API Management

Microsoft Azure API Management is a turnkey solution for publishing APIs to external and internal consumers. Quickly create consistent and modern API gateways for existing backend services hosted anywhere, secure and protect them from abuse and overuse, and gain insights into usage and health. Plus, automate and scale developer onboarding to help get your API program up and running in no time.

How can we improve Azure API Management?

  1. Configure custom git repository

At this moment, each API management instance offers a git repository which can be used to make changes to the instance. In DevOps scenarios where one team has multiple instances (dev, staging, prod) you want these changes to follow the product lifecyle along with other changes. For example: a certain release includes a new back-end API which you also want to include into APIM. You'd want the entire package to move from development into staging in one single release.

Imho the perfect way to fix this is to hook-up each APIM release to a centralized github repo, and have it…

  2. API Management + Azure Functions: Custom Authorizers

    Hi, guys are you fine?

I'm thinking to create an interceptor function but I didn't find this feature at azure functions/API Management.

at the AWS they have a native implementation called Custom Authorizers: "Custom Authorizers allow you to run an AWS Lambda Function before your targeted AWS Lambda Function. This is useful for Microservice Architectures or when you simply want to do some Authorization before running your business logic."

Do you know if is that possible in the future?

  3. Allow for R Code Samples

It would be beneficial for researchers and developers to include a Code Sample for APIs in R.

  4. staging

    Hi,

Would it be possible to add a staging feature to APIM? Right now it is very hard to validate configuration changes in Production. Even if you have a PPE/TEST separate environment, the configurations won't be the same.

Deploying to production without testing is too risky.

Would it be possible to add a staging feature, where configurations can be tested in production and if after flight configurations seem validated, then changes can be published from staging to production

  5. Add support for configuring SSL settings of APIM instance using Git repo or Powershell

We're trying to automate our deployment of APIM using the APIM git repositories. However, APIM currently doesn't support configuration for SSL settings of an APIM instance either using a git repository or Azure PowerShell cmdlets. We would like to have that support so that we can manage APIM completely through the git repository and powershell instead of having to change things in the Portal.

  6. Optin/Optout on features & validations

Often times I see that new validations are being rolled out by APIm team (recent one was from last week's May 11th release) where they rolled out a validation check to force uniqueness on API path (excluding parameters) which broke our builds when our release build is enroute to prod deploy. This also gives the power back to the consumers on when to opt in or opt out of any features you are releasing with future deployments .
