Allow tenants to protect and recover their virtual machines
It is very important for tenants to have control over backup and recovery of the VMs they created in their Windows Azure Pack VM Clouds. It should be possible to backup VMs while online and recover while offline.

We are reviewing a feature for disaster recovery for VMs. If you have particular ideas about the feature, please share with us here. Note that disaster recovery and backup/recovery are different features.

Given the code was already written for the DPM resource provider and demo'd this shouldn't be a huge project to accomplish?
The biggest gap in WAP is tenant managed backup. Providing the resource provider that was demo'd and promised would make WAP an easier sell to service providers.
Acronis have a resource provider for WAP but as a Microsfot shop we'd much rather use DPM. That said, backup is not a choice, the vendor is.

A year ago at igniteat https://channel9.msdn.com/Events/Ignite/2015/BRK3491 (forward to 45th minute) a BaaS demo was shown for WAP. they said resource provider coming up for WAP that will leverage DPM to allow BaaS. Where is this all ? It's been a year now and nothing came out ; (

Hi Aaron,
we got the information that this Backup Resource Provider (we were all waiting for) were never released.
Yes, at the Ignite 2015 in Chicago there was a session presenting that RP. -

Tenants should be able to backup their VMs with DPM. They should be able to see how often it's backed up, list recovery points, perform restores, receive notifications/reports for compliance, and take one-off backups

To be able to add DPM as resource provider in WAP thus enabling the capability of backing up VMs and providing possibility for Tenants to make restore of a VM.

Would be a great feature. Allow tenants to select "Backup VM" which would backup the VM in DPM. Then get usage reports for billing used backup storage.

Integration with DPM should be out of the box experience. For other backup solutions will be best if Microsoft can partner with them and they create Resource providers for their Backup solutions.

Yes, i think that an integration with a backup Solution (DPM, BE, Veeam, Altaro...) is a must if WAP will be used by a Service Provider for example. Starting integration with DPM out-of-the box is a nice feature.
