Automation

Azure Automation allows you to automate the creation, monitoring, deployment, and maintenance of resources in your Azure environment using a highly-available workflow execution engine. Orchestrate time-consuming, error-prone, and frequently repeated tasks against Azure and third party systems to decrease time to value for your cloud operations.

  1. xmlhttp breaks when triggering with Azure Automation Account job; Bug or Feature?

    Hi AA Team!
    Could you take a look at my (unattended) help request <https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ac87a04b-9439-445c-8fa6-f73230d1b4a7/do-automation-account-job-calls-block-jsessionid-cookies?forum=azureautomation>? It basically claims that using an Azure AA job breaks a working solution: "The only difference between a successful and a failing execution is adding the Azure Automation Account job as application trigger." I have not found any clue in my internet researches, not did I receive any response to my posts (MSDN, SO).

    Best!

    A Maerz

  3. Allow for persistent session on Azure Automation Hybrid Worker to bypass the need to load modules multiple times for a long recurring task

    We have several provisioning /de-provisioning tasks that are kicked off by an external system. That system is designed to initiate these tasks on a per-user basis (not grouped) and each time a task is kicked off all of the modules required for the task have to load. This causes the time from the task being kicked off to the task complete taking quite a long time (few minutes.) In an environment where potentially thousands of tasks are queued to run, the faster things run the better.

    It would be nice to be able to create some sort of 'persistent' session…

  5. Allow Dashes in Resource groups or vm names in Graphical Run Books

    Why is this not consistent? Don't allowed when creating RGs or VMs. Now graphical run books useless to me.

    Thanks for the feedback. This is something we’ve been planning to add to the service. Monitoring\compliance for Automation. Please share if you have any specifc area you’d want to have captured that will impact your overall Automation Compliance.

  7. Simplify VM Restarts

    Allow restarts by a named list, not the current resource group and then select exceptions.
    Under the current setup to schedule a restart of a single vm in a resource group containing 10 other VM's it a complete mess to setup its not worth the effort, with me ending up restarting manually.
    Or even better allow a scheduled restart from the VM configuration itself along the lines of the shutdown option.

  8. Enable Ctrl + s in powershell editor

    It's nice to have the powershell editor and see how it supports useful capabilities like code comments through keyboard shortcuts. (Ctrl + k c), however, it would be even better if it supports Ctrl + s to save the script (currently it opens a window to save the whole webpage...), that would make the editor even more intuitive.

  9. Powershell command to manage alerts

    I'd like to have a way to bulk manage alerts. currently I have to navigate to alerts > select the alert to see the smart group> and I can change the state to 10 alerts at a time to closed or acknowledged. but when I have 300+ alerts to change the state to this takes too long.

  10. source control

    Add source control for python runbooks in VS Online..

    When syncing from our VS online repo, the .py files get the following error.

    Exception: Cannot validate argument on parameter 'Type'. The argument "Python2" does not belong to the set "Graph,PowerShell,PowerShellWorkflow" specified by the ValidateSet attribute. Supply an argument that is in the set and then try the command again.

    Thanks for the valid suggestion. Your feedback is now open for the user community to upvote which allows us to effectively prioritize your request against our existing feature backlog and also gives us insight into the potential impact of implementing the suggested feature.

  11. Azure portal blades are impossible to navigate. Please add sizing controls to better navigate.

    The blades on the portal are very poor in performance and navigation controls. Please improve the blade navigation by adding sizing controls. The technologies and solutions are great, but the portal experience leaves the users abandoning the idea.

  12. Ability to filter jobs based on name with wildcards

    In the 'runbooks' view, I can type part of a runbook name and the list of runbooks is filtered, showing all runbooks with a name that partially contains the text I typed.

    In the 'jobs' view, I can only filter by typing the EXACT name of the runbook. Please extend this filter so it has the same behavior as the runbooks view.

  13. Fix Azure Automation Modules Repository to support Side by Side versioning of modules

    Azure Automation Modules repository currently only supports 1 version of a module with the same name. This breaks Side by Side module versioning with Powershell DSC. Please add support for uploading multiple versions of modues.

    Steps

    1. Create input at set a default value

    2. Set the input to be mandatory, which hides the default value textbox.

    3. test the runbook in the tester, and the default value will still be inserted in to the input textbox

  16. Resource Health for Azure Automation

    Azure Automation does not have Resource Health like as Virtual Machine.
    In Oct 25 to Oct 28, huge issue for Automation has occurred. 'Service Health alert' generated after Oct 28.
    If there is Resource Health for Azure Automation, we can know the issue happens in Azure Automation.
    Do you have a plan for using Resource Health?

  17. Display Name for Custom Connection Type Properties

    With the current Connection Type extensibility, giving 'friendly' names to the properties within the type is not possible, resulting in unfriendly names displayed to the user when creating a new Connection. Supporting Text Hints would also be nice, though less necessary.

    ie:
    {
    "ConnectionFields": [

    {

    &quot;IsEncrypted&quot;: false,
    &quot;IsOptional&quot;: false,
    &quot;Name&quot;: &quot;ServiceBusNamespaceURL&quot;,
    &quot;DisplayName&quot;: &quot;Service Bus Namespace URL&quot;,
    &quot;Hint&quot;: &quot;ie: <a rel="nofollow noreferrer" href="https://[namespace].servicebus.windows.net&quot;">https://[namespace].servicebus.windows.net&quot;</a>,
    &quot;TypeName&quot;: &quot;System.String&quot;
    },

  18. Allow Advanced source Control Sync to Github and VSTS

    provide an option to allow users to unhide the runbooks that sync AA and Github to allow users to modify the process, with their custom process.

    Use case would be adding an email notification or integrating with a ticketing system so their is a record of who preformed the sync and when in other system than the Azure Audit log.

    Thanks for posting this! You can actually overwrite these scripts with your own content today just by importing a runbook with the same name as the script (just like global modules, these are global runbooks). So for example, you can name a script Sync-MicrosoftAzureAutomationAccountFromGithubV1 and your script will run when you click the “Sync” button.

    In order for us to make these scripts public, we need to remove some proprietary code so this isn’t just as simple as releasing them. I’ll discuss with the team to see what we can do though.
