  1. Ability to Hibernate VMs to support DevTest workflos

The new DevTest Azure portal feature has the ability to turn off VMs on a schedule to support dev/testing without breaking the budget. It would be nice if the VMs could be hibernated instead so that developers would not lose their development sessions/window settings etc. when they start off in the morning. But I understand that the ability to hibernate VMs in Azure is not currently a core feature that exists. It would be very nice if that feature could be added. I'm sure there are other use cases where VM hibernation could be very handy too.

  2. Support upgrading existing Azure VM with Windows Server 2012 R2 to Windows Server 2016

How do I go about upgrading existing Azure VM with Windows Server 2012 R2 to Windows Server 2016? It seems like a big issue for many companies for adopting Windows Server 2016 in Microsoft Azure.

"Microsoft server software support for Microsoft Azure virtual machines" article still states "Microsoft does not support an upgrade of the operating system of a Microsoft Azure virtual machine. Instead, you should create a new Azure virtual machine that is running the supported version of the operating system that is required and then migrate the workload."

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2721672/microsoft-server-software-support-for-microsoft-azure-virtual-machines

    Please support this scenario. Thanks

  3. USB devices are not supported in Azure VMs

USB devices, like flash drives or hardware security dongles, would be useful to have present in the remote VMs. For example, support for dongle-controlled security for applications would then be possible.

  4. Make it possible to download a compressed (zip?) vhd instead of the full vhd

Make it possible to download a compressed (zip?) vhd instead of the full vhd. Now I have to download the whole vhd and not just the bits that are actually used.

We are thinking of enabling an easy way to download a dynamic VHD to reduce the download size, if that helps? Unfortunately, I don’t think VHD files compress that well.

  5. Real Checkpoints - not VM Images

Checkpoints, as they are in Hyper-V and NOT VM Images as announced at Teched and already in production.

VM Images are not really the solution:

    1. Amazon stores only the bits that have changed since the last snapshot, not again the whole machine.
If a have a server with TBs of data and checkpoint the virtual machine, why should I have to pay for the storage twice?
    2. For a quick restore of the checkpoint, we would have to deploy the VM Image - no real solution in relation to how normal Hyper-V checkpoints work.

  6. Windows Images with different languages

It would be great to have pre-built Windows images in different languages for testing software on foreign Windows systems.

  7. Getting scheduled "VM Maintenance" using Powershell

    Hi Corey,

It would be nice if customers could read scheduled maintenance using either Powershell or just a basic REST call. This will bring flexibility and create integration with servicec management systems for notification.

  8. virtual machines column showing user that created

when you create a virtual machine and then revisit mgmt. portal view you have no idea who created that virtual machine, and on what date.

for team shared azure subscriptions this is really important as users don't want to have to bury this kind of information into virtual machine names.

we need it so we can track down who has an a8/a9 virtual machine that's been left running for the past week, or who has a stuck one that needs to be deleted.

we also need the last started/stopped date column view so we can determine if something basically hasn't…

Once we have more AAD integration into the creation and management of VMs, this will be possible. Stay tuned as we dig in here.

  9. Create SQL Cluster VMs

I went to test SQL High Availability or Always On, it is too complicated to setup all. If there is a Wizard which will straight install SQL cluster up and running with multiple VMs sharing same storage and datacenter would be helpful.

If there are pre configured services like,

    1. SQL Cluster (number of nodes)
    2. SQL Replicated VMs, First Primary, Second Merge Replicator or whatever. We can choose number of replicators.
    3. Setup two VMs or more with Mirroring, Replication, Logshipping etc, all configured once and up and running.
    4. Auto log backup SQL to Azure Storage every 15…

  10. Need much better upload speed

A deal breaker seems to be slow upload speed of large data (ca. <200 kB/s from Finland). Our application requires bulk transfer of large (100s GBs) data sets. Our Internet connections normally to most sites report 1000-1500 kB/s speeds).
Import/Export device service doesn't seem to be available in Europe and seems to be a laborius option.

  11. Azure Website with GPU accelerated hardware (i.e. Tesla Series with CUDA)

I have website with CUDA rendering that uses Nvidia Tesla with TCC mode that can use CUDA device in Windows service. Please add such VM image for Azure?

  12. Autogrow for VMs

Looks like there is work under progress to explore live migration / low downtime migration of VMs to reduce the down time during maintenance windows. Will be wonderful to build on it and make in place scale up / Down of a stand alone VM based on performance thresholds possible. Scaling out dosent foot the bill for all scenarios as it really requires SQL always on or ILB on top of it for the app to leverage elasticity in its current form.

  13. Make Windows Azure Powershell CmdLets available by Default

The Windows Azure Powershell Commandlets are very powerful and would be a welcome addition to the Guest OS.

  14. ADFS HA Template

One of the scenarios for Office 365 SSO is to deploy all of the SSO components in Azure: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn509537.aspx

"Scenario 2: All Office 365 SSO integration components deployed in Azure. This is the new, cloud-only approach; you deploy directory synchronization and AD FS in Azure. This eliminates the need to deploy on-premises servers."

If technically possible, it would be great to have instructions to setup site to site VPN, documentation which already exists, and then provision highly available ADFS servers via template.

I think medium sized customers with on-premise AD desiring SSO would find this attractive.

  15. Upgrade OS

You should be able to back up your files and data to a storage account and then upgrade your Windows Server OS to the latest version/edition.

Thanks for the feedback. This has a relatively high test cost and given we have the newest OS version available, we haven’t heard much interest in this.

Please up-vote this and we will consider it.

  16. Make contacting support easier

Azure clearly has some serious bugs. But the current process of contacting support to report these bugs sucks. We're supposed to sign up for a support subscription to tell you that your software is broken. Seriously?!?! Worse still, Microsoft is breaching their SLA's as a result. I can't wait for the class action lawsuit against Microsoft Azure.

I'd love to see a real support process that would enable regular paying users can report problems.

  17. RDP which works also with Mac OS X

I tried many Mac RDP clients but none of them could connect to the Azure instances, maybe because of the special load balancer settings within the azure RDP file.

  18. Failover Cluster support besides SQL AlwaysOn

It would be great for failover clustering to be supported with Azure VMs as it would allow my customers to migrate all their thinkable on-premises workloads to Azure. Move to an Azure-only environment is being asked more frequently.
Shared VHDX and a way to get a valid cluster IP address seems to be key for this to get operational.
It would be a perfect in combination with availability sets for e.g. file server clusters, SQL failover clusters, custom application clusters

  20. Virtual Machines Disks view must show disk size

In Virtual Machines when you switch to Disks view, it’s very useful to show each disk size! I mean a new column with this important information.
Please, this is a simple information, but helps a lot.
