Documentation

The Azure team is always trying to improve the content resources that help you to learn and use Azure. Conceptual content, how-to topics, getting started lists, graphics, and video are just some of the ways that this is being accomplished.

We need your help to decide what content is most useful for you. We also need your advice on how to improve existing content.

If you have any feedback, please vote on an idea or create a new suggestion. Thank you!

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

  1. whitepaper for cost management

Create a White Paper for best practices on tracking and management of costs when there are multiple subscriptions under an Enterprise Account. The information provided under the tagging pages and under the billing page is very basic and of limited value for enterprise users

    • Improve Pricing pages and provide a Marketplace price list

Currently, to find out how much each item in the Marketplace costs, I have to dig through each individual offering's page, look for the pricing link, and continue from there. Please provide a single-page price list that will include everything in a simple way.
Also, on the pricing pages for Microsoft VMs such as Windows Pricing (https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/virtual-machines/windows/) and SQL Database Priting (https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/sql-database/), make it clear what the prices are for each edition or version, or if there are no differences, say so.

At https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/virtual-machines/windows/, I don't see any mention of editions, versions, Nano Server, Containers,…

      • broken link - Vm Scale Sets upgrading

        on this page:
        https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/virtual-machine-scale-sets-vertical-scale-reprovision/

There is a link on the left for "Upgrades for scale sets". This link leads to a 404 (page not found).

The ability to upgrade scale sets is a key feature of them - please fix the link so we can talk to our customers about this.

        • Remove annoying pop up "is the page helpful"

On many documentation pages as soon as I open a new page, a popup appears
          ×Is this page helpful?Yes No

It is very annoying, because I didn't have a decision yet and it interrupts me from reading the page.

Could you please replace pop-up with static question at the bottom on page.
People will answer it, when they finish reading the page.

          • Some Korean (ko-kr) Azure document pages are wrongly displayed

            Hello,

First of all, thank you very much for opening docs.microsoft.com with lots of Azure related articles! Even Korean translations are so cooool!

Korean Azure contents are translated and shared into https://github.com/Azure/azure-content-kokr/ page (original: https://github.com/Azure/azure-content )

By the way, would you see those two pages?
            [1] https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/active-directory/active-directory-devquickstarts-dotnet
            [2] https://docs.microsoft.com/ko-kr/active-directory/active-directory-devquickstarts-dotnet

[1] is the original article, and [2] is the same article but translated into Korean. However, [2] is wrongly displayed.

Actually I don't know why it happened. On github repository, it seemed good. Is there some problems on parsing github content for translated pages? Hope that Korean translated pages will be…

            • Documentation how to create Azure components with common sinario.

Azure documentation includes how to create Azure components with common sinario.

Azure has a lot of components and this is a big advantage. But users don't know how to combine and there is no documentation how to combine different components (without IoTSuite). So personally I think Azure provides more document how customer creates and combine many Azure components.

If this documentation is provided, it makes more people familiar with Azure.

              • Allow Microsoft credentials for comments on documentation

I want to comment on this documentation: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/vpn-gateway-vnet-vnet-rm-ps/

But the only way to comment is to login under Disqus, Facebook, Twitter and Google. It's ridiculous you don't support your own authentication methods.

                • Add more metadata to every page of documentation

At present, documentation (whch is in the main pretty good and getting better) has little metadata. I see an artilce and don't know when it was written, or when it was updated.

What I would like to see on every page of documentration:
                  1. Date this copy was written
                  2. Regions to which this documentation applies (if not everywhere)
                  3. Last time the documentation was reviewed and found to be accurate.

I'd also like to see a change log - what changed and when. This needn't be massive - I just want to note that's new and what's not new!

The "DocumentDB limits and quotas" does not currently list the maximum document size - this forces users to try to find the last words on this (as it has changed) in blogs or on this very feedback forum.

                        • Clarify the information on Monthly Azure credit for Visual Studio Enterprise (BizSpark) subscribers

I have found contradicting information on this page

I am a BizSpark member and I am trying to establish whether the £95 of Azure credit per subscription for 5 developers in my team allows us to use those credits for Production.

The last paragraph of the Get Started section says:- "As a special BizSpark benefit, you can run both dev/test and production workloads with this offer."

But the Use Rights section near the bottom of the same page says:- "This benefit is for development and testing only. We reserve the right to suspend any instance (VM or cloud service)…

Imagine yourself packing your kitchen into boxes. Packing means literally “packing every small bit”. Imagine yourself picking up every spoon or bowl and setting it into a box in a manner that they do not go missing or loosen up while they are on the move. And what about all the delicate crockery in the kitchen? What about that expensive “Bone-China” set which you had brought after saving for months or that dining set which you got as a gift from your parents on your first wedding anniversary? How would you manage delicate packing without scratches or breakage? Do you…

                              • The Best Way to Enjoy Shifting

Who says shifting is boring and tedious? There is much more to do in it and you can enjoy your moving and shifting that way. The complexity of the situation lies on the way we think about it. If we consider shifting a boring and hectic task it may prove like that to us and if we feel enjoying in the task, we can actually enjoy in the same. The foremost thing needed for it is optimism in the task and yes patience too. A good planning and organization from your side would help you cope up with the move…

When referring to an Azure Web App .PublishSettings file, change the term from "publish profile" to "Publish Settings" (in all GUIs and major docs).

The .PublishSettings files are easily confused with the Visual Studio .pubxml files (also called "Publish Profiles"). I've seen many people trip over this.

                                  • Make it more explicit and clear the things we are paying for

Today even with the new portal, it is not clear what exactly is being charged. I'd like to see a separation in the "all resources" list for things that are billed and things that are free and required. The billing page shows me that it may take 2 days to display any information.

For example, I created a new VM, and it created a Cloud Service, a Virtual Network and a Storage Account. All these things appear in my "Free Trial" group, but I have no idea without looking at the price pages if those items are billable or just…

                                    • Mobile Services documentation should be more than simple example code.

The mobile services documentation is a bunch of implementation examples with detailed walkthroughs of how to add the service to your Azure account and simplistic example code with minimal explanation.

The mobile services documentation doesn't explain what Mobile Services is, what it can and (most importantly) can't do, how to choose between Mobile Services, Websites, and Cloud Services, etc.

                                      • Documentation for experienced cloud developers switching to Azure

All the documentation I have found for Azure - documents, videos, and webcasts on the Azure website and MSDN - assumes that I am a .net developer wanting to move my services to the cloud. There is no documentation appropriate to an experienced cloud developer (in my case 5 years of Java and PHP on AWS) looking at Azure as a potential platform.

For myself, information about the .net code architecture of services (mobile, web, etc) available on Azure and how to extend it would be particularly useful (what is "entity framework" for example).

                                        • Azure should publish document on how to automate the workflows.

Azure documentation should include the code snippets to automation. The certification prep has more details then azure website
