Thanks for your feedback! We are planning to add support for Server Core installations. We’re not taking any dependencies in the Azure File Sync agent on Full-only features, so supporting Core should be relatively straight-forward, however we do have two small dependencies to unwind. First, we have a dependency on the AzureRM PowerShell module, which right now requires Internet Explorer to be installed (which obviously is not available on Core). Second, we are working to make sure our installer is completely configurable from in an unattended mode.

Please continue to vote for this item to help us prioritize (and to help the AzureRM team have the evidence to support Windows Server Core).

    • improve download reliability for exporting VHD's from unmanaged disks

When recently trying to backup our test environment VM's from Azure, we ran into issues exporting VHD's from unmanaged disks, which only allowed us to export and download the VHD using an HTTP URL. The download would fail sometimes only seconds into the download, and other times a half hour or so in, but at 2 MB/second, the TTL on the URL would usually expire before we could re-initiate the download, and due to frequency makes it impractical to use. After working with support, they advised we can move the data from an unmanaged disk to a managed one and…

Thank you for your feedback! We working to provide this functionality through the Azure Backup offering. They are currently testing this functionality in a private preview, and are going to be entering a public preview soon. I will update this feedback item as soon as this is released.

        • Appliance for Azure File Sync

I want to use File Server for Azure File Sync with cloud tiering with low-operations to start.
The File Server need IP, Name with Active Directory Join at on-premise.
and Azure Portal can add the File Server to Azure File Sync.
The File Server OS may use Server Core of Windows Server.
So, It may start as File Server within 5 minutes.

          No RAID, No Backup,
Low CPU, Low Memory, Low Storage, Low Operations

I hope to the appliance for Azure File Sync.

We definitely think it makes sense to have a pre-configured “appliance” that you can use with Azure Files/Azure File Sync. I see this taking two separate forms: 1) better integration between Windows Server and Azure File Sync, so it’s easier to setup and manage a cloud-connected file share; 2) partner solutions/appliances which work well with Azure File Sync. Other than say it’s something we’re looking into, I don’t have more to share at this time.

Please continue to vote for this item if this is something you wish to see! This will help us get this work item committed and underway!

          • Support multiple storage accounts in Azure Storage Emulator

The Azure Storage Emulator only supports a single fixed account (devstoreaccount1).

This makes integration testing and development on the same machine a pain, as we would like to be able to clear the integration testing account entirely before and after each test sequence, without removing development data.

The connection string to the new account could use the extended syntax (see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/storage/common/storage-use-emulator#authenticating-requests-against-the-storage-emulator - not "UseDevelopmentStorage=true"), with the same account key but a different account name, and if need be, different ports for blob/table/queue endpoints.

            • Enhance Azure Files / Azure File Sync to include document icons

In Azure Files (specifically with Azure File Sync), it would enhance the user experience if the document icons would show what we're used to on a File Server vs the generic icons.

              • Provision Managed OS Disks without VM Shell from Generalized Image

Currently, the only way to create an OS Disk from a generalized image is by creating it at the same time as a VM shell.

The ability to spin up Managed Disks without attaching them to a VM from a generalized image would be incredibly useful and allow for dynamic resizing of disks via ARM templates without affecting the VM itself.

                • Mananged disk export directly to storageaccount instead of creating URL

It is not yet supported to directly migrate a managed VM from one subscription to another.
It would be nice to have export directly to a storage account instead of creating an URL.
It will just make migration so much easier and more secure, than having an URL, that is public accessable..
                  kind regards

                  • Azure Backup of single drives of a VM in Azure

It would be nice if I could select drives to have a backup of with Azure backup of VMs in Azure.
Example: Fairly large VM with SQL2012 or newer installed.
That way I could let Azure backup handle OS and let SQL do backup directly to storage account and have SQL handle retention etc..
This will also allow to differentiate between retention for OS and for SQL data.

                    • AzCopy /SetContentType should also tag *.json

Currently, AzCopy tag *.js and *.css (and a few more) with an empty /SetContentType. It should also tag *.json as application/json.

                      • Improve Perfromance when /xo is used as it takes longer time when there are more source folders.

Add more filters with AzCopy such as Date filters, etc. so that it will help in improving the performance when /xo is used. As currently it needs to scan through all the source files and in case more filters are added the time to use source files would be reduce.

                          • automatically save back to the file share

since we cannot map to file shares because Comcast blocks 445 it would be nice if when using the storage explorer for opening files they would automatically save back to the file share instead of the local drive. It is not really a file "share" if the changes are only locally stored and the user then has to take another step to upload which they will most likely never do.

                            • Suggest adding a source data timestamp parameter to set as the copy point in time for AzCopy operations.

Adding a /SourceDataTimeStamp parameter would allow for the ability to only copy data that is at that timestamp or earlier from the source data to the destination. For example, I have many tables and blobs that tie to each other. When I back them all up in a live hosted system, it would be great to say "AzCopy, copy all table and blob data from 2017.09.02 and earlier to another location". This would ensure that if I later restored from that time point, all the data would be be linked up properly.

                                Hello,
my Storage Explorer on Linux stopped working. It was working some days, now the following message appears when I want to start it:

A problem caused Storage Explorer to stop working correctly (the GPU process crashed). Please close and restart the application.

                                Reinstalling does not change anything.
Also I'm not able to emulate the Windows version in Wine.

I'm wondering how I should access my blob storage now.
                                Is there a web interface?

                                Kind regards,

                                • encrypt backup of managed disks

We have managed disks encrypted at rest with SSE, but the backups to recovery vault of those VMs are not encrypted at rest. This is a security issue for us.

A native feature for this would be great to get rid of the workaround to encrypt those with external tools (BitLocker, dm-crypt,..)

Add alerts for storage account usage, user should be able to set an alert for say 500GB usage.

                                    Thanks

                                    • Manage SAS Token by Name and Include in Audit Logs

Give SAS tokens a name when generating then:
                                      - allow report/table of all generated token
                                      - allow revoke of exisiting token (or modification of access)
                                      - use the SAS token name in storage audit logs

At the moment, the storage access logs do not show any useful information about who has made access, and this is critical to a practical audit function.

Thank you for your feedback. Currently you can use a stored access policy to manage revocation of an existing token. You are also able to track requests made using an existing stored access policy in the storage account logs. See https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/storage/common/storage-dotnet-shared-access-signature-part-1#controlling-a-sas-with-a-stored-access-policy for more details. For any further questions, or to discuss your specific scenario, send us an email at azurestoragefeedback@microsoft.com.

                                      • Provide ability to limit the size of the payload being uploaded to a blob storage using a sas token

Currently there are only handful of limitations one can associate with a SAS token generated for Azure Storage Blob. Those are time period, access type, IP address filtering as well as protocol. It would be great to add a new option to limit the amount of data which can be uploaded to the storage.

Thank you for your feedback! In this case, the reason why an Azure file share cannot be mounted on FreeBSD is because of the SMB support provided in the OS distribution rather than a limitation we have on the Azure Files service side. That said, we have contributed to Linux to support SMB 3.0 with encryption in the past, so we would like to investigate how to make Azure Files work on FreeBSD as well.
