Storage

How can we improve Azure Storage?

  1. Allow monitoring and alerting for IOpS consumption for Storage Accounts and individual BLOBS

Allow monitoring and alerting for IOpS consumption for Storage Accounts and individual BLOBS.

There are capacity limits in Azure for these items but no meaningful way to measure them.

We now offer a “Usage” blade that allows you to view capacity for the blob portion of a Storage account. We also offer alert rules for blob capacity and total requests as well. There are no plans to extend this to individual blobs at this time, but this is something we will look into periodically. Thanks for your feedback!

  2. Access Denied when Storage Firewall in place

When a storage account firewall to only allow access to selected networks are in place, access is denied when trying to view the services in the storage account from places outside of the allowed network. This is expected according to document but we would like to know whether there can be improvement.
Is it possible that an additional option to grant certain login ID’s permission to the object, regardless of where users login from?
    Thanks.

  3. cache

In the portal I want to be able to set (or at least see) http headers like "Cache-Control" at blob containers. We had an issue with CDN not caching images from blob when Cache-Control was not set to public.

  4. Ability to sort entries in storage account. It is currently not possible to sort entries in the storage account.

It is currently not possible to sort entries in the storage container. Always the last entry is shown first ans you must every time scroll down and click to Show the next page. It would be better to Show the last entry at first

  5. Improvements to meter names

In August 2018 Microsoft did something called improving meter names. Now we cannot identify Geo redundant storage and Locally redundant storage in Meter Sub-Category column anymore. We see blanks for these categories. Keep changing headings and presentation of billing data is effecting customes. It takes significant amount of time to change scripts and other measures when you do such changes without informing customers.

  6. clone button for storage as we have for web apps

for some data services we have native copy-clone mechanisms- for sql database it's Active Georeplication.
If I will need to deploy my app in another region/datacenter - I will need to manually copy all containers and objects (using Datafactory or azcopy). GRS- it's not a solution, because I can't sync my data between West US and North Europe, but Active Georeplication- can do that.

For Web App- we did "clone button" and in web site will be provisioned in another datacenter I choose.

It would be great if you will create the same button for storage accounts and content in…

  7. to remove 'Delete container' button from container view

My bad experience says that it's very confusing to present 'Delete container' button (option) on the panel inside the container view.

On attached screenshot you can see the situation.

    My user experience here is:
    - if any copy/delete/upload/move operations are presented as options (buttons) - they are going to be applied to selected items. NOT a container itself. So my eye is eager to catch any button with garbage can icon and title started with "Delete ..." - to delete selected items
    - When I'm in a container view as on screenshot and there are tons of blobs inside this…

  9. Exploring Storage in the preview portal

Perhaps I am missing something but it looks like there could be some circular logic as I explore storage I can explore more storage and loop around to the storage I am exploring.

That and I cannot seem to explore into containers just at the root. So what is inside the containers does not appear to be surfaced.

If i want to see the last page in Storage > ... > Containers i have to click "next" 30 times.
Please add an "go to last page" or so i can write a number to go to.

  13. Display billing of each service

Storage consists of many services. It would be good to show each service billing in order to organize asset allocation precisely.

In example, page blob has 'billable size' along with its file size and blob has transaction cost. These matters could be included in usage metrics.

Currently, only 'Capacity: 5.0TB' data hasn't give much information.
