How can we improve Azure SQL Database?

Change Data Capture

Allow Change Data Capture in SQL Azure

It has been available in SQL server since 2008, the jump to SQL Azure seems logical.

        Thanks for the reply.

It's imperative you understand that this is NOT a solution. Azure Managed SQL is not Azure SQL.

It's unreasonable to expect people to migrate from Azure SQL to Azure Managed SQL just to get change data capture, separate from the fact that migrating from Azure SQL to Azure Managed SQL is a backwards migration path.

We are building an enterprise application in Azure and CDC is an essential part of our solution. Must we really build out own solution when you have the capabilities built in to SQL Server already. I've used CDC and it is great but it does no good to our organization if it is not implemented into Azure soon. What is the ETA on this feature?

We also need this! Is there any plan to release CDC (not change tracking) in Azure soon?

It's been 2 years since this question was asked. Can we please get an update or roadmap for Change Data Capture in Azure SQL (NOT Change Tracking now, we're asking about CDC here)..

This would be a great feature to allow for improved Kafka integration with Azure SQL. Change Tracking isn't sufficient for many scenarios

I don't understand why the Principal Product Planner would be confused about the difference between Change Tracking and Change Data Capture. We need the functionality of CDC. Change Tracking is not CDC.

Do you consider MS SSIS to be CDC? It is available. However, we are just implementing IBM IIDR and it is my understanding that SSIS is not great. MS is building up Azure at a tremendous rate so wouldn't be surprised to see it up and running. Maybe the Azure team can provide roadmap for CDC Azure?

Change Tracking (CT) is inadequate for our needs. We need Change Data Capture (CDC), for reasons outlined in other posts.

Change Data Capture is now available on SQL 2016 Express (!!) but not yet on SQL Azure? Really? My client's whole "go to the cloud" db strategy was based on assumption that Axure was feature-equivalent (or better) than an free on-prem version .. please tell me its coming soon ?

We will have many Microservice databases in SQL Azure. Because of the number of databases querying to find changes for any Data warehouse needs is not feasible. We need to method of implementing Change Data Capture with Azure SQL Database.

Our web-based application will have a user data upload feature, and we need to enable rollbacks on all uploads. The historical data of Change Data Capture is essential to allow us to return data to a prior state...Change Tracking won't cut it. C'mon, let's get this in there! You're already charging Azure SQL users for DTUs, this won't impact your bottom line.

We are considering Azure largely because of the expense of continuing to license on-prem enterprise. CDC is one of the features that we use that keeps us on enterprise. We can not move to Azure unless this feature is available.
