Site Recovery

Microsoft Azure Site Recovery Manager helps you automate protection and orchestrate recovery for your private clouds. In case of a disaster, users can initiate a recovery plan failover that can recover the virtual machines on the target site in orderly manner.

How can we improve Microsoft Azure Site Recovery Service?

  1. RHEL 7.4 support

We desperately need support for RHEL 7.4 / CentOS 7.4, since the upgrade from CentOS 7.3 to CentOS 7.4 goes seamlessly with "yum upgrade". Even some applications run this command during installation.
Now the replication has been blocked by an "unsupported kernel version"

    • exclude disks from replication: Hyper-V to Hyper-V

I'm aware that this has been implemented for 2 scenarios:
      1) VMware to Azure
      2) Hyper-V to Azure
      https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/site-recovery/site-recovery-exclude-disk

But we need it for the scenario: Hyper-V to Hyper-V
Some people also call this 'on-prem to onprem'

This is a very important scenario for us. We want to use ASR for DR across ~100 Branch Offices. Each Branch office has one or more disks which contain non-critical data that we need to exclude from replication.

      • Column Sorting for Replicated Items

Any chance we can get column sorting (ascending/descending) in the Azure Site Recovery vault ?

Im working on a migration for a client using ARS/ASR and although the number of servers are not in the 1000s it becomes very difficult to manage and confirm all servers are being replicated as they should be.

As you can see from the below (or attached) screenshot it would be good if we can do a sort by name or sort by IP address....heck even by replication status would help.

        • Automatically increase quotas so VMs can failover

In the event of a disaster there is a very good chance that the quotas will be too low to run the VMs replicated using ASR. Capacity should be calculated automatically so that what is replicated can run.

          • Azure VM Backup (Recovery Services vault) Support for 4TB disks

Now Azure VM Backup only supports VM attached with <1TB Disks.

Hence 4TB disk available in Azure, so required Azure VM backup support >1TB disk as well.

                • Allow VMM 2012 upgrade without redeploy/resync

At the moment ASR cannot be upgraded when integrated with VMM and want to upgrade from VMM2012 to VMM2016. This is unworkable if we have many VMs that all need to resync. It's also unacceptable because during resync we cannot failover our protected items thus we are unprotected for disaster.

                  • Protect logical partitions and not the whole disk

There are times, particularly on a physical machine, that a disk is divided into logical partitions but you only want to protect some logical partitions and not the whole disk. The disk may have unused space that doesn't need protection as well.

                    • Granular filtering for email notifications

While the new email notification feature is a nice add, it needs a little more control. It currently floods recipients with emails every time there is a status change in replication. It would be nice to be able to filter on regex in the RecoveryProviderErrorMessage or stipulate to only send an email if x number of occurrences happen within y timeframe. I did see the SCOM MP under review, but this would be nice to have within the ARM portal natively or via PowerShell as well.

I did a TFO VM, I made changes to it, now that I'm happy with it, I would like to convert it into a Production VM without the need to re-protect.

                                • Support for VMs with 1 CPU (one click replication)

                                  Per the documentation here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/site-recovery/site-recovery-support-matrix-azure-to-azure#support-for-compute-configuration,

it appears that One Click Replication (https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/simplified-disaster-recovery-for-azure-iaas-vms/) using ASR won't work for VMs with only 1 CPU

however this would be desirable; not really sure why the restriction of 2+ CPUs is there - please elaborate if no plans to change, alternatively a timeline for relaxation of this requirement is appreciated.

                                  • Better reporting for Azure Site Recovery

Currently Azure Backup has great reporting - you can choose which category you wish to report on (Critical, Warning or Information).

Unfortunately with ASR we can only turn it all on or all off. We would like to only alert on the critical issues.

                                    • Powershell interface for ASR in Azure to Azure scenario

We need a way to run a failover by powershell interface so that we can automate it. It would be nice if powershell interface option is supported in Azure to Azure scenario.

                                        • Azure Site Recovey - Oracle Linux 6.6 or above support

Currently Azure Site Recovery only support versions 6.4 and 6.5 ( https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/site-recovery/site-recovery-support-matrix-to-azure )

As Oracle Linux is Red Hat Enterprise and ASR support more recent versions of Red Hat Enterprise it would very important support new versions of Oracle Linux as Red Hat Enterprise

                                          Regards
