How can we improve Azure Storage?

Allow cloud tiering for Azure File Sync based on other attributes

In preview for Azure File Sync, there is only a simple tiering policy: volume free space percentage. When enabled, it tiers based on a "heat map" formula, which looks at last modified and last accessed. It would be helpful to allow tiering directly based on one or more attributes like last modified, last accessed, creation date, or file type.

    Hi folks,

Starting with version 4 of the Azure File Sync agent, we allow you to specify a “tier after” day range. This uses a combination of last modified and last accessed – since last accessed is usually not set on servers (it will usually just match last modified), we record this with the Azure File Sync agent.

We don’t currently allow you tier (or not tier) based on other attributes such as create date or file type, but we’re open to it. Please don’t hesitate to create a new item for what you like to see us prioritize next.

    Thanks,

    Will Gries

Hi - any news on the cloud tiering policies now Azure files sync is general release ? This is one of the key areas for us, (ability to configure what is local and what is cloud based, eg., file last modified or last accessed date or perhaps file type.
