  2. Suggestions for Azure SQL DB

    Azure SQL should support SMX compression on NIC's HW level, so that it can reduce the traffic over network and reduce latency. also it should support table partition feature

  3. Provide the ability to block unencrypted databases (Transparent Data Encryption = disabled) with ARM policies.

    Provide the ability to block unencrypted databases (Transparent Data Encryption = disabled) with ARM policies.

    This is currently not possible and I have been advised by the product team to request the feature here.

    The reason this will be helpful is so secure environments where data encryption is a requirement.

    Thank you.

  4. Replicate the logins to secondary replica in failover group in Azure SQL Database.

    We used to have sp_help_revlogins script in onpremises which used to help us in migrating the logins and passwords of SQL server to another instance. Coming to Azure SQL Database, where we have N number of logins we are unable to create the sp_help_revlogins stored procedure in master database in order to fetch the logins data. As it is the logical master and not the actual master. Hence, we do not have the write permissions to it. It would be great it this logins and user migration can enabled which would help us to configure failover groups and migration seamlessly.

  6. JSON_MODIFY results in unexpected JSON for some nested object scenario

    Azure SQL Database, Compatibility Level 13

    Goal: Change from:

    { "a": { "Q" : "x", "R" : "y" } }

    into

    { "b" : { "q1": "x", "r1": "y" }, "a" : {} }

    using nested/chained JSON_MODIFY calls.

    However, this seems to lead to unexpected/incorrect results depending on the order of the JSON_MODIFY calls when chained:

    Repro:

    DECLARE @Json NVARCHAR(max) = '{"a":{"Q":"x","R":"y"}}'

    -- Results in unexpected/incorrect result: {"a":{"r1":"y"}}
    SELECT JSON_MODIFY(JSON_MODIFY(JSON_MODIFY(JSON_MODIFY(JSON_MODIFY(@Json,
    '$.b', JSON_QUERY('{}')),
    '$.b.q1', 'x'),
    '$.b.r1', 'y'),
    '$.a.Q', NULL),
    '$.a.R', NULL)

    -- Changing the sequence so the "deletes" are first appears to be a workaround:
    -- Deletes first, results correct: {"a":{},"b":{"q1":"x","r1":"y"}} …

  8. bacpac

    Restoring BAK instead of BACPAC file by mistake does not error out and takes hours. Suggest to add file format validation logic at the SQL DB import layer.

  9. Need to be able to see % complete of a COPY

    We had a COPY take an unusually long time during a go-live ( of course ). It was frustrating that we had no way to tell how the copy was proceeding. The view sys.dm_operation_status is only good for seeing that there is a copy in progress, but it does not provide any other useful information.

    Therefore, we need this view to be more useful AND/OR be able to see 'in progress COPY info' in the portal. The activity log is useless for this - it only shows the start.

  11. Deleting Azure SQL VNETs

    Deleting Azure SQL DB VNETs via the Azure portal is broken.

    Even as an admin we always get error code 404 The subscription cannot be found (across any subscription). The way to remove them is via "az sql server vnet-rule delete " via Azure command line. Please fix because it is a basic functionality needed via the portal.

  12. Per server DTU bundles

    Can we get a server with fixed DTUs and be billed on the per server DTU rather than for each individual database? This is useful when migrating from on-premise + when I want to manage the per database DTU by myself or I just don't want to care about the per database DTU.

    Elastic pool based on the server!

  13. Bigger free SQL DB

    I suggest you to increase free space for sql DB. MongoLab currently gives 500MB for free and this encourages me to choose this database to verify me application. I'd rather choose SQL DB but it's too small for my startup. If my startup succeed it's too late to change database.

  15. Report database integrity error

    Currently a DB integrity check failure is detected only by MSFT and reported to the owner of the DB.
    Suggestions:
    1. Report immediately the error on the Azure portal.
    2. Allow other Accounts beside the "serveradmin" to execute DBCC CHECKDB thru Elastic jobs/Automation/remote execution
    3. Have SCOM integrated in order to raise an alert when such even occur so owner support team is alerted without delays.

  16. Printing documentation pages from Edge, Firefox, and Chrome is still broke!

    In Edge only the first page is formatted for printing. All the rest of the pages are gone. In Chrome, Edge, and Firefox a bunch of characters on the right are truncated. In order to get them on the printed page one has to use such a tiny font that the pages are really hard to read. Before you made these changes a couple weeks ago, the printed pages in all these browsers were of top quality. Now they are largely unuseable!! This will drive Azure customers away, while before the high quality of your printed pages were a big…

  17. Fix inaccurate tooltip on ssms tab after Change Connection

    In SSMS 2016, the tooltip or balloon on a given tab is not updated if you right-click and select the "Connection | Change Connection" menu option, moving to a different database server.

  18. Easy Alerting on Database Size

    Our small 1GB SQL Azure database recently reached its size limit which affected our web site and services. I'm astounded that there is no easy way within the Azure Portal or management UX to quickly and easily setup alerting on the size limit -- especially considering the impact that not being able to write to our database has had on our website and services.

    Placing some easy alerting on database size within the Azure Portal or management UX would also provide a great place to upsell other monitoring services for SQL Azure.
