  1. Thin provisioned disks. Reduce the size of a disk

I do not like the fact there are no thin provisioned disks.

Moreover you can not even reduce the size of the disk

I do not like these supposed "gotchas" which can cost a lot more money

127GB standard for a O/s drive for example is a complete overkill

I will also explore whether defaults can be changed for such things as location so things do not point to the US if you are based in the UK for example. Instructor today told me no in training.

  2. Put a name to the Reserved Instance while making the purchase

In the past, I was able to put a friendly name while purchasing a Reserved Instance but, with the new experience it seems that this is a challenge and I can rename it after I make the purchase which is a waste of time.

  4. VM creation validation on tags, without actually creating any underlying resources

I have created two policies contained within an initiative for a tagging requirement. One of these validated Resource Group creation, and the other VM creation.

All of my other VM creation requirements (such as allowed images, allowed SKU's, allowed regions etc) result either in a Validation Failed or Validation Passed during creation validation, with the exception of TAG.

When attempting to create a new Resource Group that does not have the required tags defined in the policy, I get a creation error. It's a bit ugly looking but it at least stops the creation of the Resource Group that does…

  5. Constrained CPU on DS15_v2 or beyond

Can you offer D15 with constrained CPU?
We are running SQL server on this VMs with CPU count licenses, and our workload need more RAM than CPU.

  6. Virtual Resource Deletion process

I have suggestion wrt to deleting a resources,I think we need to create a process while creating a VM,That this resource will follow a deleteion approval process to make sure its not delted without MFA andhas to be retained for 24 to 48 hours for saftey puprose

Virtual Deletion is a simple process but it has to be equal to physical security not from data perspective but also from physical deletion perspective ,

so when someone deletes a resource it cannot just go away like that which may increase the customer fear of cloud computing when compare to Physical computing,

  7. Azure Disk Encryption - Ability to auto update Key Encryption Key

Azure Disk Encryption - Ability to auto update Key Encryption Key

We have a requirement to rotate the key used for Azure Disk Encryption. It would be good if there was a way to always reference the latest version of a KEK. We could then configure the disk encryption extension to refer to latest version of the KEK. If we update the KEK the extension should pick up the change and automatically update the BEK used to encrypt the disk.

  8. Add word "Local" to the reserved words list for username when creating Windows VMs in Azure

When creating VMs, if you use the username "local" and choose a password the user account 'local' does not get created on the OS. Instead, the Administrator account gets enabled and the password you attempted to set for a user called "local" is set on the Administrator account.

This caused confusion during RDP to the OS, as the expected username to use was "local" - however, the account does not exist on the OS.

A potential fix would be to block the use of "local" as a username, similarly to how the username "Administrator" is reserved from use.

  10. create an IaaS VM - D1s v3 (1CPU, 4GB) spec

    The equivalent spec is a last generation DS1 v2 (1 CPU 3.5GB)
    The latest v3 generation should be D1s v3 (1 CPU, 4GB)

  11. Clone VM without sacrificing the original to the "sysprep" gods

I often set up Linux VMs with attached disks, and need to 1-click clone the VM to make new ones for parallel work.

For some reason Azure requires us to prepare the VM for a ritual sacrifice with "sysprep" or something, and destroying the original magically makes a clone-able VM. If I need to make modifications I have to re-deploy and then re-sacrifice again. This seems way too complicated.

  12. Add option to control VM agent log placement and rotation

Currently all the agents that can be deployed onto an Azure Windows VM log into two hardwired folders: C:\WindowsAzure and C:\Packages\Plugins.

Also, much (all?) of the actual agent binaries are also placed in these files, including any newer versions.

Unfortunately neither the logs, nor the older defunct binaries are removed. Using 30+ Windows VMs for around a year, with Diagnostic Agents, Backup Agents, DSC lcm, and others. Neither of these clean up any of their "litters" generated during their operation.

This means, the above folders (especially WIndowsAzure) continues to grow indefinitely. Currently these are on around 3-5GB of size for…

  13. VMSS rolling updates on custom images

Allow rolling updates on custom images.

Currently if you build a custom image and create a VMSS with it you have to manually "roll it out" via upgrade. Seems silly when the image is housed and built just like any other. were just talking about watching the upgrade process by way of the VM's "upgrade status"

seems doable not sure why its held back, especially when the VMSS set knows its "not current"

  14. Have Azure Update Manager update itself for installations on premises.

We've had vm's drop from inventory and were notified that the Azure Update Manager installed on premises needed to be manually updated. It would be great if the agent could reach out and check for new updates and update itself automatically.

  15. After configuration is complete, add new nodes to the product rotation.

An update occurs when a new Node enters product rotation.
If a VM is deployed in the Node during updating, the VM is not started until the updating is complete.
Therefore, we put Node in rotation after setting is completed.

  17. Basic_A0 size should not list out when create Windows 2016 server from Azure portal

The least RAM required for Windows 2016 server deployment is 512MB to boot. while Basic_A0 size VM has only 768MB Memory size. This size is not suitable for Windows 2016 server deployment in Azure. Since it will require more than 768 MB to login and operate normal things.

Can you please move the Basic_A0 size out of the VM size list when we are creating Windows 2016 servers? this can avoid some issue.

  18. Azure don't give any warning and providing size which will not work for the image we select

Azure don't give any warning and providing size which will not work for the image we select:

You can provision a windows Server 2016 with Basic_A0. But the size is below requirement and you won't be able to login and make that server work.

Most of the time server will go in the failed state.

I recommend, if azure can give some kind of warning of totally don't provide the size. when the selected size don't meet the minimum requirement for the selected server.

  19. Add "VM JIT Requestor" role to Resource/RG level role list

Quite often, I want to grant users login access to an Azure VM without giving them contributor access to modify the metadata associated with the VM itself. However, while Reader access gives users access to the Azure portal, and Virtual Machine User Login access allows users to login to the VM once in the portal, neither the aforementioned roles nor any other predefined role provides the ability to request JIT access to the VM.

My workaround has been to create a cusotm role with the following allowed action: Microsoft.Security/locations/jitNetworkAccessPolicies/initiate/action

However, this seems like an action that should either be allowed…
