  1. Integrate Azure Backup with Group Policy

We have Azure Backup (MARS) deployed to 150+ servers across the globe and we would like to see a mechanism whereby we can make a global change across all servers e.g. Group Policy.

For example, we now need to add a file exclusion to every job on the 150+ servers and as far as I'm aware this means connecting to each server individually and making the change.

  2. After changing the backup schedule, the past backup data has been lost.

In the MARS backup, if you change the daily schedule to Weekly Schedule, all previous points marked as 'Daily Points' are deleted after updating the policy.
At this time, there is no warning screen.
For example, schedule Daily & 365 days retention to Weekly & 53 weeks retention.

    Warnings should be displayed!!

  3. Support for WORM (Write Once Read Many) storage backup

WORM backup is usually required for meeting compliance.

  4. Increase the limit of data disk number supported by azure backup

Azure backup supports up to 16 data disks attached to an Azure virtual machine for backup. Please remove the restriction or match the max data disks for G series

  5. Backup space used in Azure Backup Vault.

I wish to know what has used the space in: "Total Storage Consumed In Azure"

I have no real idea what has used all the space in my vault.

  6. Need detailed report on file / folder size backed up

It is nice to be able to run Get-OBJob -previous 1 and see a report of the total size of data backed up per resource (C drive, D Drive, etc), but I am looking for a report that shows the total size of each file/folder backed up in that specific resource set.

I need to be able to quickly determine where my larger sized backed up files/folders are.

As it stands now i can only see this data at the drive level. I need this more granular.

  7. Setting a storage redundant type by Azure Resource Manager template

Currently we can change storage redundant type by using Azure portal, PowerShell or Azure CLI once we create Recovery Services Vault. Some customers usually deploy resources using ARM template, so they would like to set LRS as backup configuration by template as well. It would be great if we can set storage redundant type by template as we deploy Recovery Services Vault.

  8. Support Backup of VM Guest Clusters with VHD Sets

It should be possible to backup VMs with shared VHDs. This is neccessary to relly support VM Guest Clusters.
Furthermore it should be allowed to use these Disks as Cluster Shared Volumes in the Guest Cluster.

  9. seed backup without using an external drive

To be able to upload the data from an alternative site with has a much faster internet connection and upload speed without having to rely on configuring a drive to be shipped to Microsoft.

  10. Make Offline Seed Backup A One Step Process - Why Stage It First?

When you want to seed your initial backup using the Azure Import Service you have to do a backup to a disk first (obviously). However, this is a 2 step process:

1 - The backup is done to a Staging area
2 - The backup is then copied to the disk you want to ship to Microsoft

Why do we have to stage the backup first? Why can't the backup be done straight to the disk you want to send to Microsoft?

When you are working with terabytes of data this is very time consuming.

  11. Visualize the status of replication to Recovery Services container of GRS storage

The following User Interfaces are required.
    · Implement the UI to check the actual operation.
    · Implement a demonstration UI.

  12. Add QoS function to SQL in a VM backup

During the Azure SQL backup of an VM, disk latency is extremely high and overloads the VM causing applications to fail. Suggested solution to resize the VM or to scatter the backup do not work. Please add a QoS function to the Azure SQL Backup to limit the load during the backup

  13. Make System State Backup Incremental

Can we make the backup of the System State incremental? We have several remote sites with very poor WAN links and although the incremental user data change is relatively small, the weekly System State backups range from 12-15 GB which run over a weekend and into the working week impacting the WAN link severely.

  14. Restore managed disk VMs without Storage Account for staging

Currently, we should specify the Storage Account for staging purpose to restore the VMs with managed disk.
But the advantage of the managed disk is that we don't have to inform and control storage account permissions for the end users. The required RBAC permission for this operation is Storage Account Contributor which means the restore operator can perform anything for the storage account.
This prevents the customer from being free from Storage Account management.

  15. Azure Backup Client should support the metered connection flag a network connection

There should be setting in the Azure Backup Client that allow the user to decide if they want the backup to run when the network connection shows that it is on a metered connection.

  16. "Backup Pre-check" Status detection

Currently we don't have any way to detect "Backup Pre-check" failure or warning. To keep backup operation in stable condition, we should have detection function.

  17. Backup of vmware 6.7 by Azure Backup Server

Now vmware 5.5, 6.0 and 6.5 are supported to backup by Azure Backup Server.
Becuase vmware 6.7 has already been released, please include the vmware 6.7 as supprted version of Azure Backup Server.

  18. More accurate status information

Currently the MARS client has limited categories for it's activity - ie, 'preparing storage', 'transferring data', etc.

What would be more useful is an actual account of what it's doing. For instance, a previous inconsistent backup will lead to the next backup sitting in 'transferring data' when it's actually checking consistency. More information is needed!

  19. move or target backups to a new vault without having to delete all recovery points

We should have the ability to move backup recovery points between vaults or at least target them to a new vault without having to delete all existing recovery points. Right now if we want future backups to go to a new vault (many reasons, for example Power BI reporting) we have to delete all existing recovery point history for that VM, go for a period of time with no backups, and then set it up again. We should be able to retain existing recovery points while using a new vault and building up history.

  20. Add The Failed Files\Folders To The Alert Mail

When I receive an email alert that my job has 'completed with warnings' it would be good to see the files\folders it has failed on instead of me having to connect to the server each time.
