How can we improve Azure Log Analytics ?

  1. Do not sunset the OMS mobile until the Azure mobile can display dashboards and chart information.

    Do not sunset the OMS mobile app until the Azure mobile app can effectively replace the functionality. The current Azure mobile application cannot display any dashboards (including Azure dashboards) nor can it display log analytics or application insights queries. This functionality is currently only available in the OMS mobile app!

      We are actively seeking for feedback in this area, as this is non trivial decision for us. Based on the user voice, there seems to be some passionate supporters for this capability, yet, the number of users actively using the app remains very low. Would love to hear ideas on how to reconcile this:
      1. is it just a great demo feature?
      2. Which one of the features users are using – dashboards vs. search vs. alerts?
      3. Could something like PowerBI be a viable alternative? If not – what’s missing?

      • Network Performance Monitor : custom network test has a test frequency of min 5 minutes

        Network Performance Monitor - Configuration - Service Connectivity Monitor. The custom network test has a test frequency of min 5 minutes. 5 minute intervals to check an endpoint is too long, its also too long to graph out trends or analyses in troubleshooting. 1 minute intervals will be needed. This is the only thing preventing my clients from using this solution for network monitoring.

        • Can't create alerts based on cross-resource queries

          It used to be possible through the OMS portal to link an Application Insights instance to Log Analytics. Since the portal is being depreciated, along with the App Insights connector, we are forced to use cross-resource queries to query an App Insights instance from a separate Log Analytics instance. This works fine for general queries, but we cannot create alerts based on cross-resource queries. The alert will not create because of a "syntax error", when the same query works in Log Analytics.

          There should be a way to ingest App Insights data into a Log Analytics instance. Or else we…

          • Allow user to define the sample data set for Custom Field mapping with FastExtract

            Log Analytics provides for modeling custom fields in custom logs using FastExtract.

            The mapping tool limits the user to the top 100 log entries when doing the modeling of custom fields. This can be seen in the interface when doing a field extract by clicking the "hide tips" link in the right hand side. The tips scroll away revealing the Condition section which indicates a "take 100" limit.

            I've struggled to create fields that contain all possible values for a field or column in my custom logs due to this arbitrary limit.

            • We should be able to customize the email body of the email notification generated by Alerts.

              So, Alerts will be sending default emails.. we should be able to generate the customized email with the search results.

              • Log Analytics - allow configuring different data collection settings per connected machine\agent in the same workspace

                for example: in a scenario where two windows machines are connected to the same log analytics workspace, provide the option to ingest windows performance counters data to the workspace only for the first machine (when both machines connected to the same log analytics workspace)

                This feature will be very useful when a customer needs to use a single workspace for different use cases, but willing to keep all the data in a single location, while preventing unnecessary data ingestion which will result in additional costs.

                • Create the cmdlet to fetch our OMS alert or alert rule to easly maintenance, due Get-AzureRmAlertRule do not support this feature today.

                  Add support to get-azurermalertrule to handle the OMS Alert and alert rule to maintenance, clone, delete, etc. Due actually is not supported, if you need it required to work on Alert API.

                  • Provide ability to query resource Graph data from Log Analytics

                    Please provide option to query resource graph data from Log Analytics. That will allow to correlate data between those and some interesting scenarios will be possible. Also you should be able to use Log Analytics query that reaches resource graph and you can create Log Search alert.

                        Can we add the supported region in the solution introduction page from service market when creating the solution from portal ?
                        And add some region-check during the deployment and prompt warning message if the region is not supported ?
                        It's hard for users to figure out why it's not working after the solution is crated successfully in un-supported regions.

                          After I changed the advanced setting, for example, the performance data of the Windows on Log analytics, could you please add the save warning if I do not save and directly close the page?

                          • Alert email query character limit

                            There is a link in the alert emails from Log Analytics that pulls up the query results in a browser. There seems to be a character limit on the query that is returned by the link. One of our queries is 800+ characters and is only partially displayed, resulting in a syntax error when following the link. Please increase the character limit of the linked query.

                            • Deep link to specific solution dashboard

                              With the old OMS Portal, it was possible to deep link directly into a specific solution dashboard. This is no longer possible with Log Analytics in the Azure Portal as the URL doesn't change after hitting the Workspace Summary/Overview tab. We also used to be able to specify the time range as part of the URL for a dashboard too. For example, an old OMS Portal deep link, with a time range, might have looked like;

                              • why loganalytics alert is very costly than monitor alert?

                                when trying to setup an alert with log analytics workspace it showed a cost of 1.5 $ but when it configured with monitor it cost only 0.10 $, I am trying to understand why there is this price variation? can any one pls clarify this?

                                  • Option to filter Microsoft Updates from software inventory

                                    When viewing the software category of the Configuration Management / Inventory solution there's a huge amount of noise generated by updates delivered via Windows/Microsoft Update.

                                    The worst offender is easily Windows Defender. For example, on our tenant there's 41 pages of software inventory details, of which ~36 pages are just Windows Defender updates. Once you also exclude Windows Server and Malicious Software Removal Tool updates there's only ~2 pages of software inventory information remaining, and this is the information I'm interested in 99% of the time.

                                    • Azure Log Analytics for Skype Room Systems - Filter

                                      Filter unhealthy peripherals from Skype Room Systems alerts. I have a client that often changes the input of the room which generates an alert for front of the room display hardware issues. Would like to be able to customize the alert to send only if the microphone or speaker is reporting unhealthy as an example.

                                      • Maximum number of search results in notification e-mail limited to 10 results only

                                        The number search results shown in the e-mail generated by the Alerting engine seems to be limited to 10. The "search results" field in the alert e-mail shows e.g. "49 result(s)", but the results previews below only shows 10. In a setup where stakeholders need to know about all results, but are -with respect to regulatory laws- not allowed to access the Azure Monitor site itself, this is a very rough limitation. It would help to be able to increase this limit generously (1000 results).
