  1. SFTP protocol support for Azure Files

Exposing the SFTP protocol would facilitate a bunch of scenarios where today 2 VMs (with all the management overhead that implies) are required.

    • Provide retention policies for Azure File Sync Snapshots

Provide retention policies for AFS snapshots.
Retention policies define the time period/interval and define the total amount of snapshots retained.
These amount of (retained) snapshots should be categorized in Hourly (h:00), Daily (0:00), Weekly (Sunday), Monthly (1st day of month) and are part of the retention policies.
Garbage collection takes care of removing expired snapshots.

          • Azure File Sync Must Synchronize all Valid File/Directory Names as Supported by Windows

Azure File Sync must fully support synchronization of 100% of ALL valid file and directory names as supported on a Windows Server 2016 file system. Reason is an on-premises backup solution would cause the recall of tiered files, Microsoft recommends using a cloud backup solution to back up the Azure file share. That is only feasible when an enterprise has confidence that 100% of the local Windows file server files/folders are copied up to Azure, and currently that is lacking.

During testing it was observed the file sync agent was skipping and never successfully copying thousands of files up to…

Given untrusted servers within a sync group, want to sync file contents but not sync ACL's. ACL's will be set on servers independently of Sync.

              • Add Azure File sync compatibility with Windows Server 2012

Please add Azure File sync compatibility with Windows Server 2012

Till today there are only agents for Windows Server 2012 R2 and 2016.

Windows Server 2012 supports SMB 3.0, WMF 5.1 (and Powershell AzureRM 4.3.1) as listed System Requirements.

So maybe it should work? Thanks a lot

                • Global File Locking for Azure File Sync

For Azure File Sync on multiple geographically diverse servers, lock files across the enterprise to eliminate conflicts.

For example, a user in Chicago opens a spreadsheet on a local server, and that server is running Azure File Sync to a share that is also mounted by a server in Atlanta also running Azure File Sync. The file lock for the spreadsheet should be global, preventing write access in Atlanta when opened in Chicago.

                  See Panzura.com for reference.

                    Hi folks,

This is something we are actively investigating, and would appreciate your feedback on the need to do this, and especially how to ranks compared to other items we could pickup for Azure Files and Azure File Sync.

We’d like to hear from you on this item. Please send us an email at AzureFiles@microsoft.com, and of course vote for this item if you would like to see it.

                    Thanks,

                  • Allow Tiering Based on Other Attributes

In preview, there is only a simple tiering policy: volume free space percentage. When enabled, it tiers based on a "heat map" formula, which looks at last modified and last accessed. It would be helpful to allow tiering directly based on one or more attributes like last modified, last accessed, creation date, or file type.

                    • Add Azure File sync compatibility with Windows Server 2008 R2

We'd like to use Azure File Sinc but our company is using Windows Server 2008 R2, and switching to Windows Server 2012 or 2016 is almost impossible to accomplish, specially when most of our activity is moving to cloud. This would solve our impossibility to move everything to Azure Files, since we can't access our files in the cloud because our systems (Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2) can't use SMB3.0.

Any plans on bringing compatibility to this OS?

                      Thanks!!

                      • Allow use of Azure Files (SMB) on Azure web apps (Paas)

Title says it all I think.

It would be nice to have a persistent way to store files in Azure Web apps, by using standard file operations (System.IO.*).

(Sorry if this was asked before, but I couldn't find it. Feel free to point out the original one and delete this one, in that case)

                        • Avoid auto-generated duplicate files in Azure File Sync

I use Azure File Sync to keep a couple web sites synchronized between a local VM and 2 Azure VMs. The files are stored in an SMB share on Azure Files and accessed directly by IIS 10.
The issue I had a couple times recently, is that a modified file gets automatically duplicated. For example, in the "App_Code" folder of my ASP.Net site, I have a file named "footer.cs". After modifying it locally or through one of the Azure VMs, after a few hours, a new file appears named "footer-Cloud.cs", containing an older version of the same file. This breaks…

I want to use Azure File Sync on easy/small server.
                            no-RAID, less-storage, less-price, less-install, less ITpro,
and order at Online store, or order at PC shop,
and starting Azure Files Storage within few minutes.

I hope a appliance for using Azure Files Storage with Azure File Sync.

I want to use File Server for Azure File Sync with cloud tiering with low-operations to start.
The File Server need IP, Name with Active Directory Join at on-premise.
and Azure Portal can add the File Server to Azure File Sync.
The File Server OS may use Server Core of Windows Server.
So, It may start as File Server within 5 minutes.

                                  No RAID, No Backup,
Low CPU, Low Memory, Low Storage, Low Operations

I hope to the appliance for Azure File Sync.

We definitely think it makes sense to have a pre-configured “appliance” that you can use with Azure Files/Azure File Sync. I see this taking two separate forms: 1) better integration between Windows Server and Azure File Sync, so it’s easier to setup and manage a cloud-connected file share; 2) partner solutions/appliances which work well with Azure File Sync. Other than say it’s something we’re looking into, I don’t have more to share at this time.

                                  • Enhance Azure Files / Azure File Sync to include document icons

In Azure Files (specifically with Azure File Sync), it would enhance the user experience if the document icons would show what we're used to on a File Server vs the generic icons.

                                    • file storage with much more flexible access control

I want to use file storage as on-pre file server.
Please give file storage much more flexible access control.

Support Azure File Storage in the Freebsd based VMs.

Currently it's unable to mount the Azure File Storage in a Freebsed based VM.

                                        • Possibility to map a azure file storage via GPO

Momently its not possible to map a azure file storage share via GPO, because the two fields for username and password are greyed out.
