  1. SFTP (and FTPS) protocol support for Azure storage

Exposing the SFTP protocol for Azure Files or Azure Blob storage would facilitate a bunch of scenarios where today 2 VMs (with all the management overhead that implies) are required.

  2. Support HTTP/2 and SPDY

With all the major browsers behind http/2 and deployed spdy/3 (chrome/ff/IE11) please implement this for Azure Storage

  3. See total size used by container/share and by storage account

We have multiple storage accounts each with blobs and other objects. The dashboards should show the total disk usage at every level: across all storage accounts, when clicking on a blob, the total for each folder, etc. Right now, one needs to get to the individual file level to see the size and manually sum it up.

  4. Support deduplication of Azure storage objects (blobs and files)

Add support for deduplication of files stored in Azure Files to save storage space (cost). General file savings are about 50% when using deduplication in Windows Server

  5. Enable multiple custom domains for storage accounts

I would like to register 2 or more custom domains to point to 1 storage account.

For example, foo.com, bar.com both point to blob.etc.windows.net

  6. HTTP compression support for Azure Storage Services (via Accept-Encoding/Content-Encoding fields)

Add support for 'Accept-Encoding' and 'Content-Encoding' fields in the HTTP request in Azure Storage Services with supported compression schemes gzip and deflate. This should helps reduce network payload by 10x-50x in some cases like saving/loading bulk records to Azure Table Storage.

  7. Make it possible to send Storage Analytics ($logs) to Log analytics

Currently Storage accounts can generate detailed logs which are stored under $logs in the storage account. But it is not possible to link this to Log Analytics. This functionality would enable monitoring data access, which is sometimes a regulatory requirement.

  8. Blob Life cycle management for page blobs

Provide life cycle management feature for Page blobs too similar to the block blob.
Currently SQL server 2014 or older version support backing up data to page blobs only. Hence it would be good to have the page blob life cycle management policy on it. This will help in managing the deletion of page blobs on a timely basis.

  9. Scale to Premium Storage from standard Storage

Please allow us to switch from Standard Storage to Premium Storage and the other way around. Or at least provide us with the option to scale up from Standard Storage to Premium Storage (one way).

The current process involves stopping the affected VM, copying the disk using AzCopy and recreating the VM in the new storage account.
I'm pretty sure Micorosft's team can take care of this process behind the scenes and just provide us with a user interface option and/or an API method.

Currently we have multiple VMs (about 20+) running on standard storage that need to be upgraded…

  10. Microsoft Teams integration

It would be great to see Azure storage (blob and/or Files) as a data source for Microsoft Teams.

  11. Manage SAS Token by Name and Include in Audit Logs

Give SAS tokens a name when generating then:
    - allow report/table of all generated token
    - allow revoke of exisiting token (or modification of access)
    - use the SAS token name in storage audit logs

At the moment, the storage access logs do not show any useful information about who has made access, and this is critical to a practical audit function.

Thank you for your feedback. Currently you can use a stored access policy to manage revocation of an existing token. You are also able to track requests made using an existing stored access policy in the storage account logs. See https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/storage/common/storage-dotnet-shared-access-signature-part-1#controlling-a-sas-with-a-stored-access-policy for more details. For any further questions, or to discuss your specific scenario, send us an email at azurestoragefeedback@microsoft.com.

  12. storage stamp option

Provide the option to define storage accounts to use the same of different storage stamps. we have scenarios where the ability to define same or different stamps make an huge impact in the end result.

  13. virus checking/scanning mechanism for azure storage on file upload. Possibly optional for improved performance(bound to container).

It would be nice to have an integrated virus checking/scanning mechanism on Azure storage without having to rely on 3rd party software.

  14. Allow internal access to a storage account in any regions from any Microsoft.Storage service endpoint without needing public internet access

Currently Microsoft has confirmed to me that it is only possible to access storage accounts hosted in a specific location from an Azure VM via the Microsoft.Storage service endpoint without internet access but only if the VM is located in either the primary or secondary (backup replication site) storage account location.

For example, if I create a blob container in US East 2 (secondary replication location: Central US) I will be able to access a blob (ex. https://someblobname.blob.core.windows.net/somefolder/someblob.txt) from a US East 2 or Central US VM via the storage service endpoint attached to the VMs VNet. However, I…

  15. Pass SAS Token in Authorization header

It should be possible to pass a SAS Token in the Authorization header when accessing Azure Storage resources. It's more a secure and generally better design than passing SAS token as an URI parameter.

Currently (see linked docs for ref) when using SAS Token it have to be passed in the URI as a parameter.

I think such approach is less secure insecure: even when using HTTPS URI parameter is possible to be intercepted:
    - server can save it in request log
    - browser can save it in browsing history and it's possible to read it from history - by…

  16. Allow CORS rules to be applied via ARM template

There is currently no support for CORS rules in Azure Resource Manager templates for storage accounts.

  17. Remove or dramatically increase the max number of stored access policies per container, file share, table, or queue

Today the maximum policy you can have is 5. This is way to low as we are using blob storage in a data sharing scenario between providers and consumers and we need to use policies to be able to revoke issued SAS tokens in this sharing scenario. 5 policies means that we can only control 5 SAS keys that can be revoked. We need a lot more.

  19. Add x-ms- request headers in Shared Access Signatures URI

As SAS is defined as a URI that grants restricted access rights to Azure Storage resources. I think it will be helpful to add custom headers to the URI. For example, the request for Put Blob could be https://...&...&x-ms-blob-type=BlockBlob. In this way, we can set what we need in the URI and just focus on it.
