  1. restore vm azure cli

    restore vm should be an option in the Azure CLI. It can be done through the portal to a point in time and there is a similar feature for dbs that makes automation easier. Any thoughts?

  2. The Virtual Machine Contributor role should be able to take and manage snapshots

    The virtual machine contributor role should be able to manage all aspects of virtual machines.

    Currently the role does not have the ability to take snapshots of disks attached to VMs which is a standard administration task for managing VMs.

    It shouldn't be necessary to need to create a custom role for this.

  3. new scenario

    We are observing the NVA's cpu utilization was low, but the network flows (total of inbound and outbound) has gone up above 250K and the users experiences delayed performance as Microsoft Azure has a limitation of 250K network flows per VM. 250K may be a good baseline for normal workloads but definitely not for NVA.

  4. Jenkins Azure Plugin Modification: Deinitialization Script

    In certain instance auto-provisioned Azure based Jenkins nodes may have done some specific setup or modifications for an external portion of another system. If a deinitialization script could be executed before the Azure plugin begins teardown of the node this would allow for an easy automated cleanup.

  5. Capacity alert for virtual machine

    [Problem]
    Users cannot know the high utilization event happens in the selected region until they file a new support request.
    In result, user will experience the allocation problem.

    [Solution]
    The alert regarding the above will make users avoid the burden of support request and to consider trying other sizes.

  6. ARM support for Generation 2 VHD

    I need to create a Generation 2 VM in Azure from a Gen 2 VHD using an ARM Template. The idea here is to support this via ARM templates. Example:
    "osDisk": {

            "osType": "Windows",

    "createOption": "Attach",
    "managedDisk": {
    "storageAccountType": "[parameters('diskStorageType')]",
    "id": "[resourceId('Microsoft.Compute/disks/', concat(variables('rras01VMName'),'-OsDisk'))]",
    "vmGeneration": “2”
    },
    "caching": "ReadWrite"
    }

  7. Allow Exceptions to Azure Monitoring for VM

    A number of our Azure VM are encrypted with Bitlocker - as you know this creates a a logical disk of 30MB. The problem with this, is all VM's are flagged as critical with "Logical Disk Free Space (MB)"

    Is there a way to put an exception in for all VM's across all resource groups, or for a clever way to Azure to detect this automatically.

  8. Allow Multiple disk attach/detach to VM simultaneously.

    Right now API virtualmachines.createor_update is single threaded can we make it multi threaded or can we throttle request coming to server at server end by keeping semaphore or any another approach which is suitable to design . Currently it shows error like GenericError: Changing property 'dataDisk.managedDisk.id' is not allowed which so generic and naive it should have some kind of intelligence at back end .

  9. Warn users that disabling disk caching on a VM is disruptive.

    When disabling caching on a disk, there is no warning that the change is disruptive like most other changes in Azure Portal. When caching is disabled, the VMs disk becomes unavailable momentarily and can cause issues. I know this one will not get many votes, because this is not a change that occurs often, but there should be some kind of warning.

  10. Windows VM with Visual Studio 2017 Should Include Windows Universal CRT SDK

    I am using the following image for pre-installed Visual Studio 2017.
    However "Windows Universal CRT SDK" is missing.
    It is a commonly used module. Please help pre-install it.

    {

    "offer": "VisualStudio",

    "publisher": "MicrosoftVisualStudio",
    "sku": "VS-2017-Comm-Win10-N",
    "urn": "MicrosoftVisualStudio:VisualStudio:VS-2017-Comm-Win10-N:2019.8.19",

  11. An easy way to copy VM

    Hope there's an easy way in Azure portal for VM copy, for example: A Copy Button. When I click the button, it will create a new VM same configration as the original one.

  12. Get notify on non-impacting update for some business/mission critical Azure VMs

    Some servers is network sensitive can't afford few seconds of network outage caused by Azure non-impacting update.

    The 2 Azure NetApp HA instances in our environment suffer unexpected reboot every time non-impacting update happens and also lead to other third-party replication services failed and halted.

  14. Ability to read properties values in Microsoft.Compute/virtualMachineScaleSets/extensions/settings policy alias

    Would like to be able to create azure policy that can check the value of properties in VM & VMSS extensions. For instance if I have deployed the AzureDiskEncryptionForLinux extension i would like to further validate that the available settings for that extension are configured per company policy. so ability to add something like the following in a policy rule:

    "field": "Microsoft.Compute/virtualMachineScaleSets/extensions/settings"
    "containsKeyValue": "EncryptionOperation:EnableEncryption"

  15. Support for marketplace VMs that run custom OS

    Provide a solution to update/install the mobility service agent/extension on a VM from the Markeplate with closed OS to perform the replication job - By close OS I mean that no one would be able to SSH to the VM

  16. Add Azure portal Resource Group filter 'Select All' option for Virtual Machine filtering

    Currently we can select specific (or all) subscriptions, locations, tags, etc and use them in filtering the Virtual Machines.

    We can select Resource Group filtering as well, however i have to unselect each resource group one by one if I want to filter my view to a specific resource group.

    Proposal: Add a 'Select All' option, that when Unchecked clears all the selections from the Resource Groups filter, allowing a single one to be selected.

  18. Using M208s_v2 is super hard.

    The necessary image for this vm instance is the GEN2 SUSE linux, and the documentation to install the azure cli fails for this instance and image combo.

    Also, finding the correct image for this vm instance was not clear at all.

    And trying to increase the volume disk size using the azure portal fails.

  19. VMSS scaleset /VM creation validation is successful the images that were not generalized.

    Customer's are feeling mislead when the validation shows successful although they are using images captured from ungeneralized VM's. if there is possibilty to validate if the OS is good or corrupted it would be great.

  20. Fix the recently broken time entry field for automation schedules, VM auto-shutodown

    The Azure portal used to accept times in the format like 1200 or 1700, etc. After a recent change, the format is very rigid and must now be like "5:00:00 PM". Any deviation from that erase user input and reverts. Very annoying, and caused errors for us.

    Example locations for time entry are VM auto-shutdown and Automation schedules.
