  1. Longer Term Retention of Backups for Azure File Shares

I have set up an Azure File Share and configured a daily backup. But the retention period for daily backup is only 120 days. I need a way to retain backups for a longer period of time for compliance and archival purposes. Quarterly backups would be fine. Is there a way I can backup a file share or a snapshot of a file share to regular Azure Backup with the availability of its longer retention periods?

  2. Blob storage - Add a Backup & Restore feature

Regarding the blob, geo-replication is very cool for the HA side, but it is not a backup.

It would be nice to be able to backup a blob storage on another blob storage, to cover against an accidental deletion of the storage account via the portal, or from the code by an error of a programmer by the use SDK (call API) that does not control recursion (and delete calls).

  3. Include status of backup consistency for azure backups

From the portal.azure.com web interface we can see the type of consistency for a backup. We would like to have visibility into this information through the PowerBI reports and powershell commands.

  4. Restore VMware VMs, backuped with Azure Backup Server, in Azure

Currently it's possible to backup VMware VMs to Azure for off-site or long term copy. It would be great if these backups could be restored in Azure as IaaS virtual machines (if the on-premises data center crashes for example).

  5. Unlock VMs Prior to Initiating Backups via Recovery Services Vault Job

If you lock a resource group containing VMs as ReadOnly, VMs in that resource group will fail to backup because they are locked.

Please provide an option to bypass ReadOnly locks for recovery services backup jobs.

  6. Make it easier to delete Recovery Services Vaults used for backup

If I backup an IaaS VM, I can't delete the vault for 14 days due to the soft-delete feature.

I can understand the motivation - to avoid accidental deletion.

However, this is a huge pain point in testing / training scenarios. We *need* the ability to fully clean up a test / training environment and start over.

  7. [Azure Backup] Want to specify Backup Schedule Policy of Azure VM Backup at "local time" using Azure PowerShell

At present, backup schedule of backup policy using Azure PowerShell, we need to specify the "time", "time zone" in UTC.

Therefore, please add the function to be able to specify the "local time" (UTC + N) using Azure PowerShell.

  8. Even with encrypted VM, VM can be restored by "Replace Disk".

Currently, encrypted VMs are not eligible for "Replace Disk" as described in the following public information.

    Title: Restore Azure VMs
    Address: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/backup-azure-arm-restore-vms
    ----
Replace existing is supported for unmanaged managed VMs. It is not supported for unmanaged disks, generalized VMs, or for VMs created using custom images.
    ----
From the security point of view as well, it is possible that the number of encrypted VMs will increase in the future, so there is a need for an easier recovery method.

Currently, encrypted VMs can only be restored from "disk restores". We should also implement VM restoration with "disk replacement" of…

  9. Functions for checking the progress status ( ** % etc.) of Azure Backup from Azure Portal

We can check from Azure Portal whether Azure Backup is completed.
However, we cannot see how far it is going at this time.

Our customers want us to implement visualization of the percentage currently being achieved by Azure Portal.

  10. Integrate Azure Backup with Group Policy

We have Azure Backup (MARS) deployed to 150+ servers across the globe and we would like to see a mechanism whereby we can make a global change across all servers e.g. Group Policy.

For example, we now need to add a file exclusion to every job on the 150+ servers and as far as I'm aware this means connecting to each server individually and making the change.

  11. multiple backups per VM per day

You have GOT to be kidding me, you can ONLY backup an Azure VM ONCE a day?! What the heck Microsoft?! We MUST have the option to backup a VM as MANY TIMES A DAY as we choose. We are paying for the backup, the storage, and the VM so why do you guys prevent this? I feel like I am dealing with a new company in the 90's but no, its Microsoft the biggest bunch of backwards thinking company there is. This is why I go open source, only MS for clients. Because of this backwards design, my client…

  12. Azure Backup + on prem Network Security Group (NSG)

One issue I ran into when trying to setup our backups using Recover Services Vault was connection back to the service. If we have outbound security rules for our Network Security Group, we would have to white list all of the Azure IP addresses. This was a crazy long list that we would then have to maintain. The second option was to setup a proxy, which would cost money because that would be a second machine that would have to be running. I thought it might be nice if Azure created a tag for Azure services like the ones for…

  13. Restore VMware vm to alternate location

Please provide the capability to choose the vSwitch or DVS in VMware when restoring a VMware VM to an alternate location.
We cannot restore VMware VMs to an alternate location when using vCenter only communication with DPM. The VMware restore fails to create the VM in an alternate VMware cluster and VMware returns an error indicating the creation of the DVS fails as the DVS is different in the alternate VMware cluster.

  14. Option to delete specific recovery points

Add an option to delete individual recovery points. Alternatively if that is not possible add option to continue purging old backups according to the backup policy after server has been deleted\renamed\migrated (VNET migration).

  15. Need detailed report on file / folder size backed up

It is nice to be able to run Get-OBJob -previous 1 and see a report of the total size of data backed up per resource (C drive, D Drive, etc), but I am looking for a report that shows the total size of each file/folder backed up in that specific resource set.

I need to be able to quickly determine where my larger sized backed up files/folders are.

As it stands now i can only see this data at the drive level. I need this more granular.

  16. Setting a storage redundant type by Azure Resource Manager template

Currently we can change storage redundant type by using Azure portal, PowerShell or Azure CLI once we create Recovery Services Vault. Some customers usually deploy resources using ARM template, so they would like to set LRS as backup configuration by template as well. It would be great if we can set storage redundant type by template as we deploy Recovery Services Vault.

  17. After changing the backup schedule, the past backup data has been lost.

In the MARS backup, if you change the daily schedule to Weekly Schedule, all previous points marked as 'Daily Points' are deleted after updating the policy.
At this time, there is no warning screen.
For example, schedule Daily & 365 days retention to Weekly & 53 weeks retention.

    Warnings should be displayed!!

  18. Allow VM Extension to talk directly to vault without internet access

Many customers do not want to grant their IaaS VMs direct access to the internet. Forced tunneling prevents the Azure Backup Service from protecting Azure IaaS VMs. If the Azure Backup VM Extension was allowed to talk directly the Recovery Service Vault through internal traffic in the datacenter, VMs would not need Internet access for backups to complete successfully.

  19. seed backup without using an external drive

To be able to upload the data from an alternative site with has a much faster internet connection and upload speed without having to rely on configuring a drive to be shipped to Microsoft.
