  1. Allow provisioned VM pricing to be altered to add software licensing without reprovisioning

As an Azure VM user/administrator, I would like to be able to take an existing VM priced at one rate, and "upgrade" the pricing to include licensing for products installed after provisioning. I would like this to provide flexibility (e.g., if I want to install SQL Server on a Windows priced VM, without losing install/configuration work already undertaken on that VM and without independently licensing SQL; or if I want to add BizTalk to a Win/SQL-priced VM). I would also like this to allow simplified compliance (e.g., a Windows-priced VM is found to have SQL Server installed after provisioning), to…

    • create an IaaS VM - D1s v3 (1CPU, 4GB) spec

      The equivalent spec is a last generation DS1 v2 (1 CPU 3.5GB)
      The latest v3 generation should be D1s v3 (1 CPU, 4GB)

      • Virtual Machine Console Access Part Deux

The previous post suggesting the addition of basic VM functionality was inappropriately marked "completed" serial console was added.

The serial console is better than nothing, but just barely, and was not at all what was being requested by that post.

What we need is a equivalent of the VMware Remote Console.

        • Fix or allow automated cleanup for orphaned Microsoft Hyper-V Network adapters on Azure VM's

We have identified an issue with our Azure VM environment.

We use an Automation script to stop and start our VM's every night - however it seems that every time the VM's start up a new virtual network adapter is created, leaving potentially hundreds of old orphaned ones on the system (showing up as Microsoft Hyper-V Network Adapter #123).

In itself this is merely an inconvenience but we have twice experienced an issue where after a certain number of these orphaned adapters have built up the VM's fail to create a new working adapter with the effect that network communications…

          • Enable Powershell Cmdlet for migrating VMSS to use Managed Disk

Similar to the cmdlet ConvertTo-AzVMManagedDisk - have an option to trigger a VMSS migration to use Managed Disk

            • Prevent the 'failed' state when VMSS autoscaled to subnet namespace size

VMSS easily turn 'failed' status with following step and cannot recover without delete and re-create the VMSS.

              Repro step is:
              1. Create Vnet and subnets. The address space of subnet for VMSS is /27 (for example)
              2. Create AppGW(Small/1instance, no publicIP) in Vnet
              3. Create VMSS under AppGW
              ... set the Autoscale rule as Min/Max/default : 2/25/2
... In my case, I created Standard_DS1_v2 size VMSS
              4. change Autoscale parameter to 16/25/16
              5. change Autoscale parameter to 25/25/25
              =>reproduces

want to prevent the state. thanks,

              • "Windows Server 2016 Datacenter - with Containers" Hangs on Extracting "microsoft/windowsservercore" layer

I run docker images from azure pipeline on virtual machine remotely. I have image that usese "microsoft/windowsservercore" image as base.
I am using "Windows Server 2016 Datacenter - with Containers" on "Standard_A2_v2"/"Standard_A4_v2" size machines with "Standard SSD". Last two weeks everything was working fine. But starting from 18.02.2019 virtual machine docker run command hangs on extracting "microsoft/windowsservercore" second layer and instead of like previously run for 7-11 minutes it runs for 35, when i run command manually over RDP or from azure pipeline. I have recreated virtual machines 3 times and process still hangs. On local Windows 10 everything works…

                • In-Place OS Upgrade in Azure

It would be nice to see In-Place OS Upgrade in Azure. Currently we are working on a project to replace all VM with OS Windows 2008 because
Microsoft will be officially ending its support for Windows Server 2008 R2 editions. The problem we are facing is we don't have support from vendor to reinstall the application on new platform and the only workaround offered by Microsoft are as following:

                  1. Create an Azure VM that's running a supported version of an operating system, and then migrate the workload (Method 1)
                  2. Download and upgrade the VHD of the VM (Method…

                  • Azure Fence agent

Azure Fence agent - Need to reduce the failover time from 10 -15 Minutes to minimum

If you do not want to invest in one additional virtual machine, you can also use the Azure Fence agent. The downside is that a failover can take between 10 to 15 minutes if a resource stop fails or the cluster nodes cannot communicate which each other anymore.

                            • add instructions for uploading local files to new VM

one of the first things a new VM user might need to do is upload files to the new VM. I had to dig deep and succeeded only in setting up RDP (by installing Xrdp on the vm); but that option has two problems:
                              1) this works only with a password (so don't deploy the vm with the default azureuser and key)
                              2) setting RDP to include local files does not give permission the logged on user to access the local files

the workaround for 1 if you setup azureuser with a key is to add a user with a…

                              • Export VM list from the portal with current status

Currently there is no way to export a list of VMs in a subscription to .csv while including the current status of the machine. This would be ideal for tracking large numbers of VMs across many subscriptions.

                                • AAD Integrated login for Linux should copy files from /etc/skel on first login

Upon first login to a Linux VM using an AAD account, the files in /etc/skel, or the location stored in the SKEL variable in /etc/default/useradd, should be copied in the newly-created /home/$newuser directory. This worked correctly for a locally-created account on the same VM.

                                      • Serial console enhancements

                                        * Console pop-up might be of help along with STOP/START.

                                        * Serial log capture should contain stop/restart ( just like Putty session ).

                                        * Scroll would be helpful feature too. Kernel panic freezes the console and usually it would be a bit late by naked eye capturing.

                                        Thanks much

                                        • VMID on Console

While we can use Powershell script to find the unique IP for an virtual machine, I dont see any option to see the same on console. Please add the feature.
