Stream Analytics

Azure Stream Analytics is a fully managed real-time stream computation service hosted in Microsoft Azure, which provides highly resilient, low latency, and scalable complex event processing of streaming data. Azure Stream Analytics enables developers to easily combine streams of data with historic records or reference data to derive business insights easily and quickly.

  1. Make double quotes for string values in a where clause show as an error

    where foo = 'Bar' --works
where foo = "Bar" --does not work but does not show as an error in the editor

  2. timezone conversion function

Provide datetime conversion function on timestamp from one timezone to another. Example, IoT data generated from one location needs to be preserved in both local and corporate timezone. Similar to TSQL AT TIME ZONE.

  3. Store Geography datatype on SQL Server

Currently it is not supported to store geography to SQL Server Output. It would be create to store a Point (WGS84) to a geography column.

Furthermore: Currently the output to SQL Server table fails, if there is a geography column in the table, also if no data is projected by ASA to such column. This bug should be fixed too, because it blocks a workaround where the spatial data is stored in float columns by ASA and then converted to a Point (for geography column) by a database Trigger.

  4. There should be Boolean support between Azure Stream Analytics and the Event Hub

Currently, the Stream Analytic Job doesn't support Boolean variables as input (it converts boolean to 0/1).

According to document, after stream analytics version 1.2 support boolean data type. I'm not sure which version do you use in event hub display stream analytics.

  5. App Insights continuous export pattern works in one Stream and fails in another stream using same pattern.

App Insights continuous export pattern works in one Stream and fails in another stream using same pattern. I needed to remove the /{date}/{time} from my pattern and only use /Event as the pattern in order to make it work. I cannot figure out why there would be a difference between the two app insights instances and the two streams.

  6. Support IoTHub.* in Azure Stream Analytics Tools for Visual Studio

When authoring a query in the portal, I use the IoTHub object to get at items like IoTHub.EnqueuedTime (discussed here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/stream-analytics/stream-analytics-define-inputs#stream-data-from-iot-hub) These do not work in the ASA tools for Visual Studio.

When you use stream data from an IoT Hub, you have access to the following metadata fields in your Stream Analytics query:
    Property
    Description
    EventProcessedUtcTime
The date and time that the event was processed.
    EventEnqueuedUtcTime
The date and time that the event was received by the IoT Hub.
    PartitionId
The zero-based partition ID for the input adapter.
    IoTHub.MessageId
An ID that's used to correlate two-way communication in…

  7. Allow specifying columns when using INTO to insert into ta Sql Azure database.

    When using INTO
you cannot specify which columns to use - everything is in order. This means that any desired change to the database table becomes hard to manage with Stream Analytics.

  9. Merge Inputs/Queries/Outputs Tab

When I am writing my query, if I waant to add an input or an output I have to save my query leave the tab, go to a different tab, add it, back to the query tab...

If I forget my Inputname I have to go back to the input tab, and there is now way to copy the input name to the clipboard. Other option would be to at least list inputs and outputs somewhere on query tab...

  11. persistent memory variable

Our use case requires to declare memory variables such as an associative array and maintain the values. Values to be maintained and accessed across time windows. Such provision may require support for procedural code than SQL. We are considering Spark Streaming for this ease of use.

  12. NVL

Do we have equivalent command to NVL? I understand it can be achieved by CASE. If we have NVL, then it would be great.

  14. Output to a custom metric

Allow a scalar value to be output to a custom metric on the Stream Analytics [SA] dashboard. This gives us a really easy way to connect aggregated statistics on our data into the existing monitoring and alerting capabilities of SA.

  16. Video Analysis CCTV

Hello, It would be awesome if Azure had Video Analytics also, so you can connect a IP camera like parkinglots how many parking spaces are free etc. Would be great for parkinghouses, home security, prettymuch anything really.

This is already possible today but due to the way the backend is implemented it is not visible in the UX.
When you create a new route in IoT Hub, you need to create an endpoint to a source supported by Azure Stream Analytics such as Event Hub.
Then you can connect to this Event Hub like any other Event Hub.
I’m marking this item as “unplanned” at this time, but we will continue to monitor this item, so don’t hesitate to give more feedback or vote for it so we can reconsider it in the future.

  18. Duplicate Outputs

If i want to insert data to sql table from different query then query editor won't allow to use same output to use in different queries even though destination must be same. It will be duplication of output.

  20. Job Diagram - Retain selected chart metrics

When viewing the historic replay information in the Stream Analytics Job Diagram. It is frustrating that the chart metrics that are displayed are reset every time you change the replay date or time and click submit.

Expected outcome of this request is:
When I change the chart to only display the "Output Events" metric and I then change the replay period then then the "Output Events" are still the only metric displayed and the only change is the updated time axis.
