Add gallery image for Server 2012 R2 Standard
Please add a gallery image for Server 2012 R2 Standard.
Please allow this option so we can align with our corporate standard VM version, it would not be a big deal if we could bring our own standard image and deploy it across storage accounts, but that is not possible either... so we either have to use a gallery image and customize it, or else we have to bring our own standard image and keep it across many, many storage accounts and subscriptions.
Using Datacenter version locks us into Azure, there is a big licensing cost to bring a VM back on-prem if necessary. We would normally run a VM as a standard version, and the hypervisor is the datacenter version.
The only difference between these versions are if you run virtualization on the server, which we are not doing in Azure obviously, so why make the guest VM datacenter version?
You can now share a common image across subscriptions using the Azure Shared Image Gallery. This will enable the publishing of a custom image that meets specific corporate requirements.
any news about this new image, i'm surprise because on OVH or over Cloud Solution you can choice between Standard or DataCenter Version for Windows Server 2012R2

If I understand the licensing correctly this should not be a problem if you run Datacenter edition on Hypervisor host you can run any edition for free in as many guests on top of it.
This makes more sense to use Standard for virtual machines then datacenter, would also help to match up with our on-premise standards.
