  2. Allow execution of a PowerShell script on every instance from the Management Console

Allow, from the management console, to execute a Powershell command (with elevated permissions) on every instance in the hosted service (or role). There should also be an option to do a rolling run or a brute force run.

Output from the script, obviously, needs to be displayed at the end of the run.

  3. Add Filter Search to Insert Dialogs

When using "Insert" to insert a setting or activity, it would be nice to have a full-text search filter to quickly narrow down results. Given that the Azure module has hundreds of activities already, will become increasingly tedious to locate what you want. This also fits with requests for intellisense and authoring tooling in VS or ISE.

  4. Enable tracing to more easily troubleshoot graphical runbooks

In the runbook test experience and production jobs for graphical runbooks enable tracing of the input objects, output objects, streams, exceptions, start and end times for each activity. This will enable much more efficient troubleshooting.

  5. Testing on Hybrid Worker - Run Settings does not remember run location

In the testing console, the inputs are remembered when the testing console is opened again, but the Run Settings already reset to "Azure" even if it had been tested on "hybrid worker" the last time it was open

Thanks for this suggestion! We will investigate remembering the last run on setting for hybrid.

  6. Import certificates created by publish settings

When downloading the publish settings file certificates are created in all of my subscriptions. I can import and use them in the shell, but why cannot I use them as automation assets?

    Updating this to be reviewed.

To be transparent, since we are moving to Azure Resource Manager which doesn’t support publish settings files, we will be unlikely to take this request. If this is a real blocker for you, please respond with a bit more detail so we can take a closer look.

  8. Ability to manually enter the webhook expiry date

Currently we can only specify the expiry date by picking a date from the calendar. It would be nice if we could manually enter the year/month/day of the expiry date without using the calendar.

Thanks for this suggestion. Is there a reason that you don’t like the date picker?

  9. Show duration in job summary

In the portal runbook job summary it is difficult to tell how long a runbook needed to finish. Please provide a minutes:seconds duration for a quick glance understanding of execution performance.

Thanks for this suggestion. Right now, you can see the start and end times but need to compute the duration yourself.

  10. Can't delete schedule with ":" in name

We create a schedule (in Automation) named "5:45". When we later went to delete that schedule, we got an error, both on the new and old portal.

  11. Test Pane should pre-populate previous Start Values (like the ISE Add-On)

This feels like a bug in the Portal UI, if for no other reason than the API must support it, and the Azure Automation Add-On for PowerShell ISE supports it as well.

If I create a new runbook in the Portal, add a parameter, then start it with the Test Pane.. if I then switch over the Add-On, and for that same new runbook click the 'Test Draft In Azure' then 'Start New Job' button, the parameter values I entered in the UI are pulled into the text entry.

I created this as a new request because the existing request…

  12. When Publishing a runbook that runbook refences unpublished runbooks, an error should be returned and the runbook should not be published.

In nascent scenarios, the Draft & Published states of runbooks are a useful - if not required - mechanism for making and testing progressive changes to runbooks without interrupting working-state automation.

However, in mature scenarios, this scaffolding does not provide a very robust mechanism for gating changes, and does not provide an external contract to consumers that adheres to the restrictions it seemingly arbitrarily implies during execution.

The canonical example is parent/child dependency. If this is a caveat that must exist, and if during the process of Publishing, a list of referenced runbooks is built up for whatever reason (presumably…

  13. Runbook all logs timestamp

While investigating a failed runbook - I find that the 'All Logs' output has a simple time display - and of some 25 events, I cannot tell which came first as they have the exact time stamp.

Can the service expand on the timestamp to include seconds or possibly milliseconds?

Or even add clarity by stating if the top record or bottom record is first - even that is not clear.

  14. Support translating WebHookData to parameters without a wrapping runbook

Currently I need to either create a wrapper runbook to translate the WebHookData parameter, or add the param and a bunch of translation code to each runbook I want to expose via webhook.

Instead, it would be awesome to be able to define a webhook without having to modify the existing runbook or add a new wrapper.

Even if this requires custom PS, that would be fine (if not ideal), as long as it can be added as part of the definition of the webhook itself.

So, for instance, on the Configure Parameters blade, provide a multiline textbox to enter…

  15. Support Variable strings longer than 512 characters in the UX

the UX should not limit what is possible to from Set-AutomationVariable

currently the UI limits a string variable to 512 characters but you set a longer string via the Set-AutomationVariable

Connection types are defined as a file in the module file. Is there a reason that you want to created them via cmdlets instead?

As a side note, you can do this through our API today as a workaround.

  19. Describe properties of a connection

When adding a new Connection, it would be nice to have descriptions or more information for the various required fields - Application, Tenant, Certificate - and possibly a dropdown box for the subscription.
