  1. Copy complete AzureFiles share

Using XDrive we can make a copy or backup from a VHD using blob capabilities instantly - in the same storage account, the same datacenter or a different datacenter.

Moving from XDrive to AzureFiles we are losing this capability. The VHDs may contain thousands of files. Copying those from an XDrive into a AzureFiles share or from one share to another takes a lot of time. Even when using AzCopy.

It would be great if there was a possibility to create copies of whole shares the same way.

Thank you for your feedback. We already have Azure Files Share Snapshot in our backlog to address this scenario. We do not have a specific timeline to share yet.

    • ACL's for AzureFiles

I've started experimenting with Azure Files. One of the features I'm lacking is the fact that you cannot give access to Folders/Files on AzureFiles based on Active Directory credentials. If you setup a typical fileshare one would like to be able to grant/revoke access to folders and files based on information of users in AD.

      • Enable symlinks in Azure Files (SMB)

There is no posibility to create symlinks on Azure Files Samba Shares. It must be enabled on Samba server. Maybe it should be an option?

          • Azure Files on a Virtual Network

It should be possible to place an Azure Files drive on a private Virtual Network and secure it to be only available via the Virtual Network using a private IP address. Now, anyone with the key can access it from any VM on any subscription. Enterprises typically want tighter security and be able to only allow access from within their own environments.

              • Provide an actual "read-only" role for Azure File Service

The reader role available in RBAC doesn't really do what you think it'd do when applied to Azure File Service. A user with this role can't even see the Azure File Service when browsing the storage account.

As I understand it this is by design as the reader role works on Azure objects and not on files and folders.

What I need is a method that prevents users from accidentally deleting files or folders by giving them read-only access to the actual files and folders. I don't need fine grained control over access to files and folders, just a straightforward…

                • Changeable "last-modified" file property on Azure File Service

At the moment, our application stores its documents in a normal folder on a network share. The “Last Modification Time” of the files are important for internal version-handling, and our application heavily uses this file-property.

Now we decided to move our documents into the cloud and we started using Azure File Service Preview. When we upload the documents via REST API, the “Last-Modified” property of the uploaded files get the current-time – that’s reasonable.

But unfortunately afterwards the “Set File Properties” REST API call (https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/dn166975.aspx) does not support the change of the “Last-Modified” property. (I tried both with…

                      • Azure Files - Access/Size Limits

                        Azure Files - Access/Size Limits

Please provide access to the Azure Files service from on-prem. users/devices over 2S2 VPN/ExpressRoute connection.

Also, 5TB size limit is a deal breaker for many organizations. They need to scale higher. Although a workaround would be to provision a different storage account when the size limit is hit.

                        • Add File Storage Account backups or snapshots

We are currently making use of the file storage options in a Storage Account but have no method (outside of mounting the endpoint to a Windows Server) of backing up the files stored within.

Please implement either snapshotting or integration with the backup service

In the management portal I'd like to get a chart showing aggregate space usage for Azure Files or for total usage across all storage services.

(fyi - there's no 'category' here on the feedback portal for 'Files' like there is for Blobs, Tables, etc)
