  1. Virtual Machine Console Access Part Deux

    The previous post suggesting the addition of basic VM functionality was inappropriately marked "completed" serial console was added.

    The serial console is better than nothing, but just barely, and was not at all what was being requested by that post.

    What we need is a equivalent of the VMware Remote Console.

  3. CSE executed before cloud-init

    Hello,

    I have an ARM template with VM + CSE script to be executed.
    I've provided a cloud-init config through customData parameter.

    My cloud-init looks as follows:
    $ cloud-config
    package_upgrade: true
    package_update: true
    packages:
    - libssl-dev
    - libffi-dev
    - python-dev
    runcmd:
    - curl -sL <a rel="nofollow noreferrer" href="https://aka.ms/InstallAzureCLIDeb">https://aka.ms/InstallAzureCLIDeb</a> | sudo bash
    - az aks install-cli

    Within the CSE script, I'm trying to run az login command, but I keep getting an error az: command not found.

    When I ssh into VM, I can see az working just fine.

    Actual behavior

    I've looked through logs, and this is what I…

  4. B Series Burstable Unlimited Mode

    The B Series family should offer an "Unlimited" mode for bursting. So when a workload runs out of credits to burst, if the mode is set to unlimited, the vm will be billed at higher rate instead of just dropping down the allowed average. (Like the AWS featuer for T3)

  5. How do you ensure vms are patched?

    Can one machine stay running and not get patched because it wasn’t added or removed from the cluster?

  6. Serial Console from Az/PowerShell

    We should be able to connect to an interactive serial console session using Az and pipe commands to it, etc. I'd also like to see something like this for Az PowerShell akin to the PSSession or invoking VM commands with the agent.

    Having to use it from the browser is not always the most ideal, we have procedures known issues we have encounter that require booting Windows VMs into Safe Mode and invoking commands on them doesn't seem to work in Safe Mode

  7. Display IOPS and throughput on the Overview page

    It would be good to show the IOPS and throughput limit of the VM on the overview page. This would eliminate the need to lookup IOPS/throughput when doing right-sizing activities.

  8. ED25519 & ECDSA key format support

    Hi,

    It would be nice to be able to use key in ED25519 and ECDSA format on Azure when we want to connect to our GNU Linux on EC2.

    Thanks,

    David

  9. Live migration of VM's incase of any potential failures of physical node

    We have been observing virtual machines are rebooting frequently whenever there is issue with underlying physical node. This is not a good idea/option to reboot the node as the nodes are actively part of production traffic. This will leads to the inconveniences to the business and may affect.

    Why don't Microsoft come up with live migration of virtual machines whenever it detects potential failure like VMWare HA does. The process of power off the VM and moving to healthy node, then powering on, not a good solution.

  10. Please vote for Termination profile

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machine-scale-sets/virtual-machine-scale-sets-terminate-notification

    This helps to invoke custom clean up commands and make sure the VMSS Scale in has sufficient time to clean up and then gets terminated

  11. hyperv freebsd driver bandwidth

    https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla//show_bug.cgi?id=240945
    [hyper-v] [netvsc] hn network driver incorrectly detects baudrate
    I have VM with latests pfsense, I was curious why net incorrectly detects link speed ( 10 gbps instead 25gbps),
    had found that baudrate was manually hardcoded in driver.
    By that line:

    ifp-&gt;if_baudrate = IF_Gbps(10);

    in:
    https://github.com/freebsd/freebsd/commit/e57ec55e201d11e94f8ef77f0eee70cbe212ca28

    Since networking moving forward it would be great to detect link speeds correctly and allow more than 10 gbps in hyper-v vms.

    My hypervsiros using win 2019, and QLogic FastLinQ QL41212HLCU Dual-Port 25GbE Adapters

  12. warning when changing host caching from read to none

    There should be a more clearer in the azure portal when you change the host caching from read to none, because the disk is unavailable or a few minutes in the Linux VM, the warning is there when you change a disk from to read/write from read, but not when changing the host caching from read to none.

  14. Creating a Low Priority VMSS using Portal has FD count bug

    When creating a VMSS with Low Priority, FaultDomain Count is set to 5 by default.

    "spreadingAlgorithmPlatformFaultDomainCount": {

            &quot;value&quot;: &quot;5&quot;

    Obviously this is a bug, because Low Priority VMSS only supports Single Fault Domain
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machine-scale-sets/virtual-machine-scale-sets-use-low-priority

    If we go with the default value, we got FD count error.

    Deployment failed. Correlation ID:
    {
    'error': {

    &#39;code&#39;: &#39;InvalidParameter&#39;,

    &#39;message&#39;: &#39;The value of parameter platformFaultDomainCount is invalid.&#39;,
    &#39;target&#39;: &#39;platformFaultDomainCount&#39;

    }
    }

    I think this needs to be fixed in Portal Front-end side.

  17. Disable Server Manager on startup

    Please configure Windows Server images on Azure not to load Server Manager on startup (as EC2 does). This is a slow loading and resource consuming app that's mostly unnecessary for Azure VMs, and it's slowing down connecting to the machine via RDP.

    Use the sandbox service within tutorial session to allow those new to Azure to run through the tutorial process without running into permission error messages.

    Currently new users don't have permissions to create new instances

  19. Support ZRS for Virtual Machine boot diagnostics & diagnostics settings

    Here's the scenario: You deploy VMs across availability zones 1-3. You enable boot diagnostics and diagnostics settings and are forced to use LRS/GRS. You opt for one of those. Later Zone 2 goes down, and the storage cluster with the storage account also goes down (bound to Zone 2). And now you lose essential storage for the VMs in Zones 1 and 3, potentially breaking services if any of those VMs reboot or attempt to boot up/deploy.

    Other services are perfectly fine supporting GPv2 ZRS for zone redundancy. VMs being a primary candidate for zone redundancy also should support GPv2…
