Support Azure File Sync integration with NAS devices
It would be useful to integrate with on-premises NAS devices such as Synology, NetApp, etc. Customers often have existing devices in offices that could be leveraged as front-ends for Azure Files through Azure File Sync, and NAS devices can be an affordable option for smaller businesses.

Is there an update if this was considered? I am currently doing a POC with this goal.
PLEASE MAKE THIS HAPPEN!!!!!!
A lot of small businesses making the transition to the cloud would like to take some of their existing hardware like a NAS from Synology and be able to sync it without having an on-premises server. Kind of like an Azure Ad join but for Synology.

Azure FIle Sync/Cloud tiering could help those customers who have invested in NetApp appliance. Using this service we can offload the non-frequently data to the cloud and optimize the storage capacity as well as make this appliance Scalable.
Are there any plans to extend FileSync to include syncing with network-attached storage ? it would be an ideal option for many enterprises.

I Love this idea!!
If possible, this server is a VHD-based image and can be easily deployed.
Please do not need a CAL license .

Currently the only option for the storage layer is an Azure Storage Account. I'd like to be able to connect File Sync to a different storage option such as NetApp ONTAP.
we have over 200TB of file on cifs shares. at present we cant use the AFS so support for this would have me in the cloud in weeks (with AD ACL support)
We need to seamlessly migrate TBs of data that are currently housed on a NAS.
If Azure File Sync supported pointing a Server Endpoint at a NAS share we could do this to facilitate a cutover migration for our client devices.

It would be great if we weren't limited to directly attached storage in AFS. Adding remotely mapped drives would be very useful. (I cant find any docs on iSCSI but the docs do say remote mapped shares are not allowed at present
I want to use Azure File Sync on easy/small server.
no-RAID, less-storage, less-price, less-install, less ITpro,
and order at Online store, or order at PC shop,
and starting Azure Files within few minutes.
I hope a appliance for using Azure Files Storage with Azure File Sync.
Buy it Online, Get it, Use it,
for Azure Files Storage with Azure File Sync without IT pro.
Currently, I need to select server, get IT operator, setup server, install Windows Server, ...
It take some day, or more for use File Server with Azure Files Storage / Azure File Sync.
and Currently, a lot of File Server appliance on Market place, which can easy setup operations with easy manual for no-IT pro.
I want to use File Server for Azure File Sync with cloud tiering with low-operations to start.
The File Server need IP, Name with Active Directory Join at on-premise.
and Azure Portal can add the File Server to Azure File Sync.
The File Server OS may use Server Core of Windows Server.
So, It may start as File Server within 5 minutes.
No RAID, No Backup,
Low CPU, Low Memory, Low Storage, Low Operations
I hope to the appliance for Azure File Sync.
