  1. Possibility to import MSSQL/MYSQL database through WAP portal

We need a way to allow our customers to import a database dump (.bak file) through the Windows Azure Pack portal.

  2. Multiple SQL Instances per subscription

Is it possible to allow multiple sql instances per subscription. Currently in sql standard or enterprise users can create databases but only in a shared instance, it would be great if it would be possible to create multiple databases in one dedicated instance per subscription or multiple dedicated instances per subscription.

  3. Add "Create User" permission to SQL database Admin

The SQL database admin does not have permissions to add additional users to the database. For example add an user that an application can use to connect to the database with only read and write permissions on tables.

  5. Database naming convention to prevent duplicate error

Add a prefix or Unique Identifier in front of database to avoid creation failures of databases with name that already exists

Thank you for your feedback! We understand this limitation of the databases resource provider and certainly would like to make this experience better for our users!

  6. DBaas needs

    • For a new database, tenant could be able to restore a database model from a library

    • WAP administrator could be able to build a DNS template name résolution. For example, it 's important to be able to migrate DB to a new server without breaking SQL connection.

    • Bdaas Administrator could be able to choose that new Db will be deployed into Vhd Files that will be plugged to SQL server VM. very usefull for storage migration.

  8. Add Additional CMDLET support for database management

Allow powershell scripting to add and drop databases. Also would like functionality to control how long a database is available for sandbox type environments. This allows users to create a database for a prototype and then remove it after a period of time - cleans up the space for future requests.

  9. Resource Provider for postGRE SQL

    Re-posted in Databases:

I didn't find yet a resource provider that can integrate PostGRE SQL for deploying PostGRE instances.
As we use more and more open source solutions, it could be interesting to have such a connector.

  10. Choose collation for Tenant Database

When a tenant creates a new database on a Tenant Portal it is created with the SQLLatin1GeneralCP1CI_AS collation no matter what default collation configured on MS SQL server, where database is created or, where WAP store it's databases.
It would be more sense maybe if we can configure the collation setting, or automatically create Tenant DB based on default MS SQL Server collation setting

  11. Allow database admin name containing a period (.) character

We are unable to use admin names that contain a period (.) character when creating a SQL Server database using WAP,

For example, if we define a database admin as CONTOSO\john.doe, WAP displays the following error: "'john.doe' is not a valid user name. The user name must begin with an alphanumeric or international character and contain only alphanumeric or international characters."

We recently implemented DBaaS for one of our customers and all their domain user accounts contain a period (.) character. This limitation in WAP is denying them the opportunity to use their domain user names during database creation.

    Please…

  12. Be able to suspend AD accounts

It seems in the SQL provider you can suspend a SQL account like 'Bob' but if you are using AD like 'bob@contoso.com' you can't suspend the account as it reports that it can't find user 'bob'. It's like it does not match up the text.

Thanks for the suggestion, we are planning to fix this so that you can suspend a windows authentication account as well.

  13. Tenant SQL Servers - Support for Split Domain Models

The resource provider for SQL Server is pretty screwed when it comes to supporting controlling resources in a child domain or partially trusted remote forest. The specific issue I have is in my test environment:

HarmfulHosting.net - The Domain where everything lives.
    HarmfullyHosted.net - Tenant resources

When you add a SQL Server AlwaysOn resource to the SQL Server resource pack, it queries the list of replicas for the SQL Server via the DMV's (sys.availability_replicas) to find who to put the databases on-to.

The trouble is that whilst it's smart enough to take the FQDN end-piece off when adding the AG…
