I have some content that contains diacritics like Caffè, which azure search would not be able to pick up if user searches Caffe. Elastic search has asciifolding support.
Is it possible to implement or configure somewhere? http://www.elasticsearch.org/guide/en/elasticsearch/guide/current/asciifolding-token-filter.html
Azure Search now supports ASCII folding with “standardasciifolding.lucene” analyzer. You can learn more here: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/dn879793.aspx

I would not call this feature complete as it is not possible to combine the asciifolding with any other analyzers. It is normal to do ascii folding ant then language specific stemming.

I think exact matches with diacritics should be ranked higher, but I absolutely need asciifolding. Most of my users' keyboards don't have keys for diacritics, so they don't type accent marks, etc, but my content has the native languages' diacritics.
Up-vote for this also.
Our requirement is to index a large number of names and those contain all types of characters which don't work well with search.
Example searching for Jose won't find José and dozens others like this.

Please make it configurable. SharePoint 2013 has this hard coded on so in certain languages the precision for search less than optimal.

Please consider releasing this feature. See also https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/azure/en-US/53181e1e-975d-49be-9041-340a7dfc6bee
