Site Recovery

Microsoft Azure Site Recovery Manager helps you automate protection and orchestrate recovery for your private clouds. In case of a disaster, users can initiate a recovery plan failover that can recover the virtual machines on the target site in orderly manner.

How can we improve Microsoft Azure Site Recovery Service?

  1. ASR compatibility with SLES 12

When are they going to launch the ASR agent for SLES 12 support?

    • ASR to Premium Storage from Hyper-V

Currently only VMware can ASR to a Premium Storage account. Being able to do that from Hyper-V is desired, as there is also no easy way to switch from Standard to Premium storage today.

        • Support for Windows Server 2016

Just setup a new Windows Server 2016 environment. Went to setup ASR to show clients the new windows server and azure and found it would not support 2016. Hopefully this can be sorted soon.

          • Need Planned Live Failover versus existing Planned (Dead) Failover

Today, live migration (non shared disks) requires copying the VHDX over to the destination server. This seems like a waste of time and disk
space when we already have them copied over using HyperV Replica.

What would be a killer new feature would be to essentially initiate a "Planned Live Failover" where it merges the capabilities of Live Migration and Planned Failover. Then we could essentially fail over, without downtime, without shared disks, in a minimal amount of time with hardly a blip. Thank you for consideration of this feature.

            • ASR Powershell cmdlets to start replication jobs for specific servers in a Recovery Vault

Right now ASR Powershell cmdlets are very basic, there is no option to be able to start a replication job in which u can specify the name of the vm and the specific parameters, having such cmdlets would be amazing in conjuction with automating ASR initial replication.

                  • Can we have a way to define destination Resource groups...

I spend so much time migrating to a new destination RG that I end up losing a whole day, not to mention it causes unforseen errors and sometimes takes 2/3 tries to get the RG migrated over.

                    • ASR physical server replication to azure two network card IP cannot correctly detect

replication protected VM has two nic card (192.168.x.x and 10.x.x.x)
created two vNet in same ARM (192 and 10 series)
perform test failover but only detect 192 segment in azure VM
                      seems bug on this

                      • Move-AzureVirtualNetwork to deal with source VMs that have osdisk length greater than 80 characters

With reference to case [REG:116080914523233] I have been asked to raise a new ticket to go to the product team. This is really a feature enhancement request. When running the Move-AzureVirtualNetwork on a VM with an OS disk iwth more than 80 characters in the name (which is the case for VMs restored from backup for instance) it fails, as ARM cannot supprot more than 80 characters in the vhd name. There needs to be a capability for the migration tool to rename the disk as part of the migration, or manage it in some way. We have a fair…

                        • Planned failover not a supported scenario?? (VMware to Azure)

https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/site-recovery-failover/ states that Planned failover is not supported when using VMware to Azure...is this correct? Is this a feature that is on the roadmap?

                            • Choosing Defaults in ASR Protection. Server Generation, targeted vNet, ability to auto append the "DR" name of the VM.

It would be great just in general and via ASR to be able to choose defaults. For instance, I really dislike the A series VM, it really should be depreciated by now, but at the moment there isnt a way to say that i would like to (by default) choose all my ASR protected Vm's to be D Series for instance. Also, choose a default subnet, and vNET.

In addition to that why is Azure so bent on creating new vNET's, new NSG's, New everything when deploying a VM. Being able to choose defaults would make all of us more…

                              • Storage accounts for ASR. Can we just have one special high performance one, that can handle several hundred to a few thousand VM's?

Right now we have speced out about 20 VMs per storage account in ASR\ARM. It seems like in ASM you could get away with one storage account for all of ASR, but with the help of some of the capacity planning spreadsheets, we calculated about 20 VMs max for a storage account. That is going to result in dozens of storage accounts for us. Could we please get a unique and special ASR only storage account, that offers speed and great IOPS, that can handle several hundred VMs?

                                  • InMage Agent Throttling

Please include agent level data replication throttling (perhaps like the ASR server has by using Windows Server Backup feature) so that WAN links are NOT saturated with replication data.

                                    The scenario is:
ASR in data center, VMs you are trying to replicate are at remote sites with small WAN links (low bandwidth/high latency).

                                    • ASR Recovery Plans Availability sets and Load balancing

ASR Resource Manager: Can we please introduce the capability in a Recovery Plan to have availability sets and load balancing added to a group of virtual machines during vm creation in a failover?

If you are failing over a load balanced Web Front end application, you can currently failover the individual ARM virtual machines but you cannot add them to an availability set during the recovery plan.

                                        • Restore back to Physical Machine

At present a Physical Machine can Failover to Azure, which is great.

However, when you restore your Physical Instance, Azure will not restore to the Physical Machine, only to a VMware Cluster.

For businesses that to not have virtualization infrastructure this makes the solution pointless, and a inconvenience.

If MS/Azure could investigate restoring back to the physical machine that would be beneficial for SME's and would see a huge uptake in this.
