  2. Enable creation of MDS databases and Stretch databases in Azure SQL Database serverless

It is a very common business scenario the data present in tables in
Stretch databases is uploaded and accessed periodically,
thus making it a great candidate to be hosted in Azure SQL Database serverless. That way the current model costs, with min 100 DSU, can be avoided.

Following the same idea as the general Azure SQL Database serverless, the MDS databases are rarely accessed out of the businesses working hours. So having them in Azure SQL first, and even better as Serverless, since predictable pattern of absence of processing power is applicable, will be beneficial.

  3. data sync query performance on SQLServer Express 2019

I'm trying to use SQL Data Sync with local SQLServer Express 2019 and after the first sync the local db is spinning on a query about Adapters that is taking 53 seconds or more and it seems to never end and just spins cpu.

  6. Build SSDT Data Project for Azure SQL Database Fails on CREATE MASTER KEY

When adding a master encryption key for an Azure SQL Database project that will use external datasources, Visual Studio 2019 has a parsing error on the CREATE MASTER KEY ENCRYPTION statement. (SQL70015: Statement 'CREATE MASTER KEY' is not supported for the targeted platform). This statement is perfectly valid for Azure SQL Databases and is actually required to use credentials that have a stored secret.

  7. Rename Server SA Account

I would like to be able to rename Server SA account. Currently, the only way to do this is by server rebuild.

    Thank You!

  8. A syntax error occurs when you execute an elastic query on Azure SQL Database.

A syntax error occurs when you execute the elastic query where 'default' string is set to search condition as below on Azure SQL Database.

    Query :
    select * from tab1 where col1= 'default';

    Error :
    Error retrieving data from xxxx.database.windows.net.xxxx.
The underlying error message received was: 'Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'DEFAULT'.'.

As long as I looked into this, I found that this elastic query was converted in internal logic on Azure SQL Database Engine before execution and 'default' string was changed to DEFAULT keyword. That's why the syntax error occurred.

    SELECT [T11].[col1] AS [col1]
    FROM (SELECT [T21].[col1] AS [col1]

  10. Disable Point-In-Time-Retention (PITR)

Allow the user the ability to completely disable PITR for database/pools. This would allow users to prevent having additional storage costs for database that don't have a PITR need (i.e. QA database)

  11. Single & Elastic Databases - Support for "pausing" active geo-replication

Let's say I have a SQL server w/ a single database. I can setup a corresponding geo-replicated database in a different region quite easily. My question is about "pausing" geo-replication for a while. As of today, I can stop the replication using the ALTER statement. But I cannot add the replication back w/ an ALTER statement, unless I drop the database altogether. So it would be great to have the ability to "pause" or "un-pause" a geo-replication with the help of API's.

The use case is during database upgrades. Roughly I wanted to accomplish this.

  12. Management connectivity from Azure via separate nic

We use ExpressRoute and do not allow public IP's in our VNets. This causes a problem when it comes to deploying SQL Managed instance, as we need to allow inbound connectivity on ports 9000, 9003, 1438, 1440, 1452. Could it not be arranged for this connectivity to happen via a separate network unseen to the consumer so that no inbound firewall rules are required?

  13. Enable to control the timing of LTR backup

Our customers would like to configure the timing of LTR backups or manually create a LTR backup to restore the several databases from the exact same time.

  14. Linux version of SQL Data Sync

Hi, is there a Linux version of "SQL Data Sync" in the works?
We plan on using this tool to keep a cloud DB in sync with a subset of it deployed to an Azure IoT Edge device, running Ubuntu 18.04. We are currently investigating the preview of "SQL Database Edge", which only runs as a Linux image for the moment.
Ideally, we would like to be able to deploy a single edge device at a customer plant. If we build everything for Linux images, it would feel odd to have to ask them to provide an additional Windows system…

  15. Ability to export Azure SQL Performance Recommendations

Our production Azure SQL does not allow developers to access (segregation of duties and security considerations). However, we want to share developers with Azure SQL performance recommendations so that they can improve the product logic.

It seems Azure SQL Contributor permission is required for developers to review the details. If can allow export the recommendations, it could be performed automatically, then it will be very helpful.

I guess other organizations could have similar challenges?

  16. Restored DBs in elastic pool goes to standard

    Steps to reproduce.

Delete a DB that in an elastic pool.
Recover the DB from deleted DB and use the latest PITR backup available.
The restored DB doesnt go back to the original elastic pool but rather gets created as "Standard S0: 10 DTUs"
    Is this the expected behaviour.

  17. Build SSDT Database Project for Azure SQL Database Fails with AAD Users

When adding an AAD user to a database project of type Azure SQL Database, the build fails with incorrect syntax on "FROM EXTERNAL PROVIDER", even when trying to add the uses in a post deployment script. However if the type is changed to Azure SQL Database Managed Instance, the project builds correctly.

  18. Fix Azure SQL Powershell modules to support Gen5 Serverless machine types.

Currently Set-AzureSqlDatabase don't support "serverless" at all and New-AzureRmSqlDatabaseCopy don't support Serverless server types if you want "change" server type during copy operation.
    Only New-AzureRmSqlDatabaseimport supports those.

  19. Can't change database when logged in with "Active Directory Universal with MFA Support"

When logged in to Azure SQL db using AAD with MFA option, I am unable to change databases via the database drop-down Listbox, even though the list is populated with the databases. Also, the "Change Connection" button on the "SQL Editor" toolbar is disabled. The Error received is:

"TITLE: An error occurred while changing the current database.
USE statement is not supported to switch between databases. Use a new connection to connect to a different database."

HOWEVER, when logging in to the same Azure SQL db using AAD-Password, I AM able to change database via the drop-down Listbox and the…

  20. Gen5 effectively doubles the costs for some customers

With the phasing out of Gen4, Microsoft is effectively forcing a 2x+ price increase on some SQL Azure customers.

We heavily use EDPs with Gen4 vCore based pricing. Our typical config is 1.5TB pools with 3 Gen4 vCores at a cost of around $750/month. Our CPU usage is minimal, but our pools are fairly large in terms of storage requirements.

The same 1.5TB storage allocation for a Gen5 pool requires 6 vCores and costs nearly $1400/month. As our pools have <10% CPU at any given time, this is effectively doubling our costs with no benefit.

    It's even worse when you…
