Why on Earth was this new functionality introduced using the outdated Python 2?
Python3 runbook support would be made available as a public preview by Dec end (12/30).

Python 2 support has ended since January 1st, 2020 (https://www.python.org/doc/sunset-python-2/), is there any update to this development?
Is Python 3 available in preview? when is the GA?

Should we start requesting Python 4 support now considering how long it's taking to get support for 3?

This seems important to consider as support for Python 2 is being dropped on January 1st, 2020.
Azure functions is not the same service as Azure Automation. Some of the management functionality that exists in Automation accounts is very helpful in managing team runbooks that functions doesn't provide.
Please please please upgrade Automation to work with Python 3.
