Azure Search

Azure Search is a search-as-a-service solution that allows developers to incorporate a sophisticated search experience into web and mobile applications without having to worry about the complexities of full-text search and without having to deploy, maintain or manage any infrastructure

  1. Auto-indexing of Power BI datasets

    there is some integration of Power BI and Cognitive Services already: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/cognitive-services/Text-Analytics/Tutorials/tutorial-power-bi-key-phrases. looking to extend this further. there are A TON of use cases for better text search / cog search in Power BI

  2. Using request body in Postman against Sitecore Indexes

    It would be really cool if Postman could be used to query Sitecore Azure indexes with a request body instead of long querystrings. Post requests to /indexname/docs do not work

  5. base64encode adds a 0 at the end.

    I use fieldMapping like following:

    {
          "sourceFieldName": "f1",
          "targetFieldName": "f2",
          "mappingFunction": {
            "name": "base64Encode",
            "parameters": null
          }
        }

    Field f2 always has a trailing zero.

    In my C# application I use 'Convert.ToBase64String' which doesnt have the 0 and the code fails to do what it needs to do.

    Please document why 0 is being added and how to handle it.

  6. Support to custom indexers

    Hi there,

    I believe it would be great to have the ability to create indexers to custom data sources, where maybe we can provide some mapping configuration between data source fields and Search index fields, and the indexers would be able to automate the process of extracting, converting the data and storing it.

    Thank you.

  7. Allow for metadata that disappeared from the original document to be also removed from the indexed document

    This is a user suggestion to allow for metadata that disappeared from the original document to be also removed from the indexed document:
    [Azure Search] Remove field value from index when not present in data source · Issue #6761 · Azure/azure-sdk-for-net (github.com)
    https://github.com/Azure/azure-sdk-for-net/issues/6761

    Currently we always do updates in mergeOrUpload mode:
    Add, Update or Delete Documents (Azure Cognitive Search REST API) | Microsoft Docs

  8. Indexing Collection data type from azure data factory copy activity is not supported.

    Hello,
    I have a use case to index collection (list) data into azure search index. I am using azure data factory to load data into azure search index. But it seems azure data factory copy activity does not support copy of String Array data type. The support is only available with primitive data types. Could you please add this functionality as many real life use cases have array/list in the data set.

  9. Azure Cognitive Search should increase the maximum limit of complex collection fields from 40 to something more appropriate for Json files.

    I have json files having more than 70 complex collection fields. I want to index these Json files using Azure Cognitive Search, but unfortunately the limit for complex collection fields is only 40 for every tier.
    I suppose the limit should be increased from 40 to something more appropriate.

  10. Visibility/metric for the usage of MultiHoming for validating if it works as expected

    We are looking to use the Multi-Homing feature for configuring the Azure search instance in the secondary region to retrieve data from the geo-replicated read-region instance of CosmosDB for making sure the dependencies are co-located in the same region. Though multi-homing feature is a great feature to resolve our multi-region requirements, there is no metric or visibility to validate if the setup is working as expected. We would like to have a metric to show which Cosmos DB instance the Azure search is indexing data from.

  11. How to rename index or indexer? once it is created?

    Correctly it is not possible to rename index or indexer once it is created. It is difficult to admin or developer to create index or indexer from the scratch. Please provide some option on indexer should be update. Also provide some option to create indexer using existing one.

  12. Re-Indexing framework

    Azure Cognitive Search should allow for ease of rebuilding index from scratch without impacting the existing search. Flexibility in custom ingestion should also be allowed.

  13. Indexer(crawler) on Sharepoint document library or any external data source

    Customer has a lot of documents in sharepoint document library.Unlike pushing data to an index, crawling all the documents from external data source(here it is sharepoint) and creating an index in azure search so that we can leverage cognitive services.

    We understood sharepoint integration with azure search is present in your roadmap, but if there is a possibility to leverage index(crawler) to index external data source it would be great. There are lot of clients approaching for this usecase.

    Thanks for your time.

  14. Auto Suggester field order

    Hi Team,
    We are using Azure search for 2 yaers now. We have a requirement where we want to show auto suggester in some order. Say if we have 3 fields as auto suggestor[Name, title, city]. We want that the value from Name should come first then the remaining ones

  16. Allow Index Management by Azure CLI

    Implement create/delete/update indexes via the Azure CLI in addition to Azure REST Api capabilities. You can create the search service itself of course, but i see no way to create the index or indexers (e.g.) using Cli

  17. Extract text in a readable manner for pages using landscape orientation in PDF

    There is a known issue with PDFs that display certain pages with text oriented in a vertical manner. The issue is not that the text is not extracted, but rather that it is extracted in an unreadable manner since current extraction methods expect text to be horizontal. Unfortunately there is not currently a work around within Azure Search.

    We would need to inspect thousands of documents and rotate the vertical/landscape pages of the PDF manually before it can work as expected.

  18. Index blob container metadata

    We're trying to set up an indexer for groups of related blobs (e.g. multiple formats of a single image file) using containers. Unfortunately, it seems like the blob indexer doesn't extract metadata from containers - only the blobs themselves. As a workaround, we can duplicate metadata across all blobs in a container, but it would be nice if the indexer supported indexing container metadata directly.

  19. Reindex completely all documents

    I can provide reason for doing it. For example there is some legacy application and SQL View as source for search or even app that is using Cosmos DB. Soft delete is only option. It could be very hard to change application code to remove documents from search index everywhere. So removed documents could stay in index.
    I know from feedback portal that Hard delete is not planned, but it is not needed if there would be possibility to allow indexer to reindex all documents completely. Just checkbox setting.

  20. Increase the number of fields per index

    Using certain platforms or applications require the usage of over 1000 fields per index. The limitation is on the low end for a platform like Sitecore - can this be increased?
