How can we improve Azure Storage?

Add Azure File Sync compatibility with Windows Server 2008 R2

We'd like to use Azure File Sinc but our company is using Windows Server 2008 R2, and switching to Windows Server 2012 or 2016 is almost impossible to accomplish, specially when most of our activity is moving to cloud. This would solve our impossibility to move everything to Azure Files, since we can't access our files in the cloud because our systems (Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2) can't use SMB3.0.

Any plans on bringing compatibility to this OS?

Thanks!!

Thank you for the feedback! We are open and interested to get customer feedback on this request. If this is something you would like to see, please vote on this submission. Additionally, we’d like to ask for more detail on why you would like to see 2008 R2 support: are you looking to use AFS to migrate from 2008 R2 to a more recent OS? Or perhaps do you plan to use 2008 R2 passed the Extended Support deadline for 2008 R2 (2020-01-14)?

    Thanks,

Our company doesn't have plans to migrate 2008 R2 to a more recent OS for the internal file share servers. That could change in the future, but right now it's not on the roadmap. We're already using many Azure services, and with AFS compatibility with 2008R2 we could easily have file shares in common with our Azure VMs (IaaS), with all the advantages of AFS.
