  1. show failed status for scheduled backup jobs of deleted items

In doc https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/backup-azure-manage-vms, it shows that 'If Azure VMs configured for Azure backup are either deleted or moved without stopping protection, then both scheduled backup jobs and on demand (ad-hoc) backup jobs will fail with the error UserErrorVmNotFoundV2. The backup pre-check will appear as critical only for failed on-demand backup jobs (failed scheduled jobs are not displayed).'
Customer hopes the portal can show some alerts or message for backup of deleted VMs. So that they clear up the backup resources in time.

  2. View time spent on Azure Backup in Azure portal

Now view time spent on Azure Backup in Azure portal
Checking the status of Azure backup using Azure PowerShell can be used to schedule the time of Buckup subtask, but it is inconvenient so please display the time taken for Buckup and its subtask from Azure portal. .

  3. Azure backup route Traffic

i have my on-prem network connected to Azure using the ExpressRoute, the resources on azure use our on-prem DNS server.

When backing up a VM usin azure backup to a vault the backup goes out through the ExpressRoute, that generate a lof of traffic and cause troubles to our link.

is there anyway the Azure Backup traffic can go through Microsoft backbone instead of ER since i'm backing up in the same region as the VMs?
can we keep the backup traffic on the Azure backbone ?

  4. Schedule Instant recovery

Customers should have an option to choose the schedule of the Snapshots taken by Instant Recovery Feature provided by Azure Backup. So that we can have flexibility in backup and restore. Thanks.

  5. Backup only OS Disk or Data Disks.

Can we have the option during the backup configuration to select only the OS disk or the Data Disks?

  6. Azure VM Backup in Different Azure subscription within the same region

Why we cannot protect an Azure VM running in Subscription A to a Recovery Services Vaults based in Subscription B. Both (VM/RSV) are in the same region.

This is very important scenario. For example, we want to have a dedicated subscription for backup only, and we want to organize backup cost per subscription, etc.

In large organizations, the backup operators are not the same who operate the VMs. From a security standpoint, we want to separate operations tasks with different subscriptions.

    Thank You!

  7. RSV accurately reflect failed backup status, especially for any MS Azure platform related issue

    i.e.
We had a recent issue where are RSV status was all green and there were not backup failure alerts/notifications.
Yet they had been failing for weeks.
The VM was up and running as normal but the azure platform had an issue: hydration issue between Azure Service Management (Classic) model and Azure Resource Manager (ARM) model)
RSV accurately reflect failed backup status, especially for any MS Azure platform related issue

  9. Make it easier to delete Recovery Services Vaults used for backup

If I backup an IaaS VM, I can't delete the vault for 14 days due to the soft-delete feature.

I can understand the motivation - to avoid accidental deletion.

However, this is a huge pain point in testing / training scenarios. We need the ability to fully clean up a test / training environment and start over.

  11. Even with encrypted VM, VM can be restored by "Replace Disk".

Currently, encrypted VMs are not eligible for "Replace Disk" as described in the following public information.

    Title: Restore Azure VMs

    Address: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/backup-azure-arm-restore-vms

Replace existing is supported for unmanaged managed VMs. It is not supported for unmanaged disks, generalized VMs, or for VMs created using custom images.

From the security point of view as well, it is possible that the number of encrypted VMs will increase in the future, so there is a need for an easier recovery method.

Currently, encrypted VMs can only be restored from "disk restores". We should also implement VM restoration with "disk replacement" of encrypted VMs.

  13. [Azure Backup] Want to specify Backup Schedule Policy of Azure VM Backup at "local time" using Azure PowerShell

At present, backup schedule of backup policy using Azure PowerShell, we need to specify the "time", "time zone" in UTC.

Therefore, please add the function to be able to specify the "local time" (UTC + N) using Azure PowerShell.

  14. Changing the managed disk name at the time of restore

Please add the capability of changing the managed disk name.
Fixed name makes it difficult to manage.

  15. Backup SharePoint Workloads running in Azure IaaS

Having the ability to backup and restore SharePoint Server workloads (2010/2016/2019), to the item level, in Azure backup like you can in DPM and AzureBackup Server on-prem.

The goal would be to have SharePoint workloads backed up using server less infrastructure.

  16. Restore managed disk VMs without Storage Account for staging

Currently, we should specify the Storage Account for staging purpose to restore the VMs with managed disk.
But the advantage of the managed disk is that we don't have to inform and control storage account permissions for the end users. The required RBAC permission for this operation is Storage Account Contributor which means the restore operator can perform anything for the storage account.
This prevents the customer from being free from Storage Account management.

  17. Ability to perform pre-post check in Windows Azure IaaS VM Backups

There should be an option of performing Pre-Post jobs in Azure IaaS VM Windows Backup where one can define scripts which will perform some desired actions inside VM.

  18. Azure Backup completion ETA

Currently Azure does not show the ETA for backup completion, it only shows time elapsed. It would be rally helpful to have it shown in the RSV

  19. Information on how RSV backup Azure SQL database & TL in Iaas Azure VM's SQL Dbs & TLs (hourly) when VMs are actually STOP?

    RVS SQL in Azure VM:
    - To be able to find out duration of snapshot, and duration of sending to vault.
    - In Full and differential backup in last 7 days view, to be able to click on Full backup and see all the backup history.

  20. Need email notification for the error code 'UserErrorBackupOperationInProgress’

Need email notification for the error code 'UserErrorBackupOperationInProgress’. At a premier customer where they have many VMs protected, we have this error due to a previous job that ran ~32 Hrs. As there was no email notification for this failure, customer did not notice the long running backups of ~32 hrs. Another instance had a delayed backup trigger and so the next scheduled instance failed with 'UserErrorBackupOperationInProgress’. So, customer wants to really get notifications of all failures as they are blind sided of these delayed backup triggers and long running backups
