Add Cold and Archive tiers to Azure Files
Azure Files should have Cold and Archive tiers, similar to Blobs.
Though ideally, it would be great to have a single file share that has all three tiers (hot, cold, archive) available and simply uses rules to shift the files around on the physical storage.
The rules could be as simple as declaring a specific folder to be "cold", or could be based on file attributes (created, last accessed, etc).
Well, Azure seems to now have at least a "cool" Files Storage tier : "Cool file shares offer cost-efficient storage optimized for online archive storage scenarios. Cool file shares are offered on the standard storage hardware backed by HDDs."
This would be a great addition.

I have the same problem, I have developed a script in powershell that is launched by an automation account to move the files to blob storage based on the modification date, having it in blob storage I can use the life cycle management, but this It should be more direct.
It is really very expensive if you have a huge file file archive. For 10 year old files, it is not logical to use hot storage as said AWS has solutions for that..

Noticed Azure Files is pretty pricey compared to AWS' solution, mostly due to the lacking cool tier support!
Huge plus one here!
Adding lifecycle management to Azure Files would make it a killer service indeed. We're looking at implementing Azure Files now but I'm just learning that Lifecycle management is only at the Blob level.
