inefficient sql queries
Give a report/recommendation in the SQL assessment IP for inefficient queries.

manually trigger sql assessments
Would be great to be able to trigger a refresh of the SQL assessment and email the results instead of waiting for the normal refresh cycle for the SQL assessments.
20 votesStopping and starting the agent, in the absence of a ‘synctime’ (see thread here https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/azure/en-US/a0b938c9-ed0f-4649-9f43-7aa14cd42ec4/controllingscheduling-advisor-runtime?forum=opinsights ) will force it to re-run. But we prevent it from running more frequently than 4 hours to minimize performance issues.
Are you in SCOM or Direct agent?
For SCOM we might be able to whip up a ‘task’ to click in console… otherwise there is no other infrastructure at the moment that allows ‘pushing’/triggering tasks from the cloud onto agents – the solution packs only contain a bunch of MPs that get downloaded every few minutes and contain RULEs that run on a schedule… ; probably future enhancements / deeper integration with the Automation engine might make this possible. Will pass along to the team, thanks for the feedback.

For the way we think about ‘emails’ – it’s more as in alerts notifications at this stage – see this other item http://feedback.azure.com/forums/267889-azure-operational-insights/suggestions/6519198-long-running-saved-searches-or-scheduled-that-ca

Update the recommendation solutions to reflect that On-prem machines might be used
My systems running the OMS agent are all local and on-prem in my envrionment. And yet, most of the copy in the solutions refers to them as Azure machines.
I think this copy could be updated to reflect the fact that many people will use OMS as an SCOM alternative to manage machines that might be on-prem or off. Any explicit references to 'Azure' when refering to infrastructure strikes me as legacy text that should be updated.

Need SQLAssessment Working when it discovers a Cluster
The exisiting SQLAssessment works great when discovering the local sql instance and performs the assessment. But looks like there is no official support when it runs, discovers a cluster instead. It is failing to generate recommendations in that case and hence no recommendations in the OMS portal. Can you please make it work?

We need a Production vs Development Servers Flag & Data Warehouse Database Flag
We need a way to flag a SQL Server as Production vs Development and a database as Data Warehouse vs Transactional so that the assessment can properly evaluate the rules.
For example, The Avoid Simple Recovery mode assessment is always flagging development databases. This should not flag data warehouses or development servers. There are probably several other rules about SQL Server that should evaluate differently based on if the server is production or development or warehousing vs transactional.
5 votesThanks for the feedback. This will help us as we look at the different ways people want to group servers and add inventory style information to servers.

New Requirments SQL assessment
Great solution and it's helping to complete the readiness in near real-time. We want to recommend folks check on the tool so it will help E2E validations easily.
Cluster checks:
1- Cluster checking for Quorum Voting Rights (QVR), Quorum Configuration, Split brain vulnerability, and current Possible owners for Cluster Group and SQL resources.
2- Need to scan all relevant clusters and remediate by moving the Cluster Group to the same node hosting the SQL group (No alerts will be sent).
a. No Auto remediation and it should show-up in the OMS.
3- Scan the cluster logs

False Remote Desktop alert
The SQL Assessment notifies me that Remote Desktop isn't enabled on my SQL servers. However, it's configured via GP. The assessment should take that into account.
5 votesI will forward to the CSS owner of the SQL Assessment rules/checks to investigate.

Monitor SQL Database Mirroring and SQL AlwaysOn states and events.
Enable the monitoring and tracking of Database Mirroring and AlwaysOn states and events.
4 votesWhen SQL is logging to the Windows Event Log you can collect these events today.
Am I correct in assuming that you want to get data from the Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.n\MSSQL\LOG\ERRORLOG files?

SQL Full Audit
It would be great if we could have full DML and DDL audit trace for SQL servers, databases and tables.

Add assessments for Database Mail and SQL Server Agent history
If the SQL Server Agent does not have a mail profile configured, it logs errors into the SQL Agent log.
This should have raised a recommendation to configure the profile.

Custom SQL Assessments
It would be useful to be able to run our own queries and aggregate the results in log analytics.

What is RequiredUpdate schema and how to use it?
Schema definition should be provided for all the tables and there use for the developers.

Fix duplicate recommendation for the exact same time and exact same server.

Manually Run SQL Assessment
Having the SQL Assessment is great, but how to do you run it manually? That would be really nice for use that are actively attempting to resolve findings.
If it's already there, then a way that we are able to find it easily.

Skip this rule for virtualised SQL environments
Can we have this rule discarded for virtualised hosts in Azure. This alert is only valid for Physical Servers and has no impact on Virtual Servers
Consider changing your power saving settings to optimize performance.
Your power saving settings are currently set to the default Balanced power plan. If your SQL Server instance is under heavy load this can increase response times and lead to sub-optimal performance.

"incoming connections" recommendation should not be made on non-Azure instances
I get the "Configure SQL Server to accept incoming connections" recommendation for all of my instances, despite none of them being in Azure. It would be preferable to only get this recommendation on Azure as it does not apply otherwise.

Ability to ignore recommendations per AffectedObjectName
for a SQL engine with multiple databases you can have differet settings such as full recovery mode for one DB and simple for another, but it is the same RecommendationId for all databases for the Recommendation "Avoid using the simple database recovery model". Will it be possible in a future iteration to ignore remmendations on a per affected object ?
