Automation

Azure Automation allows you to automate the creation, monitoring, deployment, and maintenance of resources in your Azure environment using a highly-available workflow execution engine. Orchestrate time-consuming, error-prone, and frequently repeated tasks against Azure and third party systems to decrease time to value for your cloud operations.

  2. Bring Azure Automation and DSC to Azure Stack

Please bring Azure Automation and DSC to on-premises to Azure Stack . This is an important part of the hybrid cloud story.

  3. Export logs to Azure storage

We are using Azure Automation to orchestrate a number of operations including (1) moving some files around in BLOB storage (2) provisioning an HDInsight cluster and (3) kicking off a job on that cluster to process the data files.
The HDInsight job stores its logs in BLOB storage and our Operational Support have requested that we store all logs from our system in the same place.
The Azure Automation output logs are available through the Azure Portal or via Powershell, however that does not meet the requirement to store all logs from our system in the same place. We would…

We are currently working on exporting Automation logs to Azure blob storage and to Log Analytics.

We are starting with job status and then adding in job streams. Please post back if there are specific pieces of information that you need to see included in these logs.

  5. Create a native SCSM Azure Automation connector

System Center Service Manager (SCSM) only has connectors to SMA and Orchestrator. To be able to shift to Azure Automation for all our automations there have to be an Azure Automation SCSM connector. Please add this soon!

  6. Allow access to Azure KeyVault

Currently, i'm using azureKeyVault for account and secret but it didn't work in DSC automation configuration so i need to push to AzureAutomationCredential to access. Is it possible to allow access keyvault from automation ?

  7. Please add SQL as Runbook type.

This would make Azure Automation a suitable replacement for SQL Agent. It would require only a few inputs: Server, Database, Credentials and obviously the SQL code to execute.

  8. Creation of RunAsCertificate using ARM Template

Requires a way to request a certificate for the AzureRMRunAsCertificate and AzureRunAsCertificate automatically for the RunAsConnection (Eg. AzureClassicCertificate or AzureRMRunAsCertificate) through ARM Template JSON code.

  9. Direct connection to Storage Accounts via Azure automation is not possible without using a hybrid worker.

Currently, we cannot use the Connections strings to a storage account to connect to the Azure file share on azure automation. To access the blob/file share, we need to set up a hybrid worker and from there we can do whatever we want
This shouldn't be the case, we should be able to establish direct connection to the file share.

Thanks for the valid suggestion. Your feedback is now open for the user community to upvote & comment on. This allows us to effectively prioritize your request against our existing feature backlog and also gives us insight into the potential impact of implementing the suggested feature.

  10. Azure Automation should support Write-Information

Using Write-Output to display information on the output pane in Azure Automation does not work within functions or workflows that must return objects to the pipeline for use by other activities/cmdlets.

  11. Support accessing Azure Files from Powershell Runbook

Currently you can't use the PowerShell code generated by Azure to connect to an Azure Files share from an automation runbook. This would be a nice capability to have.

  12. Use automation account to patch the SharePoint security updates

When we use the update management to patch the SharePoint security updates, we will face the error 0x80240020 error.
According to the link, the error was occurred by we cannot logged on to the server.
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/update/windows-update-errors

So we have to manually update the patches.
We would like to use the update management to update these patches in the future.

  13. Enable simpler, more direct modifications to Azure Websites

Currently the requirements including setting azure resources is pretty convoluted (and currently does not work). A way to interact directly from automation with the websites and change common features would be very beneficial.

Thanks for the feedback. Can you describe some specific scenarios that you would like to use this for?

Right now, you would write PowerShell cmdlets against the website that you want to automate against.

Do you want to be able to send the website or website properties as parameters to a runbook to automate it? Or are you looking for similar functionality to that provided in web jobs?

    Thanks,
    Beth

  15. Allow execution of a PowerShell script on every instance from the Management Console

Allow, from the management console, to execute a Powershell command (with elevated permissions) on every instance in the hosted service (or role). There should also be an option to do a rolling run or a brute force run.

Output from the script, obviously, needs to be displayed at the end of the run.
