Machine Learning

Welcome! You can use this site to tell the Azure Machine Learning team what features you would like to see.
Azure Machine Learning enables developers and data scientists to build advanced analytic web services in minutes and hours, eliminating the heavy lifting associated with deploying machine learning in modern data driven applications.

How can we improve Microsoft Azure Machine Learning?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

  1. Add Package ‘Relaimpo’

This is a critical package in calculating the relative impact of the components in a multivariate regression model.

    • Allow Reader connections to Azure SQL from "read-only" accounts.

When reading from an Azure SQL db, using a 'Reader' module, the user account needs to be admin. Read-only accounts don't seem to work. Can we get this feature added? Some DBs are production and we need to limit types of access.

      • Add Machine Learing to Azure Stack

Request: Add AzureML as part of Azure stack

        Rationale
Interest in ML is on the rise Many companies are thinking of ML pilots.. Now ML usecases many times use ainternal documents e.g claims documents. IMO many organizations will take 2-5 years to grapple with the security/privacy concerns. In the mean time , it will help the organizations start ML pilot projects if AzureML is made available in AzureStack for on premise trials.

Azure ML currently is one of the most attractive destination for anyone to pilot with. It brings SAS like drag and drop capabilities. Has a much more complete…

        • Enable odbc connection from "Excute python script" module

Odbc drivers are not installed on machines running the python script. Solving this will enable users to create their own Reader module by using their own business logic to access azure sql.

          • Direct support for Theano

Is there a direct support for Theano within the Studio? If not, is it being considered? I assume that there may be a way around by creating a custom zip file, but the package is too rich and sophisticated for such a round about way...

              • Output Multiple Result Sets in R Execute Script Module

Here is a common use case:

                library(caret)
                trainIndex <- createDataPartition(df$serviceName, p = .8, list = F, times = 2)
                df.train <- df[trainIndex,] # I need to export this, the training data
df.test <- df[-trainIndex,] # and, I need to export this, the testing data

The createDataPartition is useful becuase it ensures both training and testing data have the same factors.

                • Add data selection and data quality assessment module

Just providing algorithms is not sufficient. Anyone can use free R to run an algorithm. The tough thing is how to decide what data to enter into the algorithm and what transformations to apply to this data. Rarely will a user have data that is ready for analysis (apart from clustering/association analysis).

Kindly do not repeat the mistakes of the tool you had in SSAS.

                  • Support JSON for input/output

Several custom algorithms I use are designed expecting input in JSON format. This is ideal for integrating with a web service, but unfortunately ML Azure doesn't seem to support it.

JSON parsing is not yet implemented as a separate module. As a workaround for JSON parsing, you could use Execute R Script in following manner:

                      1. Compress the JSON file as zip package and upload to ML Studio as .zip format file.

                      2. Connect the .zip file to Execute R Script rightmost port

                      3. Execute following R script (replace “sample_json.txt” with your file name).

                      library(RJSONIO)
                      library(plyr)
                      data.set = ldply(fromJSON(content=“src/sample_json.txt”))
                      maml.mapOutputPort(“data.set”);

Note that this assumes your JSON file holds an array of similar records.

                    • Reference Web Service Parameters in R/Python/SQL/SQLite/etc scripts

Currently, individual operation parameters can be "Set as web service parameter". However, there are many cases where I don't want to pass the whole value as a parameter, but reference a parameter within that value. This happens mostly in script operations (R, Python, SQL Reader, Apply SQL Operation).

For example, I may have a SQL query with various filters. A R script may also want to access various parameters to alter its behavior. This can be useful when experimenting with various model options, or to generalize (reuse) an experiment for different cases.

This could be implemented by allowing, in all…

                            • Add email notifications when a running instance completes

If you've got a big dataset, often the first few steps (e.g. Reader getting several Gb of data from Azure BLOB storage, or a split/fold/partition/etc on a big dataset) can take a disproportionately long time. And that's fine, but I don't necessarily want to sit & watch.

If you added an "email me when step X completes" so I can go make dinner while the import runs, I would be a happy, happy boy.

                                  • Easier management of saved datasets

I currently have ±200 saved datasets and find it very cumbersome to delete them one at a time. It would be great to have a checkbox-based bulk delete function.

                                    • Track the history of each dataset

It would be super helpful for someone joining an existing team to see the history of each dataset. Where it came from (output of an experiment, uploaded, etc) and where it is being used currently.

                                      • AutoLayout for Design Surface

It would be great if the design surface has the auto layout button to position the modules automatically. Most of time working with a workflow needs to use lots of modules it would be easier to just focus on the model creation and not focusing on positioning of modules. In addition some might be interested to see the workflow in left to right direction.
