  1. enforce auto shutdown of VMs

I would love to be able to automatically enforce a shutdown of all VMs under a subscription, so if someone spins up a VM it would automatically amend the auto shutdown policy. Where only the subscription admin can override it.

  2. VM shutdown reason's detail at Azure Portal

When Azure VM has happened like "unexpected reboot or shutdown", want to know "more details" from Azure Portal easily in real time.

  3. is this on the Azure Government roadmap?

Is this on the upcoming road map for Azure Government? I have a customer where this would help with requirements.

  4. Enable small memory dump for Azure Virtual Machines by default

When an Azure VM crashes, the RCA is usually not found until memory dump is enabled and it happens again. It would be nice if this were enabled by default on VMs to reduce the effort needed to find RCA of a VM crash.

  5. Offer granular RBAC for virtualMachine serial console access

As confirmed via Support Case 119052326000457 there is one, and only one method, to grant access to a VM's serial console, which is to obtain the Virtual Machine Contributor role which may be a lot more privileged than an individual may need to do their job.

Within our organization it is important to follow the principles of least privilege wherever feasible. As such we want to be able to grant a support team access to a VM's serial console without that same team being able to make IaaS config changes to the VM (shutdown, reconfigure, etc.). This would help prevent…

  6. Packer WinRM Timeout

    Documentation:
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/windows/build-image-with-packer

Using the documentation above, create Windows Server 2019 using Packer, when packer tries to connect to the created VMs WinRM times out. Timeouts are happening more frequently between 10AM-4PM in 'WestEurope' region. Other times/region are less prone to the timeout. The ask is to not have similar timeouts in 'WestEurope' region and '10AM-4PM' as with other regions and times.

There is an open issue about Packer on GitHub.
    https://github.com/hashicorp/packer/issues/8658

  7. CoreOS Container Linux end of life - Fedora CoreOS not supported on Azure

CoreOS is reaching end-of-life on May 26, 2020 and will be removed from Azure images in September 2020. Successor to that will be fedora CoreOS, however as of now it is not currently natively supported for Azure. The ask is to have Fedora CoreOS available and supported in Azure.

  8. metadata hybrid license

metadata should include the hybrid license status.
this way automation scripts running on the vm can get their license model (azure or hybrid) and set the kms license server accordingly.

  10. Make B-Series available in every region

I just got a free account, but don't see a way to create a small burstable VM. B-Series does not seem to be available in my region, and I cannot see where it is available at all.
I should not be forced to choose a 70$/month option for a simple exercise.

  11. to make traceroute and mtr work in Azure Linux VMs

Even after enabling firewall rules, it is not possible to do traceroute and mtr in certain Azure Linux flavors (particularly CentOS).
NMap works, so it is only traceroute that is the problem. Kindly add support for traceroute.

  13. Get public IPs from metadata for VM Scale Sets instances

Case with the Support shows a limitation in the metadata for VMSS instances.

Indeed, it is actually not possible to get the Public IP of a publicly addressed VM Scale Set instance from the metadata.

I hope this limitation will be shortly fixed.

  14. Messages are meaningless - provide better information

When trying to run command in aVM form the portal the following message is presented:

The list of commands is not available due to missing permissions or location-specific limitations.

No link to more information, no knowledge base article, Google cannot find a reference, etc. The message states the problem, it is meaningless without a solution.

  15. Misleading 404's from boot diagnostics

Boot diagnostics and serial console operations are returning many 404 errors when enabled for VM.

Basically, the presence of 404 errors are counted against “client errors” in the insight for storage monitoring blade (storage side analytics)

It would be really helpful if they are addressed at Boot diagnostics API level in such a way that it verifies blob existence with out throwing 404.

  17. Build CIS Windows Server on Azure with Packer

Create a Packer script that uses the CIS Windows Server 2019 from the Azure Marketplace as a base image. Packer will provision the VM but fail to connect to it and configure it.
For other provider there is a setting called customdatafile that allows you to send a script to be run on the VM in provisioning time. With this setting you can enable WinRM Basic Authentication to allow Packer to connect and do its provisioning. There is no equivalent to this for Windows VMs in Azure.

  19. Daylight Savings not considered in VM

    I live in UK.
I created a VM, deployed in West US (of course because Azure UK/Europe is facing overloading), so when I logged into VM the time is showing 1 hour behind. I believe the Daylight saving after March 29th is not considered.

  20. Support for live migration for Lsv2 VMs

As per https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/lsv2-series?toc=/azure/virtual-machines/linux/toc.json&bc=/azure/virtual-machines/linux/breadcrumb/toc.json, for Lsv2 VMs, premium storage caching, live migration and memory preserving updates are not supported. Is supporting them in the roadmap? If so, are there any timelines that could be shared?
