  1. Display guest OS version of Cloud Services in Azure Portal

It would be nice if Guest OS version for Cloud Services would somehow be visible/accessible inside Azure Portal. Currently, the only way to see which Guest OS version is installed is through https://resources.azure.com. Guest OS version is needed to see which updates and patches have been installed and applied.

  2. VM ID (UUID) - Display on Azure Portal Virtual Machine Overview Panel

Both AWS and Google display the unique ID of an instance on the main virtual machine display in their web portal.

It seems overly burdensome to require API calls or meta data calls from the interior of the VM to see it.

Could it please be put on the Azure portal.

  3. enforce auto shutdown of VMs

I would love to be able to automatically enforce a shutdown of all VMs under a subscription, so if someone spins up a VM it would automatically amend the auto shutdown policy. Where only the subscription admin can override it.

  4. VM shutdown reason's detail at Azure Portal

When Azure VM has happened like "unexpected reboot or shutdown", want to know "more details" from Azure Portal easily in real time.

  5. Effective route tables for VMSS

As confirmed by PG in Support case 119091125000146 there is no way to query the effective route table for a VMSS instance, thus leaving 100% VMSS based infrastructures completely blind.

  6. Get public IPs from metadata for VM Scale Sets instances

Case with the Support shows a limitation in the metadata for VMSS instances.

Indeed, it is actually not possible to get the Public IP of a publicly addressed VM Scale Set instance from the metadata.

I hope this limitation will be shortly fixed.

  7. Build CIS Windows Server on Azure with Packer

Create a Packer script that uses the CIS Windows Server 2019 from the Azure Marketplace as a base image. Packer will provision the VM but fail to connect to it and configure it.
For other provider there is a setting called customdatafile that allows you to send a script to be run on the VM in provisioning time. With this setting you can enable WinRM Basic Authentication to allow Packer to connect and do its provisioning. There is no equivalent to this for Windows VMs in Azure.

  9. Daylight Savings not considered in VM

    I live in UK.
I created a VM, deployed in West US (of course because Azure UK/Europe is facing overloading), so when I logged into VM the time is showing 1 hour behind. I believe the Daylight saving after March 29th is not considered.

  10. Support for live migration for Lsv2 VMs

As per https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/lsv2-series?toc=/azure/virtual-machines/linux/toc.json&bc=/azure/virtual-machines/linux/breadcrumb/toc.json, for Lsv2 VMs, premium storage caching, live migration and memory preserving updates are not supported. Is supporting them in the roadmap? If so, are there any timelines that could be shared?

  11. Allow Termination Events to be enabled on VMSS with Low-Priority/Spot

Would like the ability to enable Termination events on Low-Priority/Spot VMSS.

Low-Priority/Spot VMs currently have the ability to react to pre-emption events, but lack the ability to handle scale-in events like the regular priority, auto-scaling, Scale Sets do.

I'm acknowledging that this appears to be an intentional decision (see examples below), but think that this would be useful.

    Terminate Notification:
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machine-scale-sets/virtual-machine-scale-sets-terminate-notification#tips-and-best-practices

As well as the api response when attempting to enable it via PoSH:

"Virtual Machine Scale Sets with extension scheduledEventsProfile must have property priority set to Regular"

  12. to make traceroute and mtr work in Azure Linux VMs

Even after enabling firewall rules, it is not possible to do traceroute and mtr in certain Azure Linux flavors (particularly CentOS).
NMap works, so it is only traceroute that is the problem. Kindly add support for traceroute.

  13. Build feature for offline patching of VMs and VHDs

It would be great to have the ability to patch virtual machines and VHDs offline, this would enhance security and tremendously ease management of VHDs in a shared image gallery!

  14. Allow users to use the Azure serial console with the Virtual Machine User Login role instead of Virtual Machine Contributor.

Users do not need to create virtual servers and do not need to create and manage virtual machine scale sets. However, I want to manage the OS by connecting a serial console from the Azure portal.
Even in an environment where SSH connection is not possible, the Azure portal can be opened, so we want to be able to perform OS maintenance with a serial console connection from there.

  18. Add support for customized VM size as build VM in Azure Image Builder

Image Builder spins up a small VM to run build by default, there should be a customize option to spin up a VMs.
