  1. Options to set waagent.conf variables (Linux)

The linux (Ubuntu) machines are not really persistent when shutting down and/or capturing, the waagent.conf is not read properly (even when capturing an image, a new image based on the capture does not include changed settings in waagent.conf).

It would be nice to have the waagent.conf setting configurable at start up, when creating the virtual machine.

There are a few bugs we are working through to address these issues:

    1) Hostname changes are not persistent across reboots on Ubuntu. This is an issue we are working through on cloud-init which we should have fixed soon: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/walinuxagent/+bug/1375252

    2. Customers cannot use the waagent.conf file to change the location of the local disk mount point or set up swap space in a consistent way. We are working through how to fix this wit these two bugs:

    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-init/+bug/1374115

    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-init/+bug/1374166

  2. Congruence Management Portal - Reserved IP at VM creation

In the Preview Portal, it is possible to set a Reserved IP adress (and other options with respect to IP addresses).

In the Management Portal, such an option is not available.

Please keep congruence between Management and Preview Portal!!!

  3. Add the possibility to virtualize a Windows Phone 8.1 in Azure

I allready now that is "imposible" to do an virtualization inside another one using Hyper-V....
Instead you shoud offer the possibility to do it in a First Intance and offer some kind o RDP to the phone such as the extinguish Nokia RDA

    Regards,

  4. Allow to create VM without starting it immediatelly

Sometimes I want to create VM and immediatelly set additional configuration like attachng additional disk, set static IP via powersell. Today when I create it I need to wait for it to be provisioned/started, then shutdown it and wait and finally I can do some additional settings. Also when recreating deleted VMs which had previously attached disks (SQL server, domain controller) it first starts with disks missing which can even break stuff. Please add additional checkbox/flag to portal/powershell when creating VM so that it is not started/provisioned immediatelly.

  5. Allow shutdown from VM to deallocated state

Allow regular shutdown inside VM to go always to Stopped(deallocated) state. This could be a flag set per VM just like static IP. Or it could be even default in Azure, why there is the Stopped state anyway?

  6. Retrieve VM internalUUID from REST API

Since http://azure.microsoft.com/blog/2014/10/13/accessing-and-using-azure-vm-unique-id/ ther's now there's now an Azure-unique UUID but you need to log into VM to get it.

It should be exposed in API (under RoleInstance entity?) so 3rd party integrations could identify uniquely VMs easily.

We've also missed a way in API to search for a certain VM without having to look in every cloud service. This unique UUID could be useful.

  8. Real Checkpoints - not VM Images

Checkpoints, as they are in Hyper-V and NOT VM Images as announced at Teched and already in production.

VM Images are not really the solution:

    1. Amazon stores only the bits that have changed since the last snapshot, not again the whole machine.
If a have a server with TBs of data and checkpoint the virtual machine, why should I have to pay for the storage twice?

    2. For a quick restore of the checkpoint, we would have to deploy the VM Image - no real solution in relation to how normal Hyper-V checkpoints work.

  9. Yes, Need to know when a virtual machine reboots.

There needs to be an email sent when a VM is rebooted. You can do that now if the processor on the VM goes above a certain threshold.

We do plan to add support to indicate when a VM has rebooted in the operation logs. We will investigate whether to also add support for emailing in this situation but i like the idea.

  10. Dynamic Memory - pay for what you use

On premise we use Dynamic RAM on Hyper-V. It would be useful if the same applied for Virtual Machines on azure and we pay based on the amount of RAM used.

This makes choosing the VM size easier and makes things more cost effective over a period of time.

This is tricky to offer given some of the bin-packing needs of offering a public cloud service. We will continue to investigate the possibility of doing something like this.

  11. Machine State For Test Environment

I use here just for SharePoint farm for now and thanks for user friendly portal. It is really nice to use a great farm at least 3 virtual machines. Maybe it should better if there is no action on machine for couple hours to shut down machine automatically. Maybe I think different from your work politics but it should be better to save limited credits for test users at the beginning

This cost saving mechanism is something we are looking to enable. You could support this just using Azure Automation scripts to detect and act.

  12. Error Creating VM UX

    1. Creating VM is not validating all fields

    2. I shouldn't be reading JSON to figure out what the problem is

    3. I should know what my options are

    4. Notification should take me to the configuration page and ask me to correct the error

  13. Provide a way to run Mac Based remote build agents for Xamarin/ Multi-Device Hybrid Apps extension for Visual Studio

Enable developers to run Mac Based iOS build agents such as Multi-Device Hybrid Apps extension for Visual Studio http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn771551.aspx I currently use Macincloud.com or my own Mac but would love to do this on Azure.

  15. Ensure system Locale is not only possible to be set but set on the image if it's deployed in that region.

It is simply unacceptable that servers on Azure cannot be localised to the local time and date and formats.
I've been told by MS support that not only is the locale set to anything other then US but if the time zone is changed it will cause the fabric to reinitialise the VM's as it will deem them out of sync!
We have been told to make our apps aware of UTC/US Locale, tell me, when delivering a remote app that shows and works with locale time in multiple regions, how are we to "make our app aware" of what…

  16. Detailed error messages

My VM failed to provision. The error message did not provide any insight. Prompting the user to "try again" increases frustration.

Thanks for the feedback. If this gets a few more votes (and possibly some examples of the types of changes) we will consider these improvements.

  18. Make it possible to undelete a VHD if it gets deleted.

It appears someone deleted our VM and VHD over night.

We cannot recover it without going to the backups

Very unhappy that this cloud thing is not as good as advertised

  20. stop charging for 'transactions'.

this seems like a nickel & dime thing. Just include storage transactions as part of the cost of a VM.
