API Management

Microsoft Azure API Management is a turnkey solution for publishing APIs to external and internal consumers. Quickly create consistent and modern API gateways for existing backend services hosted anywhere, secure and protect them from abuse and overuse, and gain insights into usage and health. Plus, automate and scale developer onboarding to help get your API program up and running in no time.

  1. Support gRPC in Azure API Manager

Please add support for gRPC to Azure API Manager.
I would like to expose gRPC services to clients.
It would also be great if we can have REST services for clients that call backend gRPC services.

  2. Add support for ionic scheme in CORS policy

Today CORS policy in APIM only allows http, https or file scheme in allowed-origins.
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/api-management/api-management-cross-domain-policies#CORS

Ionic webview plugin serves application from ionic:// or custom scheme. None of http, https or file is valid in ionic webview.
    https://github.com/ionic-team/cordova-plugin-ionic-webview

Please add support for inoic scheme. Thank you.

  4. API Management more control with mail sending

Currently there are very few options to set, when it comes to mailing about API Management events (new subscriptions, new developers, etc.).
It would be great, if following could be included for e-mail configuration (some of these things help avoid e-mail being recognized as spam by some spam filters, as in our case):
    - optionally removing "on behalf of" when sending e-mail
    - including text/plain representation in sent e-mails (besides default text/html)
    - using SendGrid as a e-mail sender (as in other Azure services)
    - using custom reply address (instead of "on behalf of")

Any maybe some other things that…

  5. Support for HTTP/2 for APIM connecting to backend services

HTTP/2 is supported for APIM client side facing communications, it will be great to support HTTP/2 also for backend side facing communications so that the entire request chain can be HTTP/2 enabled.

  6. Allow to filter/select operations when adding a new API from a OpenAPI spec

Currently, if you need to create/update an API from an OpenAPI spec with only a small subset of the whole list of operations supported by your backend, you will need to edit the generated spec to remove all the operations/types not required which is boring and error prone, or import all of them and remove all the undesired ones one-by-one, which makes our lives sad and miserable..
A simple UI which allows to filter/select the specific operations we need to import/update would be awesome!!

  7. Import and append api's to an existing api through arm deployments

In the azure portal it is possible to append multiple backends behind one logical api endpoint. I want to have the same functionality via ARM. Every repo uses the apim devops resource kit to get the swashbuckle generated openapi spec and generates based on this the ARM that registers the API in APIM. Currenlty when you have 2 ARM templates that target an api with the same ID this api is replaced. It should be possible to append and postfix the operations in case of conflicts. So basically the same as the azure portal does but this time via arm…

  8. A process for manually approving new users

Today, you have the possibility to force a manual process for approving a user access to a product. However, if you need to enable simple username-password you have no possibility to have a manual process for approving a user access to the portal.

It would be good for a user to see all products and APIs available in the portal, being able to browse and discover APIs. This means that anyone can create a user and browse APIs, basically spying on a company thru the names of APIs and products.

The other way is to hide all APIs behind Products…

  9. De-couple Subscriptions from Products & Issues pages

    1) Products are visible on the Products page only when the require subscription is set to true
    2) Users can post their issues only when they are subscribed to a product

Our use case has custom subscriptions and we would like our users to try out a product before actually subscribing to them. We would also like them to post issues prior to subscribing. So these restrictions prevent us from using the Products/Issues pages. Ability to override this default APIM behavior would be beneficial.

  10. Disable the Developer portal

Could you please provide a feature to disable the Developer portal (a feature to hide the login page) for users who do not use the developer portal.
-The feature to disable the Developer portal
-The feature to restrict access to Developer portal by IP address
    etc.

  11. Add metadata to subscription

I would like the ability to add metadata to a subscription. A key-value that could describe the subscription.

Values should be accessible in policies - to be added as inbound headers for example.

The actual API could then use the values to return different values depending on the subscription.

  12. Customize 'New subscription requested notification'

The current 'new subscription requested notification' messages can't be modified in the 'Notification templates'. The current messages sent to APIM admins include the following:

"Dear member of the [API Team],
It is our pleasure to let you know that your API has another potential subscriber! [AccountName] submitted a subscription request to the API product [ProductName] on [RequestedDateTime].
Please accept or decline the request by going to the [ProductName] page on the administrative portal located here [DevPortal link].
    Thank you,
    [API Team]
    [Dev Portal URI]"

A more useful feature for admins is the ability to approve/reject the request either directly from…

  13. Soap to Rest - Better error details

Give better error description when the import process from WSDL to REST fails.
At present time the error is quite generic and only give us the last xml node processed with success, leaving us to a painful try and error approach to why the import did not work.
It would be nice to have more detail about the error, for instance the line number in the WSDL, the type of error detected (recursion, etc).

  14. Limit call rate by key in the Consumption tier

The rate-limit-by-key policy prevents API usage spikes on a per key basis by limiting the call rate to a specified number per a specified time period. This is really important feature of api managament and it's not available in Consumption tier.

  15. Send notification when somebody signsup

Add a notification for when a user signs up in the Developer portal.

As of today, this is not there resulting new users wanting to get access to a product while the administrator is not notified.

  16. Add a "Subscription Required" checkbox during APIM API creation.

Currently when creating an APIM service in Azure and adding a new API, there is no option to remove the "Subscription Required" parameter until after the API's creation. After creation this can be managed under the API's settings, however it would be very beneficial to be able to access this during creation.

  18. fix erroneous catching of protocol violation errors

When an API (wrongly) return a response body and a "204 No content" return code, a "500 protocol violation error" should be raised by APIM instance.
In fact it is the case, but the protocol violation error is raised as a response on the call folowing the erroneous "204" API, not the erroneous API itself. The error is raised only the following call (whatever API it is) that is implemented on the same backend of the "204" API AND if the folowing call is made in the same HTTP session (I mean during the http "keep alive" timeout).
    This bug…

  19. APIM Publisher Portal link is broken

On the blade for APIM, the "Publisher Portal" link no longer brings up the Publisher Portal as of 20190911. It now brings up the non-GA Developer Portal. Please restore the previous functionality, or provide another means to access the trend information.
