SQL Database

  1. Increase the SQL pool size to 4TB in 500eDTU

    We have less number of customers and they want to keep 10 years of data. So we need more storage space than the performance. Please give an option to increase the storage to 4TB in 500 eDTU in premium tier

    Thank you.

  2. Provide notifications when restoring an Azure SQL database

    I've been using the portal this morning to restore a Azure SQL database and there's no indication of progress. I'd expect something to pop up in the notification area saying when it's started and completed, ideally with an estimated time.

  3. make harder to delete resources on azure portal

    Clicking "Delete" on pinned SQL Database in the Azure Portal Dashboard doesn't ask for confirmation. This should be fixed. Also, two-factor authentication for delete actions would be perfect.

  6. Suggestions for Azure SQL DB

    Azure SQL should support SMX compression on NIC's HW level, so that it can reduce the traffic over network and reduce latency. also it should support table partition feature

  7. Provide the ability to block unencrypted databases (Transparent Data Encryption = disabled) with ARM policies.

    Provide the ability to block unencrypted databases (Transparent Data Encryption = disabled) with ARM policies.

    This is currently not possible and I have been advised by the product team to request the feature here.

    The reason this will be helpful is so secure environments where data encryption is a requirement.

    Thank you.

  8. Replicate the logins to secondary replica in failover group in Azure SQL Database.

    We used to have sphelprevlogins script in onpremises which used to help us in migrating the logins and passwords of SQL server to another instance. Coming to Azure SQL Database, where we have N number of logins we are unable to create the sphelprevlogins stored procedure in master database in order to fetch the logins data. As it is the logical master and not the actual master. Hence, we do not have the write permissions to it. It would be great it this logins and user migration can enabled which would help us to configure failover…

  10. sync to another database - pull tables for schema despite errors for initial setup

    if there are errors in schema of member db on initial setup, it will not load tables and you have to run a separate powershell to find out what issues are.
    1. log messages don't cut and paste - log needs to be able to cut and paste for easy support and reading of errors.
    2. tables should just not return for the whole database. You should allow tables to show if they don't have errors and grey out or highlight tables with errors.

    Often tables with errors aren't even considered for sync and not needed anyway.

  11. zone

    Allow zone redundancy to be available for DTU pricing model when DB size is greater than 1TB. The only recourse we have when a DTU DB needs to be bumped past 1TB is to switch it to vCore, and that is not always the direction we want to take.

  12. JSON_MODIFY results in unexpected JSON for some nested object scenario

    Azure SQL Database, Compatibility Level 13

    Goal: Change from:

    { "a": { "Q" : "x", "R" : "y" } }

    into

    { "b" : { "q1": "x", "r1": "y" }, "a" : {} }

    using nested/chained JSON_MODIFY calls.

    However, this seems to lead to unexpected/incorrect results depending on the order of the JSON_MODIFY calls when chained:

    Repro:

    DECLARE @Json NVARCHAR(max) = '{"a":{"Q":"x","R":"y"}}'

    -- Results in unexpected/incorrect result: {"a":{"r1":"y"}}
    SELECT JSONMODIFY(JSONMODIFY(JSONMODIFY(JSONMODIFY(JSON_MODIFY(@Json,

            '$.b', JSON_QUERY('{}')),

    '$.b.q1', 'x'),
    '$.b.r1', 'y'),
    '$.a.Q', NULL),
    '$.a.R', NULL)

    -- Changing the sequence so the "deletes" are first appears to be a workaround:
    -- Deletes…

  14. bacpac

    Restoring BAK instead of BACPAC file by mistake does not error out and takes hours. Suggest to add file format validation logic at the SQL DB import layer.

  15. Need to be able to see % complete of a COPY

    We had a COPY take an unusually long time during a go-live ( of course ). It was frustrating that we had no way to tell how the copy was proceeding. The view sys.dmoperationstatus is only good for seeing that there is a copy in progress, but it does not provide any other useful information.

    Therefore, we need this view to be more useful AND/OR be able to see 'in progress COPY info' in the portal. The activity log is useless for this - it only shows the start.

  17. Deleting Azure SQL VNETs

    Deleting Azure SQL DB VNETs via the Azure portal is broken.

    Even as an admin we always get error code 404 The subscription cannot be found (across any subscription). The way to remove them is via "az sql server vnet-rule delete " via Azure command line. Please fix because it is a basic functionality needed via the portal.

  18. Per server DTU bundles

    Can we get a server with fixed DTUs and be billed on the per server DTU rather than for each individual database? This is useful when migrating from on-premise + when I want to manage the per database DTU by myself or I just don't want to care about the per database DTU.

    Elastic pool based on the server!

  19. Bigger free SQL DB

    I suggest you to increase free space for sql DB. MongoLab currently gives 500MB for free and this encourages me to choose this database to verify me application. I'd rather choose SQL DB but it's too small for my startup. If my startup succeed it's too late to change database.

  20. data sync query performance on SQLServer Express 2019

    I'm trying to use SQL Data Sync with local SQLServer Express 2019 and after the first sync the local db is spinning on a query about Adapters that is taking 53 seconds or more and it seems to never end and just spins cpu.
