Add QoS function to SQL in a VM backup
During the Azure SQL backup of an VM, disk latency is extremely high and overloads the VM causing applications to fail. Suggested solution to resize the VM or to scatter the backup do not work. Please add a QoS function to the Azure SQL Backup to limit the load during the backup

nearly real time monitoring in log analytics for MSSQL policy scheduled backups
Currently there is no option to retrieve data in log analytics about scheduled backups in nearly real time.
All scheduled backups are collected every 6 hours which is useless for proper monitoring.
Please provide way how to configure recovery services in a way it will push data to log analytics right away as it fires scheduled backup job and update it in reasonable time interval until it finish. Similar as if you trigger it manually with backup now.
Or expose api / cmdlets to retrieve information about running scheduled jobs. With information like: Start time, end time, current status.

Backup report for SQL in Azure VM
Currently reporting in power BI is not supported for SQL in Azure VM. Please add the feature in order to view the report detailed the schedule backup jobs, storage, the backup status (succeeded, failed) in power BI.

"SQL Server In Azure VM" AUTOPROTECT Feature To Filter (User DBs, system DBs, etc)
The AutoProtect enablement is an all-or-nothing concept. In comparison the old SQL Management Job Creation Wizard creates a backup job with options like "Include UserDbs only".
We should be able to filter the AutoProtect feature similarly. It should enable auto backups of databases, but not everything on the server like "model" and "master"
Options for filtering:
* UserDbs
* manual exclusion list
* manual inclusion list based on pattern.14 votes -
Azure Backup for SQL Server replication to another region
Azure Backup supports the ability to replicate backups to another "site" or backup vault hosted in another region for site recovery purpose. The new feature of backing up SQL Server databases does not seem to include this ability.
It would be ideal to have that option for database backups as well. It would provide the ability for users to backup a database via Azure Backup for SQL Server on one region and restore that database to another region.

Enable restoring a SQL database clone to be mounted to an instance
Several backup/data protection solution vendors provide the ability to restore a clone of a database and "Live Mount" it. Some other terms are "Instant Clones". The ability to mount a database backup as a database that can be interacted with on an instance opens up some interesting use cases around:
1) Disaster Recovery (DR) testing
2) Restoring a single table or subset of a database.
3) Dev/Test
4) Migrations
5) etc...8 votes -
Run Backup/restore of a SQL Server DB via SSMS
Run Backup/restore of a SQL Server DB via SSMS
From SSMS we are actually able to see backup done by Azure Backup of SQL Server on an Azure VMs but we can't restore it.
Can be great to be able to do it like this SYSADMIN or backup role can manage it without access to the portal.8 votes -
Stagger Backup Jobs For Azure SQL VM Backups
Backup jobs for the databases protected seem to only run simultaneously. This puts a heavy resource burden on the server.
Consider options for staggering the jobs perhaps per policy.

Azure Backup for Analysis Services IaaS VM workloads
Would be important to include protection for Analysis Services workloads running in IaaS VMs like we have for SQL Server right now. Normally BI Solutions, take advantage of SQL Server Database Engine instances but also Analysis Services instances, so, would be very interesting to have a solution that could protect all these pieces of software.

Allow the SQL in IaaS VM Agent to be used across multiple vaults
I would like to be able to select a VM have the agent installed and then use the same agent across multiple vaults in the same subscription. This would be used for when a Vault is for a specific business unit and charged back and only has 1 database on a Shared Database platform

Alerting on Non-triggered jobs
We recently experienced an issue where Full (and differential) backups were no longer running for an availability group, but log backups were running fine.
The issue in this case was that no backup jobs were triggered against the primary node, which is where full and differential backups are taken.
The way that Azure Backup of availability groups work today, the full backup job is started against all nodes, but fails for all secondaries.
If there was some way to alert on "all nodes failed" or otherwise detect a non-triggering job, that would be appreciated.

SQL Backup encryption without TDE
One should be able to encrypt SQL backup thru SQL's backup-encryption feature without using TDE in the SQL VM.

Need to mitigate UserErrorSQLLSNValidationFailure during Azure Backup workload extension upgrade
Currently, the log backup (SQL on Azure VM Backup) is cancelled during every Azure Backup workload extension upgrade triggered.
it causes that log chain broken and UserErrorSQLLSNValidationFailure is happened.
in some cases, it induces Remedial full backups and it influences for performance.
I hope that this issue will be mitigated because this issue will happen every time extension upgrade.6 votes -
Recovery Vault Backup SQL database multiple selection
Currently can only rerun the backup item from Azure portal one SQL database at a time.
Please improve Azure portal for backup management to be able to multiple select backup items for many SQL databases to rerun database backups with the same options of FULL or DIFF or LOG and compression etc.
As have had 20-30 database backup failures - and had to rerun one database at a time, which was a waste of time, when there should be a way to rerun the failed jobs.

Alerts to Webhook for Azure Backup SQL in IaaS VM
Backup SQL in IaaS VM as an Azure native function is a great idea, we've started using it to backup our DBs, it's far more convenient than setup backup directly to azure storage.
but still if we want to perform this broadly then we'll have to monitor backup job more closely, if the alerts can be throw to somewhere else through webhook, then we can get call or sms alerts.3 votes -
Autoprotect does not work for me when I add a new database. I have to run discovery again and then it started backing up database
I set my SQL instance for Azure backup to recovery services vault and selected AUTOPROTECT option.
I noticed that Autoprotect does not work for me when I add a new database on SQL server. That new database is not getting backedup automatically. I had to run discovery again and then it started backing up the database. Is there a way to avoid that step? Any new databases should get backedup automatically when AUTOPROTECT is ON
