Open source DocumentDB
Why in the world isn't DocumentDB available as open source? Didn't you guys learn anything from Dryad: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dryad_(programming) ?
We have recently added support for OSS APIs like MongoDB and Gremlin, so that you have the freedom of choice among cloud providers and programming APIs, while taking advantage of Azure Cosmos DB’s capabilities like SLAs, global distribution, and predictable performance.
Why not?, Microsoft now love the opensource too, make Cosmos DB a opensouce database
Worst. Idea. Ever.
We need a downvote button.
As a reference, the efforts to open source ASP.Net have caused delays in their development (major changes to the whole approach for version 5), and have not shown any improvement in terms of either quality or feature set; what does improve the quality of software is valid customer feedback. And this idea is not valid customer feedback.
No, we do not need Yet Another Fragmented Effort. And this idea is especially inappropriate for PAAS.

The freedom to switch away from Azure will increase conversion to Azure. No one likes to be shackled.
