Add individual file/folder restore options
When backing up Virtual Machines it would be nice to be able to restore individual files and folders instead of the whole VM.
We have enabled file recovery from Azure VMs and it is in public preview:
For Windows: https://azure.microsoft.com/blog/instant-file-recovery-from-cloud-backups-using-azure-backup/;
For Linux: https://azure.microsoft.com/blog/instant-file-recovery-from-azure-linux-vm-backup-using-azure-backup-preview/
Now you can restore files from Azure VM backups. The feature is in public preview for both Windows and Linux. Please check this out and provide your valuable feedback. For more information, visit our documentation page (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/backup-azure-restore-files-from-vm)
You can register the Private Preview feature in any subscription, with the following PowerShell commands:
PS C:> Login-AzureRmAccount
Select the subscription which you want to register for preview
PS C:> Get-AzureRmSubscription –SubscriptionName "Subscription Name" | Select-AzureRmSubscription
Register this subscription for File recovery preview
PS C:> Register-AzureRmProviderFeature -FeatureName “ItemLevelRecovery” –ProviderNamespace Microsoft.RecoveryServices
YET another feature that was usable (but not the best) in the classic portal and taken away in ARM. You would have thought that something as critical as the backups would be fairly high on the 'things to sort out' list fairly quickly
It appears that this functionality is now in private preview as a (greyed out) option for "File Recovery (Preview)" now appears when selecting a backed up VM
Not just individual, but also whole VM with folder/drive exclusions.
For Backup you can actually try using "Cloudbacko Pro" software as it gives fast incremental backup and minimizes the window . Thus from this you can take Mysql backup also.
Is there any update on when individual files and folders will be recoverable through the Azure Virtual Machine Backup? Currently there is a gab that exists with providing system recovery and individual file and folder protection. Individual files and folders recovery is only available through the Windows Server Backup Client. System recovery requires Azure Virtual Machine Backup. This is a not a good solution because we need to run two backups to provide the required protection.
This is currently being offered by using Microsoft Azure Backup Agent as oppose to the VM Protection. The Azure Backup agent is a file level solution whereas the VM Protection is a full VM (snapshot) type of backup.
This is a critical feature, please add

5 disk limit!?! I have an Azure VM configured with 16TB Storage Pool (current max) and have 45 VMPs (mounted volumes as folders,) 5 each per 9 MPRs (lettered drives.) This is a standard, globally accepted and MS recommended configuration. We need this ability to back up this scenario. It should go without saying that it should be supported given it is MS recommended and an on-premise standard for at least the past 10-15 years. IF MS DPM supports it, Azure Backup should too. We also need the ability to have storage separate from the VM and that will allow file/folder level backup/recovery to multiple points in time.
