failed"

    },
    "subStatus": {

       "value": "InternalServerError",

    "localizedValue": "Internal Server Error (HTTP Status Code: 500)"

    },

    On further investigation, found that 2 parameters were not being substituted with values. Once those 2 parameters were addressed, the deployment went successful.

    Can we please have a more verbose error description displayed instead of plain "Internal Server Error"?

    Thank you!

  12. Cancel resource movement

    Currently, once you start moving a resource between resource groups, you cannot cancel it.
    In some cases, it takes a long time to move, and if the event described on the left occurs, it will interfere with the work, so we strongly hope to change the function so that you can cancel the movement.

  13. About resource locking when moving resources between resource groups

    Currently, when moving a resource between resource groups, the resources in the source and destination resource groups are locked.
    We strongly recommend that you change the function so that resources that are not related to the movement are not locked when moving between resource groups.

  14. Filter returned resource groups by role definitions?

    I'm trying to make a GET request to list all of the available resource groups by the authenticated user's Role Assignment; in this case, "contributor".

    I've looked at listing role assignments but I can't seem to use "contributor" as a filter when requesting a list of resource groups.

  15. Page to check ongoing interventions

    Have a page that indicates if a maintenance is ongoing on our instance.

    Today, in case of issues with one of the API's, we cannot assess if a maintenance task @ azure causes the unavailability. (Eg. on Dev tier)

    With a page (eg. per resource group) indicating ongoing maintenance on the instances components (eg. virtualisation layer) we know that we have to wait till the maintenance is finished rather than starting incident mgt our side or debugging our code.

  16. to make Custom ARM Template available in the Deployment Section of the Resource Group even if the Subscription get suspended

    As the subscription get suspended, in the deployment section of the resource group the Template gets unavailable or unresponsive without any error just the Template shows "Generating Template..." and also the redeploy option get unresponsive. All of the options are responsive like "Overview", "Input", "Output" but "Template" shows "Generating Template...". Further "Redeploy" option should work because as in Custom Template there is an option to change the Subscription but it gets Unresponse. Although the template is just a CODE a static content what it would be charging?

  18. Please fix the schemas, fighting with tooling is hard

    Hello,

    1. Schemas are outdated in Visual Studio tooling

    2. Enabling static web sites and default documents does not work

    3. Enabling connection string setting mapping to Key Vault secrets does not work, need to use appsettings instead

    4. newGuid in params does not work with schema validation VS2019

    5. reference ( , , 'Full') is not recognized by schema validator in VS2019
      in addition:

    6. Azure AD PowerShell has dependencies on PowerShell desktop, like WindowsForms... Do we need that? Can we just stick with PS Core?

    7. Consistent documentation of what supported by tool: REST, Az PowerShell, Az CLI, is nonexistent

    Can we improve a little…

  19. Trim tag names entered in the Portal UI

    Please trim the names of tag names entered in the Portal UI. We have encountered issues and policy violations because unintentional spaces were included in the tag names. These spaces are common because the required tags are copied and pasted from other sources, so it's been a common problem.

    There should be no reason not to trim the names. What customer would actually want a name of " applicationId" instead of a trimmed "applicationId" name... this feels like a no-brainer. :)

  20. [Request] Suggession on Deployment Modes in Azure

    Hi Microsoft Team,

    I really appreciate the Microsoft efforts for rapidly catching up market for Azure.
    I have little suggestion over here for Azure Dev ops CI/CD using ARM Templates.There are two options given for deployment mode. i.e "Incremental" and "Complete".

                        "Complete" Mode of deployment deletes the existing services under that Resource Group. Even though it will be useful to discard unwanted services, still it is very dangerous. 'An Err is Human.' By mistake if this option is selected in pipline then all the services will be deleted and its difficult to restore it. This leads to raising support tickets
