Support sync to occassionally disconnected SqlServer express, with >30 (eg 150) subscribers, or 30 dynamic but concurrent subscribers1 vote
Provide some sort of warning in the Azure Portal regarding the schema modification that occurs during SQL Data Sync
I would like more transparency in to what occurs during the SQL Data Sync when creating it in the Azure portal.
I created a Sync group, tried running it, the sync failed, and left the Hub database throwing SQL errors in my web app. Thus, there should be some sort of notification that the Hub database is modified when running the Sync.2 votes
As far as I know, as of now we have to enable "Allow access to Azure Service" ON when we use SQL Data Sync. However, I don't want to enable this option because any applications in Azure can pass through firewall rule and this may be security vulnerability.
I'd appreciate it if you could provide public IP address on Azure Data Sync Agent to be restricted on Azure SQL Server's firewall rules.6 votes
I want to use the Row-stored table for OLTP,
and to use the Column-stored table for Analyze using Power BI.
So, I hope to sync table between Row-stored and Column-stored.
There are the Row-stored table on Azure SQL Database standard,
and There are the Column-stored table on SQL Server Express.1 vote
Have any easy to configure one-way, all tables sync.5 votes
Much of my database is user-defined types, which aren't supported.6 votes
I want to pull data from a table, however I don't need all the data. I only need the data which meets certain criteria and can be easily filtered with a where clause in a sql query.
Allow to filter on column values.10 votes
Allow adding same server and same database with different logins. Currently if I try to add another connection to the same database on the same server, the action is aborted.5 votes
If Data Sync could send data to event hub reliably from SQLDB or SQL on premise one could then build your own processing, whether it be to DW, DB, stream insight, aggregate etc.5 votes
I need the ability to sync two databases on a specific date e.g midnight on 5th of each month. Currently the frequency can only be set monthly.6 votes
I'm using SYNC Preview to sync 2 SQL db servers located in different countries. I have a bug to report - the tab "Sync Rules" is not loading when clicked. I have experienced this issue since 10-24-2015 and am not able to successfully SYNC due to this bug. I may have to use a different cloud service to host our company's SQL databases if this bug persists as this bug makes it impossible for me to successfully sync our databases. Any info. regarding workarounds or solutions would be appreciated.

Provide information on what Microsoft has in store for the future of Data Sync. There has been hardly any work or updates to it in years, it has been in preview for that whole time.
I really want to use this service as there is no equivalent on the market, but am hesitant to as it could be discontinued at any time.

Thanks for the suggestion! We are actively working on the roadmap, and will share publically when we have a concrete plan. Meanwhile, it would be great if you could share with us what scenario are you looking to use sync for. If you would like to be contacted offline, do leave a message and I’ll get back to you. — Linda Wang
Allow the data source to be a view instead of a table. Allows me to transform the data a bit before it's put up into azure.
(Actually wonder if this it would work if I set the sync up with tables then switch them for views).7 votes
Interesting trial! Sync data from views will be quite complex and not always achievable. Could you comment on what kinds of transformation you need against the base table before syncing, and why you cannot sync the base table then do the transformation in cloud? – Linda Wang
Instead of trigger based loads, Support Change data capture as a way to identify changes to a table.
We currently use CDC for incremental loads to our data warehouse, Adding triggers and tables to support Data Sync duplicates this information.17 votes
Thanks for the suggestion! We hear you. We will revisit the whole architecture when Azure SQL support CDC. — Linda Wang
Current smallest interval is 5 minutes, allow me to set this to between 1 and 4 minutes or a continuous synchronisation option. A wait of up to 5 minutes for sync is not always acceptable.94 votes
Thanks for the feedback. It’s not in our planned scope yet but we’d like to see how many customers need this. – Linda Wang
We need a way to force a sync. With the minimum sync window of 5 mins we cannot guarantee prevention of data contention. For example, in a bookings system, the on premises database is always 5 mins out from potential web updates. Maintenance users want to add exclusions or blocks and need to know no new bookings were made in those slots. Likewise, if the on premises database makes entries, it needs to force those entries immediately to the web and not wait for the Sync. We see this as an important architectural requirement to an otherwise impressive service.27 votes
Thanks for the feedback. We will evaluate it.
Have an option to script out sync groups. Or import-export sync rules, this will help save some time to set up same sync rules for multiple environments, rather than setting up sync rule for each table.6 votes
Thank you for your suggestion! We will consider this request as we priority our feature backlog.
I can't use SQL Data Sync because it doesn't support all data types yet.
If MS Azure team starts to support other data types, I'll use the SQL Data Sync service.30 votes

Curently if the database contains circular foreign key dependencies the Azure Data Sync will not deploy the sync group reporting the error:
Cannot deploy the sync group because there is a circular foreign key dependency313 votes
We will consider this in the future.
Most of the data being passed as datasets is highly compressible. We have created methods to compress/decompress the data when batched, but it would be nice to support this option out of the box to minimize the amount of data being sent over the wire.58 votes
Thanks for the suggestion! We are evaluating the priority and cost for implementing this.
