Add azure backup support for SAP ASE (Sybase)
As Sybase license are (almost) free for HANA customers...some will use Sybase for other SAP workloads ;-)
Backing up the whole VM and using SAP tools to do so currently is tedious and manual. How nice it would be if you could have azure backup take care of that and have the SAP ASE backup artefacts managable in azure and speed up the restore. Our Current DB sizes are 50GB - 500GBs.
Enabling a scenario like this would help in getting SAP customers onboarded to azure.

Hi, the Sybase ASE backup is an essential requirement for migrating exiting on-premise SAP Landscapes to Azure. When we are working on backup solution offering for SAP on Azure that would be great to have Azure Backup support for Sybase ASE also.

My colleagues already mentioned all important reasons. We are using backint for Azure Backup for HANA so using it for ASE should not be a big issue. I’m worried that something so important like Azure Backup support for ASE is going down in some voting pool, I’m worried because that means how our PM simple doesn’t have a clear picture about SAP landscapes and what is happening now under SAP on Azure topic/s.

Finding tools to backup ASE is difficult when you want to implement a mature and consistent backup strategy. Having Azure Backup providing this capability would make it attractive.

Including SAP on ASE backup capability in addition to the existing HANA capability would allow the potential replacement of other backup solutions with native Azure solutions.

SAP ASE is an important building block for SAP transformations to Azure.
ASE is used in many cases where SAP HANA is not suitable
For example as repository database for SAP BusinessObjects -

As by 2025 there will be just HANA and Sybase existing for SAP Workloads, this should be implemented as an Azure service asap. Thanks for your support!
