Automation

Azure Automation allows you to automate the creation, monitoring, deployment, and maintenance of resources in your Azure environment using a highly-available workflow execution engine. Orchestrate time-consuming, error-prone, and frequently repeated tasks against Azure and third party systems to decrease time to value for your cloud operations.

  1. Azure portal blades are impossible to navigate. Please add sizing controls to better navigate.

    The blades on the portal are very poor in performance and navigation controls. Please improve the blade navigation by adding sizing controls. The technologies and solutions are great, but the portal experience leaves the users abandoning the idea.

  2. Ability to filter jobs based on name with wildcards

    In the 'runbooks' view, I can type part of a runbook name and the list of runbooks is filtered, showing all runbooks with a name that partially contains the text I typed.

    In the 'jobs' view, I can only filter by typing the EXACT name of the runbook. Please extend this filter so it has the same behavior as the runbooks view.

  3. Fix Azure Automation Modules Repository to support Side by Side versioning of modules

    Azure Automation Modules repository currently only supports 1 version of a module with the same name. This breaks Side by Side module versioning with Powershell DSC. Please add support for uploading multiple versions of modues.

  5. Graphical Runbook: Input that had a default but afterwards is set to mandatory still have default value in tester

    Steps

    1. Create input at set a default value

    2. Set the input to be mandatory, which hides the default value textbox.

    3. test the runbook in the tester, and the default value will still be inserted in to the input textbox

  6. enable sending "all event data" to a runbook when using OMS "take action" feature

    OMS has the "take action" functionality. It gives us the option to send a field from the specific event into the runbook. It would be great if it was possible to send all data into the runbook.

    This could be used to test webhooks connected to OMS alerts, and to design runbooks to handle specific kinds of events.

    It could even be nice if it would by default map the event data to a parameter if the parameter has a specific name like "eventData" or if we can "mark" the parameter in some way to make it automap event fields…

  7. Resource Health for Azure Automation

    Azure Automation does not have Resource Health like as Virtual Machine.
    In Oct 25 to Oct 28, huge issue for Automation has occurred. 'Service Health alert' generated after Oct 28.
    If there is Resource Health for Azure Automation, we can know the issue happens in Azure Automation.
    Do you have a plan for using Resource Health?

  8. true Github intergation

    Automation has source control and thats great. But it has to be under your username. All the scripts I work on are under the company's page. It should be able to post there.

  10. Documentation on how to create a runbook that starts/stops VMs in a given order

    I haven't found any documentation on how to create a workbook that start/stops VMs of a resource group in a given order (i.e. Domain Controller, SQL server, Application Server).

  11. Display Name for Custom Connection Type Properties

    With the current Connection Type extensibility, giving 'friendly' names to the properties within the type is not possible, resulting in unfriendly names displayed to the user when creating a new Connection. Supporting Text Hints would also be nice, though less necessary.

    ie:
    {
    "ConnectionFields": [

    {

    "IsEncrypted": false,
    "IsOptional": false,
    "Name": "ServiceBusNamespaceURL",
    "DisplayName": "Service Bus Namespace URL",
    &quot;Hint&quot;: &quot;ie: <a rel="nofollow noreferrer" href="https://[namespace].servicebus.windows.net&quot;">https://[namespace].servicebus.windows.net&quot;</a>,
    &quot;TypeName&quot;: &quot;System.String&quot;
    },

  12. Allow Advanced source Control Sync to Github and VSTS

    provide an option to allow users to unhide the runbooks that sync AA and Github to allow users to modify the process, with their custom process.

    Use case would be adding an email notification or integrating with a ticketing system so their is a record of who preformed the sync and when in other system than the Azure Audit log.

    Thanks for posting this! You can actually overwrite these scripts with your own content today just by importing a runbook with the same name as the script (just like global modules, these are global runbooks). So for example, you can name a script Sync-MicrosoftAzureAutomationAccountFromGithubV1 and your script will run when you click the “Sync” button.

    In order for us to make these scripts public, we need to remove some proprietary code so this isn’t just as simple as releasing them. I’ll discuss with the team to see what we can do though.

  13. Trigger for Azure Automation Runbook needs Webhook writing permission.

    We want feature about RABC for action group.
    If Automation Runbook is selected in action group configuration, the user need permission for over Contributor at Subscription.

    If permission is Owner for Resource Group, we can not configure Automation trigger.
    This is because Automation trigger needs also webhook writing permission in configuration.

    Now, configuration is only permitted to Contributor or Owner of Subscription.
    It is very hard to permit these Role in every customer.
    If there is Webhook role for writing and reading, this issue will be resolved easily.
