Diagnostics and Monitoring

  1. Support for PromQL (Prometheus Query Language)

Prometheus and Grafana have become a de facto standard for metrics in the Cloud Native world, and Azure Monitor is a valid, fully-managed alternative to a self-hosted Prometheus environment.

Unfortunately, when replacing Prometheus with Azure Monitor, most Grafana dashboard template won't work anymore out of the box, as they query the data source in PromQL, the Prometheus Query Language. It would be great if Azure Monitor would also be able to be queried with PromQL and the Grafana Data Source Plugin would support that.

This would make the replacement of a self-hosted Prometheus with Azure Monitor much smoother!

  2. Multi-resource metric alert support for Redis and Service Bus

Multi-resource metric/alert support for Redis and Service Bus.

The multi-resource metric alerts have done wonders for provisioning Azure platform alerts at scale, though only a limited subset of resources are currently supported. Redis caches and Service Bus resource support would be great, as well as a public road-map outlining future support for additional resources.

  3. Request to manage diagnostic settings for App Service Plan from ARM

There is no way to configure diagnostic settings on an App Service Plan other than the portal, when custom autoscale is enabled.

Would love to be able to do this via ARM, PS and CLI.

  4. native azure splunk integration

Microsoft should update Azure Monitor's integration with Splunk Cloud. Clients should have the ability to enable push-button integration with few inputs. The current integration approach with Splunk Cloud relies on custom-built architecture which is not officially supported by either Microsoft nor Splunk.

  5. Update API Version for ARM and grant the integration with other products like AKS, SQL, ML.

-Workspace is not matching when AKS is present as part of the ARM Template. ARM Template is not functional and the required API for AKS is not matching with the one required by Azur Monitoring for Containers.

  6. APIM Load Balancer Metrics to View SNAT Metrics Status so I Proactive Know When To Scale

My enterprise was on the phone for the last week with Microsoft support staff trying to troubleshoot a 500 "Unable to connect to remote server" issue.

The result was the SNAT was maxed out on our APIM instance. Having metrics would allow us to proactively scale it.

  11. Azure IaaS SQL VM Monitoring

Azure Monitor provides in depth monitoring of Azure SQL PaaS. But there is currently no IaaS SQL based monitoring for Azure Monitor. This is a very, very large gap for IaaS and on-prem based VMs.

  12. Monitoring Soluations of VMs is Pathetic on Azure.

Virtual machine Performance monitoring is Pathetic , the process as lengthy as you can build a new VMs and host your solution on it.
you guys need to build / Create / Offer a Solution where we can observe the Virtual machines hosted on Azure.

  13. multiple email address per one action

The customer wants to register multiple e-mail addresses in the action group.
Now it is one email address per action.
Can this be multiple email addresses per action?
Are there plans to be changed in the future.

Customers are concerned about erasing the action by mistake.

  14. Add secure TLS ciphers (which are not labeled weak by SSLLABS) to internal HTTPS Azure URLs

Per www.ssllabs.com/ssltest internal Azure HTTPS URLs are only using weak TLS ciphers and not yet using stronger ciphers like TLSECDHERSAWITHAES256GCMSHA384 and TLSECDHERSAWITHAES128GCMSHA256. Said stronger ciphers are ironically being used by Microsoft's public facing URLs like portal.Azure.com. Please enable these 2 newer and stronger ciphers within Azure internal HTTPS sites.

Context: Organizations like the one I work for only allow TLS ciphers labeled as strong by the majority of the Information Security community. Because of this the Microsoft Monitoring Agents on our servers cannot communicate with Azure…

  15. Include lock type in lock write activity events

While lock events such as WRITE and DELETE are included in the activity logs, they do not specify the lock type. This makes it impossible to track changes to locks over time if the lock type is changed. For instance if a lock is changed from READ to DELETE and back again there are two WRITE events, so there is no way to track during what period of time the lock was of the DELETE type versus the READ type.

  16. service bus subscription monitoring

Azure monitor API for service bus currently provides the ability to get messages at queue/topic level. It is equally get the metrics at subscription level.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-in/azure/azure-monitor/platform/metrics-supported#microsoftservicebusnamespaces

I used to find that they needed to be treated differently, e.g. a topic might appear to be empty, but a subscription on that topic might have millions of messages.

  17. Logging triggered alert details in workspace

I'm using Grafana to monitor my cloud environment. I'm able to get Metrics for all the resources. but I couldn't get details of alerts other than log alerts created from log analytics workspace.

Whenever alerts are triggered in Azure monitor, there's no log entries for them in Log analytics workspace.
It would be great to see to which resource the alert is being triggered in log analytics workspace

  18. NSG Flow Log Export to Event Hub for SIEM Ingestion

NSG Flow Logs can be viewed in Network Watcher or Exported to Storage, but the option to export to Event Hub is missing. Since Event Hubs have become the standard interface for SIEM solutions to access Azure logs, it would be great to be able to handle NSG Flow Logs the same way.

  19. I suggest you allow users to view Host level metric data for more than 30 days in Metric Explorer. Its sad not being able view it one go.

In Metric Explorer of portal.azure.com, users can only view data up to past 30 days at Host level. When Azure in fact has data up to past 90 days. But users are expected to view that data in a window of not more than 30 days at a time. I mean, data is available, Azure doesn't mind showing it - then why this restriction of 30 days only at a time?

Other cloud service providers like AWS provide data as far as 180 days in the past, in a single go.

Its a very basic feature, as far as I…

  20. Add monitoring of vCPU usage against quota at subscription level

Currently there is no out-of-the-box way of monitoring vCPU usage over time and against subscription quotas.

This really comes into play when using services like Azure Databricks which create and destroy VMs in the subscription very frequently.

We semi-regularly encounter failures in scaling operations on these services as we bumpo up against subscription vCPU limits, however there's no easy way of proactively mitigating against them - the Azure Portal only shows the current usage, which may be fine, and show plenty of spare capacity depending on the time of day/current usage. However there is no real way of seeing a…
