Site Recovery

Microsoft Azure Site Recovery Manager helps you automate protection and orchestrate recovery for your private clouds. In case of a disaster, users can initiate a recovery plan failover that can recover the virtual machines on the target site in orderly manner.

How can we improve Microsoft Azure Site Recovery Service?

  1. Email notification or RSS Feed for "known issues". (business impact)

It would be helpful to have an RSS Feed or email distribution so when "known Issues" internal to microsoft are "known", the community in general will also know.

for example, there was a hotfix for an issue created with UR12 for system center affecting replication. Our engineering team had to open a case with microsoft.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=54854

Admittedly, in this case, the title of the article for the hotfix does not imply that it fixes our specific replication issue which was caused by UR12 but when we call in and are told it is a "known Issue", it would be nice…

      • Validation/Notification of Inability to Restore VM to Cloud Service

Need a way to provide a notification or alert that restoring a VM to a cloud service which is associated with a reserved IP is not possible BEFORE the copying disks instead of waiting until it has copied and then is staring to provision the VM. This can waste a large amount of time for a user that is not aware of this deficiency.

        • More options for replication cycles

          Probably been suggested before.

More options for replication cycles e.g Exclusions for VM's/Disks as well as time exclusions. Better options than 1 minute, 2 minutes & 15 Minutes..

          • Failback from Azure to VMware without a backup of the original Configuration Server

After replicating VMware to Azure using Azure Site Recovery, it should not be necessary to require a backup of the original Configuration Server prior to a disaster event occurring on premise. If in the event of a disaster, we failover our VMs to Azure, and then recover a new VMware site from scratch, we think we should be able to failback directly from Azure to the new on-premises VMware site. We think it is redundant to require a second, configuration, server just for the purpose of recreating our on premise deployments.

            • or server migrations to Azure, have a button to set a server for high priority for replication.

For server migrations to Azure, have a button to set a server for high priority for replication.

Therefor on scheduled migrations to Azure the Process server places a higher priority on the server that will be moved in the next 24 hours (or so).

Please add support to replicate to Managed Disks. They simplify design and offer many benefits post-failover.

                • Add Another Failovertype for Azure Automation

Ideally we use Automation to deploy additional assets during a failover, including test failover. However, when we run a cleanup after a test failover, the complete recovery plan is not run. I would like the option to modify my runbooks to detect a failovertype of cleanup (in addition to planned, unplanned, and test) so I can undo whatever I did, and have the runbook executed during the cleanup.

                    • Could the system check for ths and change it on the mounted disk

When failing back from Azure ASR to VMware if the VM was created from a template the GUID shows in conflict. Can we have this be a check and if so change the GUID of the disk?

                      • Support test failover in different subscription

                        Use case:

I protect VMs using my production subscriptions, and when I initiate a planned / unplanned event, the VM spins up in such subscription.

When I want to initiate a test failover, I want those resources to spin up in resources (Storage / vnet) on a separate subscription dedicated to dev/test.

                              • Need Planned Live Failover versus existing Planned (Dead) Failover

Today, live migration (non shared disks) requires copying the VHDX over to the destination server. This seems like a waste of time and disk
space when we already have them copied over using HyperV Replica.

What would be a killer new feature would be to essentially initiate a "Planned Live Failover" where it merges the capabilities of Live Migration and Planned Failover. Then we could essentially fail over, without downtime, without shared disks, in a minimal amount of time with hardly a blip. Thank you for consideration of this feature.

                                • ASR Powershell cmdlets to start replication jobs for specific servers in a Recovery Vault

Right now ASR Powershell cmdlets are very basic, there is no option to be able to start a replication job in which u can specify the name of the vm and the specific parameters, having such cmdlets would be amazing in conjuction with automating ASR initial replication.

                                      • ASR physical server replication to azure two network card IP cannot correctly detect

replication protected VM has two nic card (192.168.x.x and 10.x.x.x)
created two vNet in same ARM (192 and 10 series)
perform test failover but only detect 192 segment in azure VM
                                        seems bug on this

                                        • Move-AzureVirtualNetwork to deal with source VMs that have osdisk length greater than 80 characters

With reference to case [REG:116080914523233] I have been asked to raise a new ticket to go to the product team. This is really a feature enhancement request. When running the Move-AzureVirtualNetwork on a VM with an OS disk iwth more than 80 characters in the name (which is the case for VMs restored from backup for instance) it fails, as ARM cannot supprot more than 80 characters in the vhd name. There needs to be a capability for the migration tool to rename the disk as part of the migration, or manage it in some way. We have a fair…
