Rename Resource Groups
Need the ability to rename resource groups either via PowerShell or the new portal.
The Azure Resource Manager team is actively investigating the scenarios around renaming resource groups. To help us better understand the use-cases and to determine which implementations may be viable to address the problem, we would appreciate if you could fill out this 3-minute survey:
Seriously? Not all resources can be moved between resource groups! The request is a necessity when managing large Azure subscriptions. The man hours users waste managing this limitation are far greater than those required to provide us with a solution. The delay has been agonizing, and the refusal inexcusable.

So basically you asked users to do your homework for you and then ignored their answers. So where do I delete my worthless account?
Moving this from a planned update to unplanned? Boooooo
And why the heck anyone should care about these votings if most voted thing gets sacked? You should put a note somewhere, saying - please create request for new feature and vote for it, but keep in mind that for any number of votes, 99% ***** will be given to implement it.
Oh come on ...

What a disappointing response to the highest voted issue for the Resource Manager team.
Can you please give us some details as to why this is so complicated to implement? Isn't the name just stored once against the resource group itself? Surely items are linked to resource groups by GUID rather than name?
Azure: could you not build a workflow and map it to a button where AZURE creates a new resource and then moves the items from the old resource into the new resource with provided new or existing name then would delete the old resource... titling this button 'Rename Resource'?!
We would appreciate the automation from Azure's side.
Clear and disapointing! More than three thousand votes is not enough to make Azure Microsoft move.
After years … the same answer. You cant move all type of resources in a resource group. and also, it takes a long time to execute depending the number of resoruces and type when its possible.

What a great recommendation! Right up there with using CDN for custom domain + ssl instead of regular blob storage. SMH
Wow. So we waited nearly 5 years for nothing? Nice one.
not a valid alternative since there are many cases where you can't just mass move all resources and when you do stuff can break.

Lol i voted for this when I owned Nimbo. I later solid the business to Equinix and am now the CTO at 10th Magnitude. Thanks ... for the ... update. 😆

Wow, closed after 4 years, and with thousands of votes!
Surely resource groups are identified internally by something like a GUID?
At the very least, couldn't you have a 'rename' feature that behind the scenes just creates a new group, moves resources to it, then deletes the old one?

Unplanned, but not rejected, there's still hope...maybe in another 5 years we'll get some traction on this.

What about classic assets that cannot be moved? The re-creation of classic assets to current versions is not an option we would like to entertain.

Pls work on how to rename resource groups..

@Jonathan Freeland, what are you doing for 4 year ? LoL
I too am requesting that you add the ability to rename resource groups.
I understand that this is complex but why can a new attribute not be added to the Resource Group entity called Alias. Copy all the existing names to the Alias and point all Portal name UI bindings to the Alias. Again, I know I'm an outsider but is moving absolutely necessary? If so, the original design was a colossal blunder.
